Just tried it to see what it looks like.

Unless it was different in earlier patches, it's actually not WGs fault if players can't read.

You had the same thing with WoT, you could sell a tank by clicking two buttons. Now you got to type in the exact amount of silver you're receiving when you sell it. People could read while clicking two buttons, yet we still got another check.

Since you can buy back tanks you sell, but never get back your commander, a popup warning would be very much in place.

The number of confirmation/warning popups is directly related to the intelligence level of the playerbase.

so maybe you're right, we are heading that way......

If you want to be all intelligent, read up about action slips.

I have a suspicion that WG doesn't include confirmation window on purpose - to actually increase grind and encourage buying reserve enlargement (otherwise, who would buy that thing).

That may be right for the default presets for premium consumables and everything else you can buy for gold.

But not for the dismissal of a commander. The default preset is to send him to the reserve. Look at the screenshot please. Twice, in red

Don't remember warning like that. I suspect it was changed in some patch.

Please write how it goes. I am training one captain for shuffling between multiple ships and it would be a shame to loose him due to similar accident (since I am constantly puzzled should I dismiss or put to reserve while emptying ship).

Play safe! I always move my commander to reserve or the next ship. BEFORE I sell the old ship.. I do the same with tanks.

If someone in a hurry to get credits for that new and shiny just unlocked ship, there is a high probability he won't read all the details.

Whatever, I give up, you win.

Shame on you wargaming for making players in a hurry to get credits read 3 lines of information and not implementing this:

I think we really need an additional "Are you really, really sure you want to fire this highly experienced captain, Chump? He's not coming back you know".

LilJumpa, you should realise a couple things.

Selling your ship is a routine action. Most of the time your reserve isn't full. By the time the reserve is full, they've probably seen that "sell the ship" window a few dozen times and they up till then have had no reason to assume anything changed from the previous times. Which means they're only going to read the things that are of direct interest, particularly the amount of silver they'll get out of it.

The size of the reserve is not something people are reminded off in an obvious way or are busy with. If the reserve is full, the expectation of the playerbase can, based on own expectations or on experiences with other games, be different from how this game deals with a full reserve. People may not even realise reserves can be full at all if they've for whatever reason not informed themselves. There are plenty of reasons for not knowing how the depot or reserve works considering so little attention, information and focus is given to it by Wargaming. Players don't need to go through it with a tutorial or anything.

One of them is that you hardly ever use it. Another is that you're focused on other parts of the game and don't consider it all that important. Another is that people may assume nothing can go wrong and it's foolproof. Especially if they have never encountered this problem before, it's going to be something they have to learn about. Unfortunately, in this case they learn the hard way.

As such, a lot of people don't stop to think if their action will result in the disbanding of their captain.

It is the responsibility of the game to warn players when a situation outside of the actual gameplay is potentially detrimental to the player. Fail saves are a proper way to deal with player actions to prevent human error from occuring. There's also benefits to the company, it for example saves a lot of GM time too if you don't get questions that need to be answered about things that could be prevented.

A couple of things the company could do.

1. Confirmation window with very obvious threat level appearance, explicitly warning a player an action he or she is about to take can be detrimental to themselves.

2. When you select the option to send the commander to reserve, immediately send an obvious warning at the point where the player at this time has their eyes trained, namely the dropdown button area. The current position is at the very bottom of the pop up window. This is something that has actually been done, but, unfortunately kinda blurrs into the background at this time.

3. A message that states upon sale: "The reserve is full, which captain do you wish to dismiss?" Including the options to "dismiss this captain", "select another captain to dismiss (that's not on a ship)" (in an overview window if the captains and their skills), "I want to expand the reserve" and "I want to cancel the sale of my ship".

4. Simply not allow the sale if the captain reserve is full, untill a captain has been dismissed before hand and room has been consciously freed by the player.

5. Visually and constantly inform pr remind the players while they're 'just in port' that the reserve is full and this requires attention. At least attract attention to it if there's a potential problem with it.

These are all very simply UI solutions to a predictable human interaction problem.

And for the record, this has very little to do with intelligence, this is more to do with routine and expectation patterns.

Figment, having seen that ship selling screen dozens of times is no excuse for stupidity. WG put in two warnings but I guess most ppl are just braindead in a hurry to get credits. So we need the saleprice "captcha" we have in WoT.

Again you call it stupidity while this is a case of routine actions.

People are in automatic mode when they do something routine, meaning they don't generally think as much over routine actions, in comparison to a new situation or prompted action (like the captcha you propose).

We're not talking about making intelligent maneouvres you always require concentration with, as in game actions. This is more in line with clicking on "agree to terms of service".

When was the last time you read the entire EULA before you approved it? Does that make you less intelligent if you don't and sell your soul to the devil or come to their office to collect $1.000 (as some EULAs had for fun and giggles to see if anyone read it). Please be aware of the type of interaction. I'm an industrial designer and aerospace engineer. I've seen people who always ace courses with 9/10, design a cockpit such that they might be structurally sound, but they did so by putting rigid I-beams, in such a manner that they completely block the pilot's view.

Intelligence, routine and insight are different things.

I never ever ever, no matter how much I play, would consider selling a ship/demounting equipment/deleting a MMORPG character/xyz to be a routine action, though:)

But, I guess a lot of people do, which I do find odd, but I am not going to argue. I see "type the exact name of the character you want to delete" in MMO's and I am like "I just went through THREE steps of very bright and shiny questions and confirmations and now I have to do a captcha thing?". Granted, in WoWs, it's not as prominent - BUT for that same reason I am MORE cautious in WoWs than in something like Diablo (where you really need to focus hard in order to do something irreversible).

Quite. But that's the thing, it's not supposed to be designed for you or me, but for everyone. If you're aware such pitfalls exist, certainly after years of "OH MY I FORGOT TO SAVE MY REPORT, HOURS OF WORK DOWN THE DRAIN NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" (ctrl-S is your friend... unless the pc locks up anyway), you're in a different position than a 12 year old who has little experience in (online) gaming.

To me selling and buying is routine, as you need to demount everything and install it yet again and often it's exactly the same things. Having came from WoT into this game, I did expect it to ask me if I really want to dismiss the commander when I was selling pensacola to get New orleans. But no, it didn't and the commander was dismissed. There's other red text there sometimes (like when buying with the commander and slot question), so I didn't pay much attention to it.

Of course I won't do that again, but it can be a beginners trap.

Photoshop is my weapon of choice, I can set auto-save!

That said, yeah, I guess it's true, but that's also a bit of a problem with those young people (I mean, I am not exactly old myself lol) - without trying to sound condescending, but I do think majority of them are too quick when it comes to EVERYTHING and then go "wow, how did this happen lol":) It has to do with global communication, huxley-ish overflow of information, special snowflake trend of rising a kid that bloomed during the nineties and so on, but if I were given anything of any value whatsoever (even a perceived digital value) I would probably try to fight with a dude who has a gun in order to protect it, let alone read some text:) If I EARNED it, I think I would like die with my hands clutching those ~3 euros I probably got from collecting bunch of paper from garbage piles and selling it to a recycling dude or whatever:)

But I digress... Anyway, yes, anything that helps people and doesn't damage others should be implemented. (but how will they learn to read the contract when buying a car or an appartment in 15 years?) - ok, I'll stop:)

They could easily block it. If there is no space in the barracks you cant sell the ship till you either dismiss another captain . Heck, right now it works this way with the modules you cant sell the ships if you dont have the gold or are destroying the modules.  Perhaps they should just take a look at WOT how modules, sales of ships etc are handled there.

Hi, I just dismissed my Nagato commander because it said no space in reserves. I wish there was a warning pop up, he was a really good commander I was building up.

He's mad at you for dismissing him. He's never coming back

I see this topic is till active. So just for those of you who are curious, I didn't get him back. WG support told me they don't have the tools to give him back to me. I guess it's just the kind of standard response from customer service.

There is indeed a problem with the interface, because when you sell the ship and set the commander to "send to reserves" and there is no more space in your reserves for that specific nation, then there is no warning to say he will be automatically dismissed so instead would you like to buy more reserve space instead? I think this is a common problem many players will face at some point.

I have since then got to Yamato, and I have retrained my IJN cruiser captain to the battleship line. It is really annoying because it meant I had to give up on my IJN cruiser line progress, but I have come to terms with it.

My commander just got Dismissed from my ship. I only play one country and usually have spaces. But, I guess from the Halloween holiday WG filled up my reserve slots with lvl 1 Orlan Soviet commanders. I was buying a new ship and was going to transfer him over, but while I was on their website buying some doubloons for the new ship camo he got dismissed! WTF!

I confirm: I've lost my lvl 15 captain just before getting my Hakuryuu, by mistake (because I'm a retard) and WG answered my 3 tickets with the same answer each time: "not possible, dont have the tool, sorry".

What a pile of BS, WG can very easily fix it, but they are only interested in taking cash, i have almost stopped playing, maybe one or two games here and there, i don'y like giving my cash to WG, roll on FIFA
