Probably a stronger one then DDs, because CVs are huge, but with the added catch that planes cannot take off or land while in a smoke screen. AA would have to be disabled or the cv gets spotted anyway, and they are big and cumbersome enough that manual drops still have a chance of hitting a concealed cv. That would be pretty useless because due to their size and lack of agility most people would hit them anyway...or just wait a sec especially if they cant launch planes....imho adding DF to fighter CVs would solve the problem as strike CVs wouldnt be able to snipe them... You know the saying the victors write the history, right? This means the WW2 pacific accounts was extremely dominated by the US historians until very recent findings, which makes Japanese accounts very valuable to get the full picture of what happened. Please read the book Shattered Sword by Tully & Parshall if you want to know the real history of Midway. All historians worth reading has quoted it as the definitive account of Midway and they summarize all previous works + bring alot of interesting new finds including busting the two myths you are trying to spread above as well as many other myths surrounding the battle. I can tell you clearly haven't read it by the way you are arguing here
