Mahakmar Alpha Tester 70 posts 2,831 battles Report post #101 Posted October 23, 2015 (edited) Tier 1-3 ok spamming shots like mad , but in general everyone playing these first 3 they dont indicate how further up is unless you get into higher tier fights Tier 4 then i lost the will to play german , so used free exp to get into tier 5 this karlsruhe is pretty much a ship that should never been in Tier 5 Køningsberg glass cannon , He shots are bit weak but in general once you get used to guns and play bit more careful and as a escort aux ship you will kill alot of DD-Cruisers with citadell hits and due to its high rate of fire it first of the german cruiser i liked , just dont go charging and exposing sides and this ship will reward you Tier 6 Nurnberg same type of ship as kønigsberg higher structure but i play it as i did my tier 5 and it performs good, main targets beeing DD-cruisers ( as it will rip apart most if you are a good aimer) Both tier 5-6 have good rate of fire making them good to take out fast moving targets-cruisers , good turning speed on turrets ,kønigsberg prone to alot of rudder-engine fails, both are prone to instant death if you expose your broadside to BB/Fast shooting cruisers Tier 7 Yorck 1 battle and already seeing problems :p turn rate rudder slooow, turn rate turrets = yeah this is horrid ,equally slow as my battleship :p so this need to be adressed , now 130.000 exp till admiral hipper God darn it , posted this in wrong post lol , sorry Edited October 23, 2015 by Mahakmar
MrFingers Beta Tester, Players, In AlfaTesters 3,242 posts Report post #102 Posted November 17, 2015 After reading the initial feedback of the German cruisers, I decided to wait it out a bit, and see if stuff got better... Then I got bored of grinding out the Cleveland, so I said: "what the heck, here goes nothing", and I grinded the German line.Hermelin: Adequate Tier I, sure looks good, but I find it prestation-wise nothing extraordinary. Had enough XP in one battle to reach Tier II.Dresden: Dude, this $h1T is fun, no matter how you slice it. It can dominate a Tier II battle, and can stand its own in a Tier III, and in the hands of a capable captain even Tier IV.Kolberg: and here it starts to go wrong. This is just a Dresden they stretched a bit, while it has an insane ROF, it doesn't really matter if the only thing you fire are matchsticks or peas. Last battle I was in a slugfest with a B-hull Omaha (Tier V), knifefighting at 2km ranges. I fired 70 AP shells into it all in the flat side of the hull, for a total damage of 13k (I sunk him, he left me burning with a knocked out engine & steering). No citadels, no HE-fires. The Kolberg is adequate in Tier III, but struggles in Tier IV, and is a joke in Tier V (no range, no DPM, no protection... A juice XP-pinata... for the enemy). It would help if she had the torpedoes she historically had.Karlsruin: I have the free XP at the ready.HE is a joke, AP is... well, the Dresden and Hermelin AP can get stuff done, the Kolberg... not that much. But that shell arc. Yes, I know the Germans invented the ballistic missile with the V2, but there's no need to give the shells a trajectory that passes them through the freezing cold of the stratosphere... A well deserved +1 for the removal of the Kolberg, the Karlsruin as Tier III, but since the Emden is also only equiped with 10 105mm guns, I'd say: use the SMS Pillau or SMS Wiesbaden (A Karlsruhe, but with 152mm guns) or the SMS Scharnhorst (A Tier IV Yorck-alike ship with 8 21cm guns)

And in the middle of WWII she had those gun upgraded to more modern 150mm guns. Hence she could have a nice gun upgrade that would make her gunplay more fun. MrFingers Beta Tester, Players, In AlfaTesters 3,242 posts Report post #105 Posted November 17, 2015 I just read that as well. Still, that means that stock she's stuck with the totally non-competitive 105mm guns, which is... totally sub-par.Meanwhile... Words cannot describe how encouraging this sight is... Needless to say, there wasn't much I could do in that battle (which we lost btw). 0 kills, 137 hits (97 in them in a fully upgraded Kongo) for the grand total of 24k damage... There are two different Emdens (there are even more). The Emden with 105mm guns is a sistership to the tier 2 Dresden, and was sunk at the beginning of WWI, after a successful career as a corsair ship. The Emden we're talking to substitute the Karlsruhe is a 1925 ship armed with 150mm guns. Edited November 18, 2015 by JapLance

psl_58 Players 211 posts Report post #112 Posted November 18, 2015 (edited) As an aside the Emden was supposed to be built with 4 twin 6" turrets but the group overseeing the ToV restrictions overruled them and they were forced to utilise WW-I warehoused 6"SKL 45 guns. That would have made them one of the first light cruisers armed with turrets. In some respects the Emden was superior to the Koingsberg line of cruisers -except their triple turrets . The Emden had an endurance of 5300 nm @ 18 knots when the K & L class could only manage ~ 3500nm @ 18knots...and even that had to be cut in half due to the structural strain of putting so much firepower on such a small hull. The belt protection was 50mm belt backed up by 40mm slopes which should have offered about 4" armor vs 6" shells...making it better than the K/L class. The Emden with 4 twin 6" turrets and transom stern should have been able to manage 31-32 knots; especially with a decent hp boost in the turbines. Such a light cruiser would have made a much better capital ship escort than the K/L class did. Edited November 18, 2015 by psl_58
