Good non premium low tier ships

I like the Tier 3 German Kolberg, nimble, lots of guns, very rapid fire HE spammer (16rds / min). speed okay.

Its easy for a beginner, use HE as AP is useless, and just a repair button. It does catch fire a lot and the engines are brittle

Best upgrades are main guns 1, Damage control I. Captain skills - basic gunnery, L2 turret rotate and L2 fire extinguisher.  This lot reduces the potential for fire and leaves the repair for engine hits.

I would suggest going for tier V and staying there a while, trying out different classes to see which suits you best. You can later use the experience to fight other classes more effectively.

Ships I would recommend:

- Omaha: one of the best cruisers for its tier, great credit maker

- Kongo: Awesome battleship, perfect for learning how to play BBs, positioning, armor angling, long distance shooting etc.

- Nicholas: still my favorite DD, lots of torp potential, awesome guns for a DD.

A shortlist of ships I liked a lot up to tier 5 would be:

T2: Dresden, Umikaze

T3: St. Louis, Tenryu

T4: Hosho, Izyaslav (though some people seem to hate it)

T5: Gnevny, Kongo, Königsberg (an acquired taste I guess), Omaha

Cheers, M

Which ship (max tier V I'd say) is a good start for beginners, as in user friendly and effective? As of now I want to get better with DDs, and I've found the Tier II IJN DD to be quite good with upgraded torps, but I'd like to know if I should focus on some other branches because I've heard bad things of USN and IJN Tier III DDs.

Thanks :)

- Tier II and IV + V IJN DDs

- Tier IV IJN CA

- Tier III + V USN CA

- Tier V IJN BB

- Tier IV IJN CV

- Tier III SN DD

- Tier V KM CA

What you actually prefer is up to your personal gamestyle, but I'd personally suggest that you should grind up all lines up to Tier V to get a feeling for them and what you like most. Tier V is a very fun Tier and where you can grind a lot of credits while having fun and don't have to worry about the repair bill :)

T2: Umikaze - torps every 17 seconds :D
T3: St Loius - AP on crusiers, HE on everything else

T4: Pheonix - Completely different play style to St Louis.

T2:

Chester.

T3:

Tenryu, it's basicly a big destroyer with better guns, not as sneaky though.

T4:

Kuma, a mix between a destroyer and a cruiser.

Izokaze, sneaky DD with good torps.

Myogi, a battlecruiser with good range, good AA and a good speed when fully upgradet (compared to other BB's around the same tier).

T5:

Omaha, great allround cruiser.

Minekaze, sneaky torp launcher of death.

Kongo, another battlecruiser, and again, good range, good speed, and good AA (fully upgradet ofc).

My list of prefered ships upto tier 5.

It 's my favorritte to, but did you notice that some unfriendly person/department  has nerved her torps on the P.T.-server. Just call it and I will join you with my Pitchfork.

In case you don't want to rebel, I will go back to the clemson.:child:

Low tier ships which are fun and will teach you how to play the game?

II Umikaze. Ok, it won't only teach you how to play, you're doing the enemy a favor as each time you sink one you can tell him to : stop sailing in straight lines ffs!

III St Louis still, only because of 'all them gunz!!11'

IV Kuma and in lesser extent Phoenix, because agile, dps, fire chance and having torps -> many salty BB captains. Also, Isokaze is a gem since it has good torps but also not really terrible guns coupled with typical IJN ninja cammo.

V OPmaha, and KingKongo.

Is the Dresden really that good? From the stats shown it seems a bit meh, but as I've yet a chance to actually boot up my game I might be missing something...

You meet two kinds of people in the St. Louis. Either they are newbies that's been reading about how great she is and you can pretty much sink them while in a rowing boat, or experienced players out seal clubbing :)

For a newbie, I suggest the American cruisers up to tier 6. All of them are good and dependable ships.

My personal favorite for tier 5 and below is Clemson and Kongo, but the ultimate sealclubbers are probably Isokaze and St. Louis.
