That wierd/funny lucky shot

So yesterday for the fourth time (for me), i got that odd lucky shot. I was rowing along in my Fuso tossing shells at a stubborn cruiser, i fired a broadside to get him off my back.

And as i shifted view to manouver, i suddenly hear i have sunk an enemy destroyer. Apparently a destroyer had received that broadside instead of me missing the cruiser, i must admit to thinking i must have mistaken a cruiser for a destroyer.

Another battle and i am enjoying my Fruitcake, a cruiser is giving chase so i fire some torps to make him turn. Suddenly a destroyer crosses my enemy cruisers path and is the recipient of some nice torps, i bet he was just as suprised as i was.

So dear community do you have some similar lucky shots?

More received than done, but yeah, it happens. Tho not that spectacular as yours.

One of the recent. Been in Kongo, top HP (54100) as game just started and people are getting into position. Noticed single TB coming my way. Start maneuvering for narrow profile. TB drops 5 fishes, I'll fit between 4th and 5th...naah, 5th will hit. No big deal as one torpedo isn't a thre...

Your ship has been destroyed.

And other side - some map with multiple islands to hide behind. Me sailing early Kongo. Nothing interesting in sigths. Then, at max range - single CA very close to an island. No time to aim properly, add massive spread = no chance. But what the heck, at least I'll put some stress on him. Fire. And forget as 90% of cases it's a miss.

10 sec later: citadel x2, enemy cruiser destroyed.

I also had a few of these moments but this is the most remarkable:

I was sailing my Langley on Fault Line, when right at the beginning a Clemson decided to go straight though the middle of map. Of course my team has split left and right and noone cared for him when he showed up in our spawn. So i tried to run away (at 15 knots, yay) turning and trying to keep my stern towards him but he kept closing in and i already accepted it will be a short match for me since he managed to dodge my torpedo bombers. Eventually he even came into range of my secondaries (yes, Langley has 4 single 127 mm guns with 3.5 km range) which opened fire when suddenly i hear "We sunk an enemy destroyer!" and i couldnt hold my laughing back. So RNG decided to detonate his magazine with the first hit.

I know this is more about RNG then odd luck but i decided to share it nontheless.

I'v had 2, one in the new York, a south Carolina was heading towards me, i fired one salvo aiming in front of him all i could see,  one shell hit the magazine and detonated him.

in the ranger, a t6 ijn DD got past the team, killed the other cv than came for me,  bombers where on the way back, so didn't have them thought sod it ill try and ram him, well i missed the ram but he all so missed the trops,  they scratched the paint work, he than missed the next 2 salvo's, my DB went and magazined him ,  even he was laughing at it

I remember one when I was sailin with the Hotel. As a foreword I had traded shots with Ibuki, who lost about half of his healt. CA understood the power of Hotel servants and decided to not show broadside anymore and retreat, hoping to save the hammered ship. That pesky CA, sadly he got away I thought.

Situation few minutes after that from my point of view: Tirpitz heading from left to right (to east) at horizon about +-18km away. At same distance there is also the same Ibuki with about 15.000hp left, heading straight away from me. As the Ibuki vanishes, I take a broadside on Tirpitz. After waiting I see one citadel + normal hit and the Ibuki is gone . There was great distance between Tirpitz and Ibuki, so I assume that Ibuki turned towards Tirpitz and they met just at point I thought Tirpitz would be when my shots land...

That Ibuki saved their Tirpitz with very honorabru action :P

My most surprising shots were when I was playing with carrier. 30 seconds into the battle, I was being citadel hit from 22km. Lost half my health in one shot.... and the most weird part is that 10 minutes later I was being hit again, while not being spotted, and died from that second shot. I was like "wth?" well behind my allies and saw all enemies spotted and no one was at range to spot me... of course that was my daily 3x game, which ended too soon. 2 lucky shots in one game? Really made me think all kinds of conspiracy theories...

That would be a rather poor little Amagi at a little over 23 km with my Tirpitz about 2 minutes into the battle... He vanished about 5 seconds before I fired, leaving me believing that my salvo would plunge into the sea somewhere. I was rather surprised to recieve a single hit confirmation about 15 seconds later... I was even more surprised when I realized that red icon that appeared just below it.

Blind shot normal hit magazine detonation for 66k HP at ~24km... :amazed:

Yesterday in my Fuso I tried to shot a New York that was more than 20 km away.

I missed him ... but the unspotted Furutaka closed to him gave me a nice citadelle hit !!

In a Ranked game I had 3 CA's closing in on my Nagato while only showing their fronts with a somewhat arrogant fashion, two Cleveland and an Adobe. Normally three Cruisers vs 1 Battleship constitutes Bullying as it is overkill. At 10 KM's I have 60% HP left and the Adobe turns it's side to torp me. He blows up due to two citadel hits.

This makes one of the other Cleveland falter and it too turns, but this time to get away (or put more guns on me), he also goes up due to a citadel.

Last Cleveland stops firing for a moment and freezes, like a thug being caught in the act of mugging a victim. After a few seconds decides that turning the side to run is properly a bad idea and proceeds to try and ram me, unfortunately for him he enters my secondaries range and turns to scrap metal before our ships connect.

1 minute later a DD sneaks up and fires a spread of torps almost point blank... Was a good game :)

I shot a BB volley on a Cruiser 20km away obscured by islands, shells sailed right between two island peaks and were perfectly timed so the cruiser caught the salvo in the broadside, bam citadel hit :D

Even with elevated view I could hardly see the ship, shells must have appeared out of nowhere for him.

I had two fun moments:

1) In my Tirpitz is was (being an idiot) at the front of our assault (I there were a few cruisers there but they all turned tail only our DD was heping me), had 3 cruisers shooting at me (missing a lot luckily) and a NC on a distance of 10 km, they go me down to 30k hp. So I wait that the NC fires so I can get my [edited]around and start to to make some distance between us. He fires and does minimal damage I start to turn and fire of my full broad side at him and score 4 citadels and leave him on 12k hp.

After that I managed to somehow survive as my hp got reduced to 10k hp and I continue to keep him occupied so that my team wins the match.

2) Was in my Fuso on the Strait map. We make contact with the enemy fleet on our side and I see a Phoenix 20 km away going broad side to me towards the middle. I quickly aim and fire a salvo, Salvo has a really tight spread and as I am looking at it I reallyize that I took a bad shot and most likely wasted an epic spread shot, until the Phoenix decides to avoid the slavo by turning towards the incoming rounds, but insted just puts himself right under them. He suffers 2 citadels and sinks.

Are you sure you were in a Tirpitz and shooting an Amagi, and not in your Bismarck and shooting a Hood?

I had a nice shot on a DD, my secondary blew him up when I was in my Yamato vs a t8 or t9 DD (do not remember which of the 4 it was, there were 2 more close to me thanks to our Cruisers hunting cap points instead of sticking with the BBs :)

Positive since the Hood isn't yet in game... also Bismarck sank Hood from a lot closer than 24 km... more like 14 km which is a perfectly reasonable distance to score a citadel hit. :P

went down to drive my Erie ... to relax after a terrifying 5 minutes of playing "dodgy dodgy phoenix cause I'm surrounded by 3 annoyed BB's".

got into a fun fight with 3 hashidate with all of us using islands for cover.

just as one disappeared, I shot sequentially in his vague direction but expected it to hit the island as he was out of line of sight.

after sinking the other 2 I wondered what happened to the first hashidate as he never reappeared.

on replay the rounds shot vaguely cleared the island with the final round citadelling the shoite out of the poor sod.

got my first high calibre medal probably on the back of the boost from this hit.

today in my Nagato, i saw This full health Aoba was broadsiding me and missing, when he turned away and was about 16KM i fired a full salvo at him, scoring four hits and leaving him with only 7HP left, he was finished off by a DD soon after.

the funniest opening shot in a while, the poor bastard should know not to broadside so eagerly

Have had couple times detected enemy DDs cross paths with torps meant for some cruiser or BB and eat one.

Well, at least their "sacrifice" possibly alerted intended target to torps because intended targets avoided them.

And once launched torps against Cleveland going into cap, only to see him change direction ten seconds later.

So was rather surprised to get a kill half minute later... Enemy Minekaze homing into those torps.

Which was really lucky because without that DD to stealth cap I was easily able to keep resetting Cleveland with guns until own team capped enemy base.

Couple days ago in match launched torps in Big Race's "DD alley" to that furthermost corner just in case enemy DD going there played dumb.

Some time later I got one torp hit and kill... Furrytaco blowing up from magazine detonation.

And during closed beta after getting Fletcher in North map I once had two nearby IJN DDs on other side of choke point between islands.

They popped up their smokes clearly wanting to stay in ambush position.

Without better target coming I launched all torps into that smoke and after torps disappearing into smoke soon got one DD and couple seconds later other for Double Strike.

Also during closed beta and USN cruiser grind either in New Orleans or Baltimore enemy had been beaten badly with only DD left which was observed 16km away.

I decided to give it "what the heck" salvo and was waiting for also last (rear) turret to turn.

Few seconds before availability of full broadside that DD started smoke machine because taking beating from closer ships.

Enemy DD disappeared from sight second before I fired and not expecting much I zoomed out to look enemy CV's still flying planes getting shot down.

Ten seconds later I saw shells falling into smoke and suddenly got kill.

Four shells out of nine hitting... something you would hope from 10km range.

Had some lucky torp kill like described above as well.

And while I'd love to attribute it to superior skill, I guess this one belongs also into this thread:

Doesn't qualify for the competition, but worth to show-off anyway :P

7 citadels in one salvo, Myoko against Aoba at 12.9km:

Just had really juicy one.

After previous target having been killed by concentrated fire from nearby team members I of course started looking another target.

I noticed almost full hp Atlanta just inside range of my DD (Gremy) guns and after getting all (cruiser slow turning) guns turned started firing broadsides.

After sending second salvo on its way I noticed first salvo wasn't exactly spot on and falling behind ship's center and moved aim forward while seeing first salvo falling near Atlanta's rearmost turret.

And then that Atlanta went kaboom with Devastating Strike. :P

Detailed report actually showed not a single direct contacting hit!

I guess that blessed by RNGesus shell fell very tightly short detonating in water next to ship's side by magazine.

This happened a while ago, I was in my destroyer. Had a really bad losing streak that day and figured I'd just [edited]around with my destroyer for a match before I call it a day.

It was that map with a whole lot of islands scattered throughout. As I race for Point A I blind fire some torpedoes through a narrow gap between two islands, not really expecting to hit anything. A few moments later: "You have sunk an enemy destroyer!" Cue a looooot of angry faces from the player on the other team.

A recent match I was in my New York and I fired at some half-HP cruiser at near max range. Not expecting to hit anything but figured I'd at least get the cruiser to turn back, I was a few moments later greeted with the warship destroyed sound. Happy days. :)

And something that happens a bit too often for my liking: Me in my Murmansk. Trucking along, nice and slow when suddenly a wild battleship appears. It uses Armor Piercing rounds. It's super effective! You've been sunk. One-shot. :|

I remember, one day, in my Fubuki, i oneshot a yamato, with a single torp hit... from the front!

Yeas, he turned to avoid the spread, but just take one exactly at the tip of the ship, thinking "nah, one torp... Pffffff...."

I was as surprised as him.

Another one, last week i was in my shimakaze, two brothers map, i go right, and encounter some enemy DD. He hides immediately in smoke, i don't see him, but make a blind shot since i'm detected anyway... "Critical strike" So a DD oneshot another one. With his guns...

2x a detonation, a devastating strike and a double strike in a single battle with the St.Louis.

I was slugging along towards the center cap in domination, with I was pincered by two Wickes at 1.5km. I sailed just straight, and fired my port guns, eliminating the low-health Wickes in a single salvo (he needed only 3 shells, the detonation was an "add insult to injury"), then I threw the St.Louis in reverse and shot the full-health other Wickes at starbord, which resulted in a detonation. All of it was over in 8 seconds, and by throwing my ship in reverse, I managed to avoid all the torpedoes, and took no damage at all from that engagement.

This is why situational awareness skill is soooo important. As soon as I'm detected  I start wildly steering. Still, if it's a Fuso I'm probably going to die anyway... I did that to someone else. Phoenix appears for a few seconds on two brothers. I fire speculatively with Fuso and it disappears of course. Maximum range. Probably not going to do anything... Some seconds later boom - 3 citadels devastating strike and first blood. I had to apologise...
