[OILUP] WhiskeyWolf Beta Tester 1,491 posts 11,683 battles Report post #1 Posted November 6, 2015 One question - why? Not only do they look silly in the game but the whole thing reeks of pretentiousness. There is a reason why it's forbidden on the forum to post in caps.

I still don't understand why something that isn't broken has to be changed. The change shall never be the intrinsic value imo, I mean there must be a good reason for the change. And I really can't see how YAMATO is better than Yamato...

I'm rolling dice down here. I think this is why. It makes identification of things marginally easier. I noticed on PT. mind you I didn't expect it to generate a lot of complaints (I was clearly wrong!)

[SCRUB] WolfGewehr Weekend Tester, In AlfaTesters 2,844 posts 11,496 battles Report post #8 Posted November 6, 2015 Personally I still don't like this, caps just looks so silly and cheap imo. Seriously, who had problems with the old one? With simple logic and common sense you could see that there is a pattern; ship name is always at place X and player name at Y. So you can see whether player Yamato is playing with Lexington or player Lexington with Yamato. That caps just shouts the name: KISARAGIII
[OILUP] WhiskeyWolf Beta Tester 1,491 posts 11,683 battles Report post #9 Posted November 6, 2015 Can't they just add USS, HIJMS and so on? So much more accurate historically (apparently they are big on that in WG) and pleasing to the eye.

Odd, I know, but I'll edit in a picture in a second from Breyer as an example. edit: Apparently Breyer uses bold and not caps, but here's Whitley, Destroyers of the Second World War: Edited November 6, 2015 by fnord_disc
[OILUP] WhiskeyWolf Beta Tester 1,491 posts 11,683 battles Report post #20 Posted November 6, 2015 (edited) Here's Lacroix and Wells on "Japaneses Cruisers Of The Pacific War " It's the same for Stille. JAPANESE HEAVY CRUISER WEAPONS From the start, Japanese heavy cruiser designs emphasized firepower, and it was expected that the IJN’s cruisers would out-gun and out-range their foreign contemporaries.Main Battery After a brief flirtation with 7.9in guns, the Japanese decided to upgrade existing ships and build all future ships with 8in guns. The 8in gun mounted in a twin turret was adopted in 1931. It was a respectable weapon, but was consistently plagued with a large salvo dispersion – during gunnery trials in 1933, this was noted to be as much as 528 yards over a range of 21,100 yards. The Japanese attempted to alleviate this problem with the installation of a device in 1938 that produced a very slight delay in the firing of the two guns in a turret, a measure that reduced interference. This served to reduce dispersion to 416 yards at 21,873 yards range for the classes with ten 8in guns. Dispersion problems for the ships with only six guns were consistently less.Japanese Heavy Cruiser Main GunsType Class Max. elevation (degrees) Max. range (yards) Rate of fire (rpm)Type 3 No. 2 Model C Aoba 40 31,606 2–3Type 3 No. 2 Model D Myoko 40 31,606 2–3Type 3 No. 2 Model E Takao (less Maya) 45 32,153 2–3Type 2 No.2 E1 Maya 70* 32,153 2–3Type 3 No. 2 Model Mogami Mogami 45 32,153 2–3Type 3 No. 2 Model E2 Furutaka 45 32,153 2–3Type 3 No.2 Model E3 Tone 45 32,153 2–3* Maximum theoretical elevation for antiaircraft firing only; maximum elevation against surface targets 45 degrees.
