The holy grail of a ship is missing!

If ship horn could be turned off in sound settings and used as a consumable (3x 2 min cooldown) would you like to have a horn in game?

There is no ship horn!! I finally know what Im so much missing, when you launch torps or crash someone - this is what Im missing:)

 

The identity of the ship, especially a steam ship that has its horn connected directly to the engine.

 

Edit: Solutions to problems listed below with this idea : 

1) Spamming the horn - horn used as a consumable

2)Some people HATE the horn - an option in menu to turn all horns off definetly or just horns of other players or eventually to have a sound loudness setting in settings..

it could maybe be a consumable, so id**** dont horn 20 min straight :) and could maybe boost something? 

 

I also belive it would be nessary to have a different horn for each ship.. So it wouldnt look cheap and experienced players could also tell what ship is honking.. Maybe authentic sounds of ship horns would be great?

 

Oh one thing it could do (the horn) it could disrupt the hydro search from cruisers? I play a cruiser though so I myself find this idea stupid:d

Loudness of the used horn could vary on the computer of the honking player and the listening player.. So if I honk my horn, it could rip my ears out but guy next to me could hear it "just right".. I mean WG games arent known for obeying physics, so this for instance would be excusable. Also if many ships honk together, the "mix" could be right on the note but wrong on the volume.. Also players who HATE HONKING COULD TURN IT OFF:)

Yeah, because at the beginning of the Battle of Jutland, Hipper and Co could hear a bagpipe from Hell, a droning sound over the grey waves... It was Admiral Beatty beating on his trumpet, to signal his presence and that the show was about to start, just a shame the Queen Mary and Indefatigable blew a bit to hard, and their internal organs gave way. 

 

Maybe it's excluded for the same reasons it's not on the tanks: abuse. And it has no purpose either ingame, except for a penalty of being more easily detected. It's now borderline unbearable with the voiced commands spamming in every other random battle.

 

no, just no. On the other hand: semaphore, flags and or morse signals (via the lamp) when a command is given, that would give some immersion, without being annoying.

yes i agree, as a consumable.. 2x - with captain skill 3x.. and i guess it wouldnt have to be authentically loud:)

I also miss this from the game, so if someone on my voice chat almost runs into me I start yelling "TOOOOOOOT" on teamspeak. It just isn't the same.

But I think they could learn something from RL. Generally (depending on where the horn is located and how it's pointing and the weather conditions) a horn has a audible reach of about 3 Nautical Miles tops. While it would be possible to hear it further then that if you were on a rowboat or sailing yacht when outside. You wouldn't be able to hear it in a large ship with an enclosed bridge.

So only limit the horn sound to about 3NM to avoid spamming.

well yeah:) but it could start on a countdown so everyone could begin to use it 2x after a few mins:)

Think its a cool idea. Definitely doable in a manner that it's not misused for spamming..

 

And would be time well spent...at least 3000 times better than making a Manga theme or whatever the freak that is supposed to be..

We could also get an option that all ships look like Formula 1 cars and the water is replaced by a go-kart grid..F1 fans will get the same out of it then.. (such a waste of time!)

 

The horn actually belongs to a ship..maybe not in battle but I guess it should be used for warning close by friendlies from torps or imminent collision.

Use the in battle messages as an example of whether a horn would be abused :amazed:..............yep, it's a bad idea. 

 

Not if you have a cool down for it ...or only ships in like 2km range can hear it. You might get horn trolls then following you around to horn..but having only 2 consumables would take that option away...

 

Think it's a simple thing to add that would give the game a little more real life feel..and a little fun for the players to play with..

Why do you think Warthunder has aerobatic smoke?? same way you can horn right before ramming the last enemy for the win..or loss..doesn't matter still epic!!

Think about it...what would make an epic yolo ram from both players even more epic..if they horn while doing so :playing:

 

I am still convinced that this is million times more useful than the current Appregio BS. Plus more fun for the players!

 

A scenario where you ambush a BB behind an island..then launch your torps and push past the island while horning, to make the enemy BB driver jump out of his seat..and his zoom view..am i the only one seeing how this could be amazing????

If I remember correctly, they had airhorns early in the alpha, and they probably removed them for a good reason.

the sound I would like to hear from 25 seconds till 28 seconds. Love that sound. 

 

Awesome..see..now you could even have class specific horns.. :B

 

Just imagine the face of a BB captain who is camping behind an island and watching far away targets through his binoculars...when suddenly this sound appears :P

(in case they implement a range limit, like 3km he would know what that means :child:

Horns will get spammed consistently in game which will make them more annoying than useful. ill pass if im honest.

I suppose you could have a fog horn for when you are in smoke. Or perhaps that whoop whoop eeeek noise when you are about to crunch into an ally.

 

Sorry, but to me, it's a bit of a daft idea.

I could use some commands to warn others about my manuevering to prevent collisions. Sometimes you have a fellow straight ahead steaming towards you and it feels like the two P-40 scene at the beginning of Pearl Harbor. Having an F x command to tell him "I'm turning left/right/steaming backward" could be useful. Such a message should only be heard by ships close to mine (no need to tell to the guy on the other side of the map, and to prevent abuse) and could come with the horn blasts that communicate it IRL: 1 blast, turning right, 2, turning left, 3, steaming backward, 5, wtf are you doing.

The "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot" signal (meaning "I have doubts about your intentions") comes only in a flag bundle or as prize for completing the "Don't give up the game!" challenge, where you should end up top scorer in a row of 10 losing battles.

Hmm..Seems like this could be implemented fairly quick though.

 

Just add 4 different class specific horn sounds (for the beginning), add a range bubble eg. 3km in which other ships can hear it, include a forced cool-down eg. 3min. --> Include it in the next test server :honoring:

Hell..introduce it as a reward or mod you can earn for your ship..so you can use it's horn...or only when you have it "spaded"..so fully researched it and the next ship.

 

You know what..I would even purchase it in the premium shop for like 5 Euros :popcorn:just no bundle pleaaaase :teethhappy:

You know I for instance would love to have specific horns for ships , nations.. Just four sounds wouldnt do for me.. It would be cheap and not respectful.

 

But I agree, NO BUNDLE PLEASE, i cant take it anymore:) I like to just buy a ship I like - you know like in StarCitizen:) No buy the ship you like and get these two you dont want for FREE:) Or whatever:d

this is like really cool but to be hones, I wouldnt be so interested in it as it does not really fit in the history.. or does it??:) i mean if there is a video of a yamato singing wow:)
