or is it wargaming? hard to tell, since EA is starting to be a good company, whilst WG... quite the opposite. What has happened? WG went on a path where their main concern is how to earn money and not make a good game. the moment any studio does it, you are done. like CoD series, like NFS (later) series. This means that WG will stick to the old proven concept even if it means that the game sucks. but it is stable, the player base will allow itsel to be bent over knee and take it from behind, whilst now and there send some money their way. Im currently at this point too. 

 

Now what would be the concept id like to talk about? Get rid of half the features the way that you are doing them. 

 

HP and RNG well its clear that hp is a make-easy concept. you run out of the you die. didnt it ever occur to you, that this is really bad way o handling survivability of a warship? so that when BB hits cruiser with one AP salvo it vanishes from the game? so it has to be balanced, BB screwed hard over rng penetration and dispersion? one part of the player base is always screwed like lightbulb because the concept does not allow you to make it right. Get rid of it and adapt a concept of Buyoancy and modules! When an AP shell comes trough, it may cause flooding, torpedo will too, HE shell on the hull of weaker target. look at any Naval game that tried to be anything other that arcade moneycow... f.e. Silent Hunter. And modules like engine, guns, secondaries could be damadged, crippeled or even destoryed... but why would a "citadel hit" determine, if you die or not? why would a destroyed engine (unless exploded) make ship stop firing its guns? unless it sinks or theese are destroyed. then you could rid of a RNG generator once for all. and make the game skill dependant and not luck dependant (check DOTA if you want to have a clue how succesful skill based game works. number of RNG effects in game is practicaly down to crits)

 

Trust your player with complex information and complex features. We are not six, we can handle it. Shell penetration table for armour thickness and angles (i hope you have those, that you are not only RNGing with some probability). trust with detailed armor layout, modules placement, with all the data that comes into equation. trust them with adding power, not speed, trust them with pre planned routes for dodging. Trust eu player base with information you are filtering to RU community.

 

Economy is tough here and actualy i dont mind that much. this is part of the game you can adjust to your liking. ofc someone would call it blackmail or pay not to grind to the power of n... but as far as you dont detter players, WE. 

 

Add something interesting to game you made. As i told earlier i know that now you want to reclaim the EA title you practicaly cant, but look at WoW (world of warcraft) or HotS (both by blizzard). multiplayer games where the authors didnt fear new concepts. new types of objectives other that kill or bring flag or destroy ancient. In wows there could be tons of it. coastal guns, land based AI controlled airfields, protect the convoy, do inland bombardement.. you name it. 

 

now you have a game that due to stay in your comfort zone compromises all. reminds me of a quote of my favorite videogame villain "have i ever told you the definiton of insanity? doing things the same f****** think over and over again and expection s*** to change". You add new ships, new lines all the time. maybe even map here and there. you make x2 first battle xp "events" small pathces that fix technical, not game issues. took you three months to fix a MM (which now works fine for all i care). but you dont adress the problems that are there. your comunication with players is poor. balancing the game with things like different firing arcs to weaken cleveland or rng and lower pen to weaken bbs or i dont even know all. You didnt think that at any point... [added poll] its better to know that ship beat you because it was stronger and there was little you could do because your opponent was also smart, that because you had to ballance the game in wrong tracks? 

 

Sorry for long post, sorry for bad english. this is a cry for help, because i actually want to like the game and currently i cannot. as a doctorate student i dont exactly have time to apply for a job in WG and try to change things from the inside.

Today they published interview with the development director of WoWs Danila Volkov. Lesta Studio is sometimes inviting streamers and reporters in their HQ in St. Petersburg showing them what are they working on for the future, but they can't broadcast it right away as it's under NDA and only WG can say when it's the time. So today this one was published (but cutted out as some stuff is still udner NDA).

 

- next big patch will bring individual missions. They will be harder (then the current "daily" ones), some of them even chain missions.

- division members will be spawned closer to each other Soon™

- the high tier maps will change. They will add 2 new ones Soon™ and rework Islands of Ice and Two Brothers + some tweaks to North. They will also make another "winter North" coppy - half night winter with polar Lights, but the original map North will stay as it's very popular.

- the 2 domination caps instead of standart battles was good decision and the amount of draws dropped + it's popular. In one of the next patches they will rework encounter. There will be 3 "ring" bases. You start getting points from the outer ring base and it's speeded up when you cap the middle and the center one. If your team hold the center one while the enemy the rest only your team will be getting points (from the central base only ofc). This will bring the players closer to the center (the action) but in a BB you won't be forced to enter the central cap under focus in order to contribute - that's DDs job. Going for the edge of the map will be pointless as the action will be in the middle.

- the map border will be reworked again in the next big patch. Ships will still be able to drift, but they will lose most of their speed when hitting the border and will also turn slower. Devs hope that will be enough. If that doesn't help they will be done with the "soft" solutions and will already consider the "hard" ones like autopilot taking control or solid border.

- they consider to expand the ranked battles in 3 leagues - tier 5-6 / 6-7 / 7-8. They consider season signal flags as reward that will be permanent (won't be used after a single battle as the rest). The requirement to win them will be to get past the "unlosable" ranks (where a loss won't take away your rank) and those "unlosable" ranks will be increased compared to the test season now. Also different signal flags for different ranks.

- the solution with the depot is planned for 0.5.2. All modules will be ship specific only (won't be any modules avalible for 2 or more ships like CA torps avalible for DD) and after selling the ship absolutely all modules will be sold. When the patch goes live all the moduls currently in the invisible depot (the players stored already) will be sold and the players will get their credits back. This way they won't have to make UI for something 90% of the players use once in 3 months and everyone will be getting his credits back as that's the main problem now,

- no plans for "accelerated" captain training in the short-term plans (they are not working on it yet) but it's possible in the future with signal flags for example and for some premium ships.

- the high tiers meta is with long ranges but small maps. When reworking the maps (as said in the beginning) they will most likely try to concept of making the maps interactive. There will be points with coastal batteries, AA points, airports which players can cap and use them as assets for their team. Pretty much add some small form of PvE to the normal battles to make it more interesting.

- the tier X cruisers added in the game files (like Buffalo) will be some reward ships, but it's too early yet and no concrete plans.

- they try to make the team battles this year. Player can be in few different teams (that's not clans) and there will be leagues and ratings like in the ranked battles. Of course there will be rewards for the top teams and they plan to make "best of the best" tournament after each season inviting the top teams from that season with very interesting rewards.

- you won't have to make full team of 7 player to play team battles, you can enter with 4 friends for example and the MM will add the missing 3 from solo players (mercenaries) who also want to play those team battles, but don't have team or it's not online. That will be rare on the high leagues ofc.

- they are working/reworking the perks and ship upgrades. Some of them will be revised this year to make them attractive (the acquisition range module for example I guess).

- they won't ban mods, but the game client is getting more and more locked for modding. They keep close contact with the modders and will give them "the magical key" to add their mod under strict supervision (mod tested and approved by WG).

- it's possible they will add the option for each player to hide his personal random only stats from the rest.

"EA" and "good company" are words that can't stay in the same sentence...

However:

 

 

HP and RNG: I see that you are new, but taking away HP will just make people complain more....if you say that a destroyed citadel can't stop a warship, why would a destroyed AA gun?

Imagine the complaints: "omfg I got killed because my last module was an AA gun, omfg this is so unrealistic ffs WG sux".

In Alpha we had buyoancy levels, just like a secondary hp bar, and you could get destroyed by running out of normal hp or buoyancy hp; guess what? people complained, and WG listened and removed it. Also, historically, citadel were critical to ships, in fact they were super-protected.


 

Trust: on this, I mostly agree with you, but pre-planned routes for dodging are stupid.


 

Economy: in WoWs is just fine....want to try a "blackmail"? go try WoWp....


 

Add Something: many of the thing you ask for, are coming soon or later, they answered about it in a Q&A. There are a few topics about "news from developers" here in this forum section.

EA tries. that counts :) lets not call them out, what if the change of director does the trick? 

 

to the modules you mentioned: i dont think that AA gun could kill you :) the HP would be removed. if you lost module, you dont have it. period. it will not sink you. if you have ship with no engine and no guns and you still stayed afloat :D thats bad luck and it wont happen often. maybe scuttle feature? dont know :) and also this will implement other tactitcs. maybe strip a BB o secondaries before attempt to come in for torp kill? maybe damage ships AA capabilities by dive bombers before trying to torp it from air? dont know, players wil come up with things. but as things currently are, for example crossing the T [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crossing_the_T] has become as disadvantage to the one who crossed you (opposite of real life). and F.E musashi took 20 torps before sinking, but uss indianapolis took two.

I don't really think there's a contest between EA and anything, really. Well, maybe Ubisoft in recent 5-10 years or Activision, but even those can't come close. I mean, if you kill 123 people and then save one baby from a river, you aren't exactly on a positive zero or anything:D That said, the notion about "EA tries" and "EA is getting better", well, I'm sorry but I can't see that.

Now, WG is maybe POTENTIALLY worse, but we'll have to wait a lot more to see if those levels are attainable by mere non-EA mortal companies, such as WG. I mean, you don't even need to go and see EA as a whole, take any game, any franchise and see the laziness, the rehashing, the unstable products, the marketing, the constant fight to render the predecessor in the franchise die out completely in order for the new, same game to be bought over and over again. And there were/are MANY, MANY, MANY of those. I mean there was, how much, 15-20 fifas? That's a lot. And no, they didn't "become like that at one point", so we could say "well, in the case of fifa, let's say they changed the franchise to the worse in 2000 or something", virtually every single one of them bears the same cross of EA-patent approach:)

 

So, in relative terms, WG and EA? I can't even look at it without getting confused is it a real question:) A deaf, slow, gentle giant who teases with slow implementation and non-communication and stupid bundles and underwhelming specials... that's still in the realm of "a corporation". EA is from a parallel universe. WG more resembles what Blizzard has become under the Acti (mainly talking about customer communication and regarding mutual respect and trust), but that's about as far as it goes. And that's angel compared to EA.

EA wasn't alwaya like that, though, but if we are talking about that, that was a long time a go, I don't think the madden from '89 would count as "EA" as we know it, or "skate or die!", which are good games, made with love and passion:)

I offten get hit by only 1 shell for 90% of my hp on Cleverland....there is no even scarr on my ship....yet my health is disapeared...   its not fun at all...lame even.

 

Sitiation: I dodging them like monkeys,   then booom only 1 shell hits me from entire salvo and 10% hp.... dont tell me its citatel.....I dont care....I hate those mechanic which try to make noob equal and allowing them to do instant gibs.  Citadel hits ok, but tone them down ALOT !

That's your problem, it's not about dodging like crazy, it's about being wary of the position of enemy BBs, knowing where their shells may come and not presenting your side to then to prevent massive damage. As a cruiser it is crucial for your survival to know if any of the enemy BBs  are aiming at you and knowing if they are reloading or not. it's key because it will enable you to actually show your broadside to change directions if needed. Use islands as cover for when you have to manouver and get outside of tight situations too.

 

About you getting hit for 90% of your health with one shell, currently the biggest damage shell in the game is Yamato's AP: 14k damage so no, you are getting hit and citadeled by multiple shells.

no its the fact cleveland is explosive barrel

 

and before you cry even further 1 lame HE shell from cleveland 6" fire hoses that hits the edge of the flag on t7 BB slowly chews away 1/3 of the health...

Well, I am a main BB player and when you write like that you're right. BUT

 

1. I can guess that you're main complaint is vs a battleship

2. I can shoot once at 30 sec, you once at 5, jap once at 15 (they have torps & low profile, so on)

3. You can dodge very easily every single shot if you pay attention vs 1 battleship. Situation gets more hairy when 3 BBs are shooting at you. Don't get in front, patience. BBs job is to get in front not yours.

YES, I was in front for my team and in 50% of the cases they supported me (DD in front to scout for torps so I can dodge, got flanked by 2x Cruisers for protection but, I was tanking).

4. You can Citadel me under 5km at my front turrets

5. My main job is to kill you. Your job is to kill DD & stuff. I cannot kill a DD as good as you, it's rock pepper scissor. Know your job.

 

95% of my deaths have been because of (speaking from experience - over 15km - RNG Jesus, maybe hit, maybe not. Under 12km - you're dead if I shoot at you, doesn't matter in what you are)

A) me - played poorly or got outplayed

B) team - we simply din't synchronized (Hello sniping BBs and Cruisers who don't provide AA)

Oh yeah and I believe it's a desync issue with the server. Got hits without animation in my BB & DD (rudder stuck). It pisses me off when I don't see the shot, but it is very rare.

Since you like EA so much, how about playing ME3 or the latest Dragon Age Inquisition multiplayer and see how the RNG treats you? Alternatively, play BF4 and see how many damn packs you need for a SPECIFIC camo, same as ME3 and DA:I.

 

Yes, your beloved EA has raised gambling to the rank of game mechanic. This includes their dying MMO too, btw.

So my big number damage will get nerfed, but at least I'm going to hit... far more often.  It evens out.

 

 

 

Do you want the whole problem and hate on CVs also on BBs?

you guys arent exactly listening. i think i proposed a viable solution to this dmg problem. You see all the complaints because its 90%HP, lot of dmg, little dmg and so on, so on. But that would disappear with throwin HP concept overboard. no need for further balancing of this kind. If cruiser gets hit hard by AP bb, it might cripple him, it might take few of modules out, it might sink him slowly, but it will not go like "citadel x3" and "devastateting strike"

 

To the EA... they prologued release times of their games in order for those to be better ergo they try to become better company. And i was giving more the Blizzard as company to take inspiration from. or Valve.

Actually none of those piss me off... What really pisses me off, is my own stupidity... when I went and showed broadside of my Cruiser like a moron, when I offered the citadel hits for that BB, who was in 10km range... and oneshotted me... I shout to myself "Why did I offer my side, when I saw him just waiting for me turn, so that he could take that shot... and I tried to turn around even though I knew it was going to happen!?!?!!"

Throw the HP concept overboard that is rewarding good players who know how and when to use AP and let's spam moar HE for the module damage, because reasons....

Lose RNG and citadels and replace with reliable damage --> boring boring game.

 

For me those awesome strikes are half the fun of the game. So I don't whine when I'm on the receiving end.

 

Play well and you can reduce the chance of being on the receiving end and increase your chances of being the one doing the devastating strike.

 

It's all about managing risk. Like life.

EA does not wait to release products in order to get them better, long are the days where quality was top of their list - i know this from personal experience.

 

Valve is way past its prime, its turned into the second EA. - 

 

Blizzard is a business, but like it or not they are the more or less balanced option in todays theatre of Software houses.

You could throw HP away, at least as part of the GUI, but you'd still need some sort of system allowing the game to keep track of the overall health of the ship. It's not just about taking out modules, it's also about chipping away at the overall health of the ship in general.

 

A penetrating shot in the magazine should take your ship out immediately in most cases. And from a game play point of view, there's very little difference between telling that player that he took a hit in the magazine and suffered x amount of damage, causing him to sink, and telling him that he took a hit in the magazine and blew up. It would still be a one-hit-kill, regardless of how you do it. So you'd still get complains.
