IJN CVs are terrible now

Just had some games to see 0.4.1's impact on IJN CVs

 

Planes seems super fragile and die very very quickly (Nagato killed full TB squad in under 10 seconds)

Planes do the weird circle thing even when you drop outside of the circle

Torp arm time is as bad as US carriers (with 2 less torpedoes so hits are very hard to get now)

 

For the record, the first game I played I got 2 torp hits and 2 bomb hits, that's the worst game i've had since I started CVs at tier 4, and I don't consider myself a bad player.

Yeah, torpedo bomber performance dropped. But boy am I having a blast with the fighter loadouts. Enjoying myself personally. Couldn't care less that torpedo bombers got nerfed, they deserve it. Dive bombers are better, fighters are miles ahead better and I now have a reason to do something that isn't spamming TBs.

Mess with the easy mode farming and people get upset, now CVs can kill planes better they need to up the planes rewards.

I think they do some extra circles now. Even when you set them up long before the "point of no return", they start doing circles much more often than before.

 

Was there a change in plane behavior that was not in the patch notes?

 

I mean DB's used to made some extra maneuvering, but it looks like torpedobombers do that now also

Except you don't, because you don't get XP for killing planes.

I get enough to go by. I used to get 2-3k xp per game when running only torpedo bombers, now I get 1k xp. Do I care though? Not really. I feel alot more engaged in the battle than I did before and I enjoy the changes thoroughly. I don't care if it takes me twice as long to grind through the tiers, because CVs are -actually- fun. I have no reason to try and rush through them to get to Taihou like before cause every tier is now enjoyable. You seem to judge how fun it is to sail a ship based on how much xp you get per battle. Not really the case with me.

Well your average damage isn't that high so I guess it's not a big of a change for you. If you enjoy fighters you might as well have just taken the US CV line.

The whole nerf to torp bombers is really stupid and wasn't needed along with everything else they did.

 

The silly circles and extra arming time make them almost impossible to use against cruisers and destroyers.

Not really. Because I enjoy Japanese fighters in particular. It's not a matter of playing what's ''better'', it's a matter of playing what you like. I love the zeroes, they're my favorite planes next to the ME.262. And it -is- a big change for me. Now I have the opportunity to play carriers in a much more enjoyable fashion that caters to my desire to see efficient Japanese air superiority. The change to torpedo bombers is ineffectual to me because I don't like them. I don't like being killed by them and I don't like using them. Would much rather scrap them altogether and run exclusively dive bombers + fighters as was the case for the majority of japanese carriers historically.

Played with vanilla Zuiho.. got matchmaked against Bogue with 2 Fighter squadrons in the air... you can tell how much fun it was to see that you don't have any chance to defend yourself against this planes... shot down 2 planes with 2 fighter squadrons... oh yeah...

 

XP in 3 games with 1.5xp bonus: 66...

 

dayum it makes fun to play this... /s

If you use the active ability(Press ALT to get the aim circle) and have the fighter survivability upgrade, you're good to go.

i've used it twice.. shot down 2 planes.. and then they died... against 2 squads... like 0 [edited] were given that day...

still downloading the patch.. but from what i can gather it is going to suck to play IJN CVs..  DD having ability to shoot down planes easily is just over kill.. it really nerfs CV to attack isolated BBs and while having air superiority.. which means CV players will be happy if they get over 1K base exp now.. too much nerfing..why? cuz noobs were complaining of CV killing them.. now they will complain about something else.. WG stand your ground.. there must be a limit how much nerfing must be done to appease the noobs..

 

 i think game was pretty balanced before, and i play all classes from DD, to CV and in between ..and US and IJN lines.. well good think is i didn't progress more than 5 tier in CVs..so still time to dodge the bullet if CV play has been trully nerfed so much.. will see if i can adapt.if not..time to abandon ship and switch to another class..

I wonder how long it's going to take for the complaints to switch to the Essex and Midway. They have a far easier time hitting torps on anything other than a destroyer but not that many people had them since the IJN line was the one that got all the attention.

DD's are not the problem in this patch. I think the biggest problem after patch is that torpedobombers make these stupid extra rounds all than time, even when you set them to attack long long long before the circle

The idea that WG had would have worked out fine, but USN fighters outclass IJN fighter.

 

The idea to 'balance' yes.

 

The actual idea they put into practice of nerfing IJN carriers so far below the ground they're nearly impossible to play isn't working out so much.

What are you talking about? IJN Carriers always favored combined attack with diving bombers and torpedo bombers but  torpedoes attacks were the true shipkillers of kido butai.

The val bomb load was unsufficient to make of it as efficient as the american dauntless.

 

And during the big carriers battle, the kates dealt the crippling damages to the Lexington, the Yorktown and the Hornet.

Well they changed CVs more from the test server then we was actually told because when i tried out CVs i had none of this planes taking ages to do runs and all that, actually felt they sped up the time it takes for auto drops.

The planes need to enter the attack point with good angle (almost in a straight line). They can't turn on the point itself and lock the attack like it was, you need to be a bit further away from the enemy ships while you reposition. So you now can't use the turning in a dime near the attack point, you need to be further away. 

That's how I'm used to play since alpha and I (almost) never repositioned them at the last possible moment, so I pretty much didn't notice the change when I first had to test it. But some who were used to it now have some problems, but that's temporary :)

first to the battlefied is DDs , they get AA ability ,then cruisers so when dd ability run out cruisers turn it on ,and bbs got better aa overall , and dont even think about going after higher tier ship ...

So the whole map is now 1  big AA panic blob. Usa fighters are still superior , you can hurt them now bit more but youll lose at the end as always.

Massive whining campaign has payed off ,jap cvs are gone the way of dodo bird.

and skill is- push button to destroy aircraft.

Go play tier 4 and 5 carriers then if you want to play without AA.
