Nagato is a piece of crap for me after few games. I have the 2-nd upgrade , more health and the new AP rounds but what a letdown. The main guns are a piece of crap. Did they nerf this ship ?

Its fuckind blind even on close range 10km the shells are flying where they want.

And then the penetration is either worse than the fusso guns or its overpenetrating. Hitting the citadell is pure luck as the shells newer fly where u aim , either under the line or over. Many times u just hit the minimum AP value , and with 8 guns and 1.9 ROF.

Other BB-s even t6-t5 can easyly citadel me if i show my side , but if they show the side somehow the AP rounds doesnt want to land citadels and many times it just hits 2k ap dmg.(than sometimes u take 22k dmg with a single turret salvo) If these guns remain in t8 t9 with current hidden stats i can stop at nagato. I can as well play a tabletop battleship dice game than WOWS.

I will need ti upgrade the full ship and play more games with it, maybe the last upgrade for 22k exp is not only for AA but has some hidden stats in it as well.

Friend, Nagato is hopeless unless RNG GOD helps you and that is a FACT. I have that piece of crap fully upgraded, skilled captain, gun precision upgrade, EVERYTHING THAT YOU CAN UPGRADE FOR BEST GUN PERFORMANCE I HAVE UPGRADED, but guess what - last night i had 2, YES TWO situations, where i am 1v1 vs enemy BB, distance is 3.1 in one case and 4 kms in other and guess what  - WHOLE SALVO LANDS IN WATER, IN W_A_T_E_R even thou i aim perfectly in the middle of the ship. Let me repeat that - 2 cases where from distances of 3.1 and 4 kms WHOLE SALVO lands in water against BB.

I spit in your face WG for this kind of ridiculous crap, its just beyond stupidity....

It was said here many times but I will just try to reach you again

If you dont hit from 4km IT IS PROBABLY BECAUSE OF YOU and not because of the Nagato : /

I dont know anyone else shooting so many PERFECT SALVOS without dmg...

I am really looking forward to the Nagato... but cant push myself to endure the Myogi to get some actually descent ships after her:/

There is nothing critically wrong with the Nagato really. Yes after the Fuso you realise you are not firing 12 shells therefore the chance of doing damage decreases. But that is where you have to change the way you play. If you miss at 4km range then you are aiming incorrectly.

The ship does do damage, as I said earlier in the thread for me it is a better ship than the Fuso. I have it setup to make use of the secondary batteries, which in a good game have netted me 12ks worth of damage alone.

Adapt to it, and this ship is brilliant. My BB of choice in ranked.

I will sell this crap and buy back myoko. Probably they ninja nerfed it to crap.  Sometimes i cant kill cruisers with this turd showing their side , the shells are hiting the deck or plunging into water all around and many time it hits for 1000+ dmg. With fuso against cruiser showing its side from 10km was free citadel. Something is broken with 406mm AP shells. It either overpenetrates or falls in a strange angle and makes minimum dmg. Even on battleships many times it hits for 2k+ dmg. I can already shoot HE with a cruiser and make more dmg.

Neither does the Nagato. I grinded it all the way from hull A to the Amagi and I never received a citadel in the front or rear coming from anything smaller than tier 6 (and even those were rare). 16 inch guns from tier 7 upwards however, was kinda a different story because sometimes I did get some horrid hits. Then again, I kinda angled it all the time so can't really say.

Maybe what's happening is that you're getting hits on armored parts of the ship which are strong enough to stop shells from overpenning. When that happens shells deal 1/3 of their top damage, which can add up for a shitload of pain if multiple hits are scored on places where they don't overpen. A good solid salvo with 4-5 hits on properly armored places can easily rake 10-12k damage even without citadel hits. And those aren't hard to achieve at close enough range. But those aren't citadels either, and all battleships suffer from that syndrome, RNG providing for a tight enough salvo you can score some brutal damages without having to penetrate the citadel.

Actually that kind of damage is the main Tirpitz killer. At close enough ranges it's citadel is hard as a rock, but is an incremental armor design, not all or nothing, so a proportionally larger portion of it's hull is covered with medium armor compared with ships as the Colorado, or North Carolina. Hits there score 1/3 of damage of the shell and that adds up for some massive damage over time.

Matter of fact now I think of it Nagato is an all or nothing design, but not completely. There are some areas of the ship which are covered by medium armor (The upper belt area). Not as extensive (by far,as Nagato is technically an AoN armor layout) as in a Bismarck, but enough to be s bit more prone to that kind of damage than purely AoN layout ships.

Yes not being able to citadel a Tirpitz close up is nearly irrelevant when you can do 25k per salvo from a New Mexico 8km or so side on. Quite funny really!

I've been experiencing copious amounts of duds lately, to a point that I'm wondering if all AP shells didn't get a heavy nerf.

I can't get that thing to brawl without absorbing more damage than I can dish out either. I think I will remove the sec guns module to switch back to the long range one. Brawling is just too situational, you need the kind of support that most of the teams cannot provide.

Damn the Nagato has taken some getting used to.  I found the same in CBT because the guns behave so differently to the Fuso (and most other BBs in my eyes).  Today I had my best game in it so far with 123k damage but to be honest, I think I enjoyed the Colorado more...and it feels weird for me to say that!  I know the Colorado got buffed but I think I liked the get-stuck-in approach you were forced into by its speed/range.  I feel like the Nagato is more delicate than the Colorado so I am more wary in it and it has taken some adjustment with the guns and also its AA is pretty poor as is the turning.

I have finished the Colorado but am only about 60k into the grind towards the Amagi and after I might do a kind of comparison post of them both.  Although my stats in the Nagato are currently worse, I expect they will improve before I finish it but I also feel that by the end I will still prefer the Colorado somehow.  But I have no plans to keep either of them.

Also, the fact that I exclusively use the Fuso in ranked battles speaks for itself I think.

Care to elaborate? I am halfway through fuso, so I would like to kinda know what to expect:)

Not the best ship, but in my opinion is fun. It gets strange because it's way different to Fuso, which is a DAKKA platform. In the contrary, Nagato gets to shine in medium to short range against other BB/cruisers, the secondaries do decent damage, and with some angling the armor works well. Also in fighting retreats (like when you are in a flank and the enemy are 4 or more ships because your teammates are dead) it works fantastically if you just do S constantly showing it's [edited]to the enemy, moreso than any other BB i have tried: Many, many rounds simply do nothing on her. Frontally is good too, so for me it works to approach directly and turn abruptly to salvo, then again show frontal(more than in other BB). And for all this, the 20% modification to the rudder shift time is basic.  Ah, against upper tier BB though it's guns tend to do better¿?

Gunwise, it has no consistent damage: It tends to overpenetrate , or do nothing(against BB-Heavy Cruisers, usually aiming just above waterline, but well you know what shells do, splash anywhere). I haven't been using HE that much, but doesn't seem to be any more good against armored targets. When they pen, though, they pen good and do a shitload of damage. Accuracy is good enough. All in all I think they need some minor improvement at pen capacity, perhaps only at medium/long range.

Strange things: In a linear battle against other BB's, especially painful against  same tier or one lower american, it happens that sometimes you suffer horrendous damage in one salvo. So much that most times I avoid getting in those linear battles until I am at half range or less.  Must be that thing about the intermediate armor on the upper belt that another user comments.

But I like the ship, as it suits well for face to face BB action. FUN ACTION.

P.D: General complain: Japanese Cruisers are citadel boxes waiting to be hit with something. If an angry sailor throws a rock by hand at them, it will citadel.

I have come to dislike it more and more. It is not exactly bad in anything but feels like a mixture of lots of "meh"-features.

It is a downgrade to just 8 barrels of RNG coupled with higher reload than Fuso. They can hit harder in theory, but most times they overpenetrate instead. Speed is okay, but armor didnt work for me. Maybe this is bad luck, but to me it feels softer than any other BB I have played so far. Even Kongo felt much more sturdy. If you dont take citadels straight away, you get penned for normal x0,33 AP-damage. In a way this is like on the Tirpitz, with the difference that Tirpitz doesnt get citadelled. Secondaries are great on paper, but the occasions when they can really get to work are rare as well. Had one game with 16k sec-damage, but even the second highest was just 9k or so - negligible. Flak is mediocre at best, turning ship is mediocre, turret-turning is okay for a BB but still not quick enough to make it a distinguishable feature.

It is a totally bland ship for me. I loved Fuso, but I rarely play more than the double with Nagato. And the moments when your 8 shells just spray around the enemy from fore to aft, sparing exactly the area on which the enemy is located... no just no. This is T7, you rely on at least 1 or 2 hits here.

Shells overpenetrating might well be the same thing that I called dud shells - striking but dealing only 1k damage. We all agree that her AP shells need some kind of buff.

Her armor is below standard, at 305 mm it could be penetrated by any 356 mm gun, let alone the 406s. That is in line with the real ship but at T VII it's just not enough, I feel like fighting in underwear on a medieval battlefield.

One of Hiraga's projects like the Kongo replacement should have been a better fit for the tier, but Nagato is an icon of the IJN and couldn't be skipped.

Same feeling about the armor, it just doesnt stop much incoming damage.

The 1k-hits are definitively overpens and I hate them especially on cruisers. If you shoot a cruiser broadside (flat angle), everything that doesnt connect with the citadel is overpen. I found that it is best to shoot at cruisers when theyre angled so their effective armor is higher and you dont overpen, but then it is harder to hit them in the first place. My main target of choice on long range have become other BBs if I am honest. Both chance to hit and not to overpenetrate are higher on them. Except for when you managed a citadel-hit the artillery is everything but satisfying all in all.

I recently started playing the Nagato after not enjoying the Fuso. I didn't hang around with it stock for long but as soon as it was upgraded I have totally fallen in love with this ship. I'm having great success with it. I have always been a close range brawler and this ship really plays that style well. As long as I'm really concentrating on keeping myself at an angle then it feels tough enough. I have a lot of confidence going against other BBs and that I'll come out on top. Volleys of AP fold cruisers in short fashion, the secondaries annoy the crap out of DDs.

Would it be fair to say that you have Fuso type captains and Nagato type captains? One type suits you more than the other?

I'd say definitely, because I am still at fuso (so I can't compare it to nagato, but regardless of that) and can't comprehend that anyone could not enjoy it, so there you have it, different tastes I guess:)

Nagato is fine, very fine after upgrade... although i still went for ACC upgrade on main battery it allows to deal big dmg over very high range like kongo/fuso. Most things that are getting to its 8-10k range are mostly half dead ready to finish up just like in fuso (or kongo if something ever catched you).

Overall if feels little superior to US bb' of its corresponding tier if you dont afk yacht in it (like in kongo/fuso you cant do also) as afk yachting and lack of map awarness are punished in it far more then in US BB's (like in ijn vs us cruisers).

I liked every IJN BB from Kongo and forward, always thinking I would keep the BB I had when I unlocked the next, but every next one tends to be even better/more fun in its own way. Currently at the Nagato, I had to make the switch from long range Fuso captian to a more closer range brawler style with the Nagato. To be honest, I didnt think I'd like it but the Nagato  has proven to be a very tough ship with very powerfull main and secondary guns. Now that its fully researched I can see why players praise this ship so much, as you can pretty much do anything with it (rng willing). It took me a while to learn how to angle your boat, to avoid getting penned or citadel'd, but once you get this down you can confidently take on anything in your own tier.

Lessons learned on the Nagato had a major impact on my Warspite play aswell. Both ships are great

im wondering why ppl always praise the seconderys... they at max have like 7k-7,5k range (with flags) so its a joke and even if they hit enemy BB's they mostly bounce off making a dmg you could do with 1-2  normal poor hit shots in whole game with the extra acc module.

has it received a buff after patch like Colorado?

Cant seem to make up my mind on whether or not to buy this after reading thread haha So many differing opinions.

Of course you are right, the secondary guns will not rip apart another BB.

But they shouldnt be able to do that. These are just destroyer and cruiser caliber guns afterall. This does not make them a joke, however. The secondary battery is extremely usefull for those DD's that get close. They charge you and get within the 7,2km range, where the secondaties start opening up. The AP from the secondaries and HE from the dual purpose guns can really tear into a DD and their reload is rather short. Nearly every DD that charged my Nagato turned and launched torps pretty soon after the secondaries start shooting. Not only is their "forced" torp launch obvious to predict, its usually done at a range where you can still evade the entire torp wave. Often the DD tried to escape but gets blown away pretty soon, once your main guns get a fix.

Sometimes your secondaries will give you an edge against cruisers and other battleships, but those battles are typically fought at ranges where your secondaries arent of much use. Of course I try to get in range when its safe to do so, but they just arent always a factor in these kind of battles. But when they do, its very nice to have that extra damage output.

You can of course also switch out the secondary gun module for the AA module, enhancing your AA coverage.

Plenty good reasons to invest in the secondaries, no?

yeah the thing is mostly when enemy DD is in range of secondery then its something that went terribly wrong... In last 36 games on nagato i didnt even had 1 DD close to me ;) (all sunk earlier) so i still preffer the main battery ACC :D

Haha, yea you do got a point there. :)

Still, I like to have them. Crushing a DD's dreams of torping a BB is priceless, and in random.. well.. lets just say sh!t happends. Teams are some awesome that i'd like to have a plan B ready go. Few days ago I had to clear my teams capzone from 2 DD's. Lets just say i was pretty glad to have that extra range on the secondary guns!

You see to run a different setup tho. What are your fav captain perks and modules for a boat like the nagato? For my captain, I usually stick with the Basic firing training (I), then Expert marksman (II), Superintendent (III), and Advanced Firing training (IIII). Still saving points for the last tier. I also had main batt mod 1, secondary batt mod 2, and steering gears mod. Not quite sure what to pick on the third slot yet..

well for all BB"s are basicly the things you mentioned, i just preffer to shoot dd's when someone detects them on 10k range ;) (where i dont see an other imidiate threat).

as mods i use also everything like on kongo/fuso... AA mod 1, acc mod 2, anti fire/flooding mod, faster steering mod.

I only play nagato on rankeds so you can check my stats and effectivenes, just getting used to it but still half time on shooting on dd's and always shooting on max range enemy bb's on start i managed to keep 29% hit rate and almost 72k avarage dmg (as cruisers still dont know that they should engage DD's when they get close :/ ) - to be fair today i lost more games then ever before on nagato :D (actually i doubled my lost game rate).
