[TACHA] triumphgt6 Players 1,870 posts 22,638 battles Report post #1 Posted October 19, 2015 Please can we have a profanity filter in chat. I find the constant offensive language extremely distasteful and detrimental to the whole experience. Whether noob should be in the filter can be debated but sexual references and constant swearing should simply be filtered.

He is 8 and his English is good enough to know some words are not meant to be repeated, and for that I would like the curse filter to come to WoWs. I do want to add that I think WoWs is not even 1/10th as bad as WoT usually is. I mean, in WoT I am not surprised if someone wishes me cancer or wants to have sex with my dead mother. In WoWs, these occasions are either not happening at all or so far in between it's clear some people just got lost and started the wrong game, those will be back in WoT after the battle ends so no worries.
[TACHA] triumphgt6 Players 1,870 posts 22,638 battles Report post #8 Posted October 20, 2015 I agree, I could just ignore chat, but it should be a useful method of tactic planning. That is how I try to use it. But tactics are often swamped by obscenities as someone is killed. I am a moderator on another site and there are no obscenities there - but probably a more grown up audience. I have no problems with expressing emotions but resorting to language you would not use in front of a family member shows a paucity of thinking and indeed vocabulary. Drycon Players 245 posts Report post #9 Posted October 20, 2015 (edited) For all people thinking to reply they never look at chat anyway, thanks for being those "teammates" who never respond to warnings and people who ask for assistance. You are truly the best (in your own little solo world)! Do not tell people to grow up because they don't want to be confronted by verbal abuse. The sole fact they don't want to see it is BECAUSE they have grown up! Edited October 20, 2015 by Drycon

I believe multiple offenses disables their chat Obscenity filters are notoriously difficult, especially with so many languages. Most of us just want one for English, my son doesn't need a German language filter for instance since his German is worse then mine ( obviously ) and he wouldn't understand [edited] or anything else anyway. [ST-EU] Admiral_noodle Supertest Coordinator 6,337 posts 4,395 battles Report post #12 Posted October 20, 2015 Well a minor filter would work. But us Brits would still manage to swear and insult each other. Our language is varied Then there is the obvious letter substituon.

When some of this fellows starts his rants my repsonse is - reported . If he continues I make fun of him without using insults. Most of the times that shut them up. He'll learn what it means by the way people respond to it. Oh, don't underestimate kids. I learned English and many insults from the internet. Nothing can stop this, no matter how hard you try. It's best to just teach how to deal with this instead of trying to guard him from it. Because it is inevitably going to happen. Link-filter or not. I've seen it time and time again. Mhm idk I didn't even check, but Minecraft with Flans mod pack isn't different and he been playing that for ages. Mom has no objections and I also can't think of a reason why he shouldn't play it. Diablo III, that's something I don't think he should be able to play, but 'war' alone? My son is autistic like me, I don't think he has an emotional charge with the subject, it's sooner a rational thought process and that I would like to keep developing if possible. One of the benefits of being not neurotypical is that we don't have the burden of useless emotional baggage. For him the game is about pixel ships, that there are also real ships and that grown ups have used them to fight with each other is just a fact which doesn't really interest him much ( as he can't understand why people need to fight wars ). edit: btw if you look at his development, he's a lot older then his calendar age, just not with EQ ( and like his dad, he likely will never be ). edit2: Btw I started playing cowboys and indians when I was six or so, with my sixshooter and rifle shooting 'enemy' indians ( or killing the invading cowboys ). You think the real history of cowboys and indians is something a six year old should be accustomed with? The times have changed, now it's video games, but even long before kids played 'war' games. No I dont play WoT or other online games so I havent been forced to be neutralized to it. No one should. Yesterday one wished cancer upon my div members mom, to which he replyed: she is dead, thank you for your concern. Tell me why its so hard to have an abusive language filter in the game, the chat should never discuss cancer anyway!

You think the real history of cowboys and indians is something a six year old should be accustomed with? The times have changed, now it's video games, but even long before kids played 'war' games. I think we worry too much about children and putting broad brush age limits on games is a cop out. Parents should be guiding their children and assessing risks and impacts with their child. Not just saying "it's 13, he's 13 so it's ok". Some 13 year olds couldn't cope with this game... There isn't really much in this game I would be worried about an 8 year old playing except the chat. The chat could really upset some people (including adults!) but there isn't much you can do about it. I don't like the idea of switching it off as it is a tool for team play. Toxic chat handled correctly will just allow parents to show children just what people will say in anonymous situations that aren't face to face. @mtm78 I would not in a million years have detected you are not neurotypical. Which has got me thinking a lot about communication when limited to written comms. In person I can usually spot it the instant I meet someone. Interesting. Edit: in another thread the word "com[edited]r" is now edited because of the apparently offensive "p u t e". I have no idea why. So this is the farce of filters... Losing people to cancer or the like in life is part of living, its effects all of us at some stage (yes I've lost a few too), grasping onto that and relating it to kids talking in a game seems a tad over sensitive to me... As my good friend would say... Man the F up!!

Prolly the most. The only teamkill I've done, I didn't even get a comment, not a cancer to my p.enis, nothing about my mother or sister, not even a "idiot" .. just nothing Irritating, because I deserved that comments in that case, it's like a missing part of the results screen.
