Konigsberg, er, wtf?

While the HE strike damage is poor and it really shows against destroyers, the high accuracy and the ballistics compensate for the lowish fire chance. My fire damage is consistently good.

 

What cripples the ship for me is horrible survivability couple with the mixed offensive abilities. Basically the entire ship is a citadel and it has no armor whatsoever.

I experienced her as a fast, agile and small target.

Loads and loads of volleys completely missed me and long range shells are very easy to outmanoeuver (I messed that up).

 

But tonight might be entirely different ofcourse :)

I have no idea how but, with this ship, I got a citadel on a Myogi at around 11 kms, while firing HE. I like it.

Low He damage shows against destroyers? Dont agree at all! This thing is the devil to dds, 2-3 volleys is all that is needed. Its ok against cruisers, dont do as much dmg to bbs. Torpedo loadout is awesome.

...but when enemy starts returning fire, o boy do you go down fast! Quite hard to hit at 10km though, decently agile but shells will hit you. GG. Its definitely a support anti-dd cruiser, with zero AA ability.

Turrets to the rear makes a lot of sense, as you will want to disengage quite often haha.

It is agile and easy to dodge with, but the modules get knocked out all the time and the citadel is huge. Any hits you take cripple you.

I have only played 3 games with Konigsberg so far, but in my first one I detonated 2 enemies: a Clemson at like 10Km with HE :amazed::D and another Konigsberg with AP at shorter range (possibly 5-6Km). It's not an Omaha, but not bad.

edit: I did angle my armor ofcourse most of the time.

 

I've had BB's kill my Kberg in 1 salvo, but was my own fault for geing broadside on, presenting a nice and juicy target for them to shoot at.

I've not got her as apparently 4 kills is not possible for me this week :)

 

I've faced her a lot and I'm sure she is weak. If only I could hit her.

Try sealclubbing in a Kuma or an Omaha. Easy job.

Well, the ships is very strong when it's top tier. I get nice games in it as well when the matchup is right. Pictures related. But your own tier and above is really painful, a lot more painful than in other ships imo. You just cant reliably damage anybody.

 

A couple of good games don't make it a good ship.

 

Exactly.

Pit her against Kumas and Phoenixes, and she will rack up the kills and citadels. Pit her against Furutaka and Omaha and suddenly even great play will only yield acceptable results. And pit her against Clevelands and Aobas and you might as well not even try.

Battleships are the same across all the tiers for her. Get hit and you are down half your health. Get hit against and you are dead, angle or not.

 

It should be noted that at 50mm citadel armour, she is vulnerable to battleship HE. Battleships of all tiers can citadel her with HE. Now that doesn't sound all that troublesome right? BBs should use AP against cruisers... Well, we all know that there are a lot of players using HE in their BBs. That's normally bad, but against K-berg it really isn't all that bad (other than the lower top potential damage of course). I'm pretty certain a Wyoming managed to citadel me with HE in a battle.

 

This is a uniquely weak thing, as even Tenryu and Kuma have 60mm+ (with some areas with less armour, so even they can get citadeled now and then by BB HE, but not commonly), and 60mm makes a ship safe from 356mm HE. 70mm means the ship is safe from all BB HE but Yamato's (it requires a 420mm gun to penetrate). So K-berg is vulnerable to even bad BBs. Also, because the HE can penetrate it doesn't appear that the armour will actually mitigate the HE damage, even if it doesn't hit the citadel. So while the other light cruisers manage to mitigate a bit of the HE, K-berg can't.

 

And agile? Not really. She does have a tighter turning circle than Furutaka, but that's all in that department. She is slower, has worse acceleration, has middle turning circle and the worst rudder shift. She is at best ok in this department.

Got my K-berg at midday today.  Spent the last 2 days thrashing my Jap DD's to get it and only getting 1 or 2 kills..... then got 5 kills in a Fubi, all with torps.... would you credit it???

So far the K-berg seems OK ...so far!  But disappointed with the XP and Credits, mainly because WG failed miserably at explaining FULLY what you get when you win one of these ships.  I have had to trawl the net to try and find out what EXACTLY is going on as far as XP and Credits are concerned, and ALL the answers are coming from uses and NOT WG.  I shouldn't be surprised, after all, since WG are famous (or should that be infamous) for doing exactly that.... lack of communication!


 

On the plus side though.... you do get a slight step up the ladder when the new German Tiers come out in a week.  I've swapped my Tirpitz Capt. to the K-berg (who has more skills) and after the test period I'll swap him back over.

Was chasing a T7 Atlanta with the Kberg yesterday, it felt like throwing paper bolts.

 

No problem with hurting T6 and below though, that went pretty well.

 

Side question aboutthe Kberg, what's with the huge amount of small boats on it?

It has more safety ships than the Kongo! (with probably half as much sailors on board...)

 

It's not all Safety boats as such. Some barges, motorboats and things. Pretty nice wiki article on konigsberg class.

When a ship has awesome boats hanging from davits... you think two things.  1.  Why would the captain want so many taxi's..... OR.....  2.   This ship needs those boats because the designers have no faith in it and if they aren't there... you're swimming up the Elbe to get home :)

Just finished a game in a Minekaze and when I got back to port, I find a T5 German Cruiser sat there. Had a quick game, then got Zero XP or earnings. Whats going on, where did it come from and why zero points, is it some kind of random public test of it?

ofc there's income playing the ship, if you're not a total scrub that is.

when in you port, click the !  in the bottom right of you screen, hover your mouse cursor over the last game you played in it, and see exp/credits you earned.

the post game screen is obviously bugged, since it's not showing you what you've just earned in the game, but nothing to worry about tbh.

Okay, yea, I saw the credits one of the times I played yea, but it seemed so..uniform. It looked more like just some chit they decided was "okay" for every game when normal earnings were taken away.

Just got mine today , well not really mine for good, yeh she feels heavier and slower, not so agile, love the torps, she's acurate, but guns turn slow for a tier 5 cruiser, seems fragile, love the rate of fire. seems more acurate than the omaha. but weaker as far as armor goes. stats will talk sooner or later. thank you for the trial WG

Think your self lucky ,I only got a stupid tier 6 Russian DD Ognevoi which isn't really my type of ship :(

Prolly will work on german line too, but i didnt like this ship at all. Maby just a lucky game, but every HE shot that landed my deck damaged everything there. even with main gun protection each shell damage guns, next 3-5 hits killed both torpedo launchers/steering and engine...repaired and next few shells did almost exactly the same. Its great for ambush while anything else is busy with other ships, but this one ignoring his machine gun abilities feels worse than furutaka/phoenix. Turning circle is pretty huge....played one game, but already didnt like it much(firs of all that HE spam-no aim option)  But AP does wonders to stupid enough Cruisers goin broadsides :)

Agreed and he's a pic from my last game. I decided to do one of my suicide charges so didnt last long BUT I did sink one before they got me and look at the citadels, thats about 20% of all hits!konigcitadel.jpg
