The question is related to the ships which will be in game or are in game.

Now that the polls were reduced from two to one, yes, Japan.

Edit failure I will add specific ships now

I could argue at which IJN cruiser is best the looking from the bunch, but basically this guy knows what he's talking about.

I dont think I can really say I prefer one nation over another as, just like my taste in music, I prefer individual presentations to everything given.  I like ships which look like ships, so for me I go for the little T1's and the post T4 Battleships as they suit my styling tastes.  The multi funnel cruisers and destroyers really do not do anything for me at all.

Aoba to me. Close second would be Yubari, Yamato and Amagi. There's just something about those combined funnels that really gets to me!

No Richelieu? :(

Well, I guess I like Tirpitz the most from the list. Her nicely curved yet firmly exacting lines make her look very nice to me. And yes I just said some paradoxical crap. It came from the heart though :hiding:

Nation-wise - japan, very slick ships. I simply dislike the "fat" or robust designs (wyoming for example). That said, almost every japanese ship, regardless of class and built has that "leanness" to it, even the big slow ones.

I even like pagoda masts, I don't know why, as they look like vertical favelas or something:)

But japanese cruisers in particular are top tier regarding looks. Everything is in its place and aesthetically pleasing.

With the possibility of only one choice, I went for the Atago. Majority of japanese cruisers would go after the atago as they are similarly appealing. But if I disregard them, I would maybe put fusou or kongou next, because those masts don't give a f_ck:)

Clearly I appreciate the "michael keaton's batmobile" ships, but at the same time, I have a place in my heart for the "christian bale's batmobile" ships. In that category, I would select Montana, as, even though quite "fat", it has that "f-117 modern charm" - much like the new batmobile, which can't exactly be called "pretty", but it could be appealing in a different sense. Yamato, although I like the ship per se more, loses in this comparison for me.

And lastly, I differentiate the third category of "steamboat willie" type of old boats, where I would vote for st.louis or diana or something like that.

Least appealing for me are the US cruisers.

Well, for what's it worth, I know exactly what you mean by that description:)

But for me, that's precisely what I most often dislike, for my taste, ships like that come off as too eclectic or even dadaistic (if we would like to hold wine glasses and try to look smart while talking:D ). For the same reason, even though it breaks my heart, I must put Yamato low on my list, for example.

How can you say Japanese ships are the best looking?
Flat planks with giant worts on them is NOT aesthetically pleasing in my book, but to each his own I guess... Ohh and don't even get me started on the condom called Mutsuki.

Personally I like the slick looks of the later US destroyers (Fletcher and Benson, Gearing looks clunky with those massive turrets) as well as the elongated forecastle of the Iowa and Des Moines classes.

You answered your own question, it seems:)

That aside, in order to understand why something is appealing to someone else, you have to broaden the look on things. For example, I find benson very unappealing, it's kinda front heavy, not harmonious and it's shape is interrupted in the middle - BUT, I can see how and why you find the benson attractive, I can sit in that place and see what you mean and why you like the ship.

So, one man's "flat plank with giant warts", another man's

For the italians you should add the Vittorio Veneto class battleships and the Zara class heavy cruisers.

Zao is simply gorgeous, even though most of IJN ships have beautiful hulls and with curvy lines, only the Zao looks as beautiful while looking very menacing at the same time, those triple turrets, and wide front deck just do something for me
