DumbleDerp Beta Tester 659 posts Report post #1 Posted August 29, 2015 So just started a build of the Bismarck and thought I'd post the progress in here. It's a 1/350 Tamiya, so not the official, sponsored WG model, but we'll see how it goes. I'll post more updates as I go along, would like to hear from any other people doing similar stuff. I'll also try and get better pictures too
Slo_Mo_Shun Beta Tester 362 posts 826 battles Report post #2 Posted August 29, 2015 I look forward to seeing how this one progresses. Good build article on the Tamiya here. http://www.cybermodeler.com/hobby/builds/tam/build_tam_78001.shtml Was also looking at the Revell version.
DumbleDerp Beta Tester 659 posts Report post #3 Posted August 29, 2015 Nice. I did look at the Revell version, but my 1/350 build is just a prelude to doing a 1/200 Bismarck build using this as a guide: http://www.florymodels.co.uk/trumperter-1200-bismark-file/
Aldramelech Beta Tester 1,753 posts Report post #4 Posted August 29, 2015 So my 1/700 Italeri WOWS Bismarck arrived this morning as you know and I'm pondering various after market etched brass sets and wooden decks for it as well as the turned brass gun barrels that are available, are you doing something similar or just building it as it comes in the box? Looking at the 1/200 its probably a bit above my ability. It is stunning though. Hi, yeah. I've gone out and got wooden decks, photo etched parts and turned metal barrels for both main and secondary guns. I'm based in the UK so I've got two sites that are quite useful for you: http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?search_direction=asc&search=Bismarck&scale_id=1022 http://www.model-making.eu/ Both of those have some interesting after market detail kits. I don't think there's anything out there specifically matched to Italeri because it's not a big model ship producer, but some of those you can probably install onto your model. It depends like Slo_mo said on your budget, skill and interest in doing any future models because after market detail is pricey. Aldramelech Beta Tester 1,753 posts Report post #7 Posted August 29, 2015 From what I can tell, it would seem Italeri have bought the moulds for this kit from Dragon https://www.scalemates.com/kits/957494-italeri-46501-world-of-warships-german-battleship-bismarck This site gives you a timeline of the kit, it seems it's a Dragon re-box. If I'm right then aftermarket wont be a problem, lots of metal guns (all types on board) wooden deck and etched brass sets available for the Dragon kit. DumbleDerp Beta Tester 659 posts Report post #9 Posted August 31, 2015 So, just another update. Still doing some filling on the hull and starting work on putting the main super-structure together. Filling and filing and then refiling to be done. .... How did that get in there Can't do much much until the photo etch brass parts arrive.
[WG] Makoniel WG Staff 2,824 posts 13,991 battles Report post #10 Posted August 31, 2015 I see you made proper holes for propellers and rudders, do you plan to make an RC Bismarck? Seems promising though, with all this equipment, she surely isn't the first ship you make! When I'm home, I'll posts some WIP of my recently acquired Tamiya 1/700 Yamato. I have the brass, but I absolutely do need a folding machine to continue. It will be my first ship model... I hope it will be okay.
DumbleDerp Beta Tester 659 posts Report post #11 Posted August 31, 2015 (edited) Not planning on making her an R/C on this build, but the idea has crossed my mind for the 1/200 build I'm planning. No, I've built a fair few so have a lot of tools and bits lying about . Just needed a photoetch bender, which I've ordered. More than happy to give advice, but the internet is a much better resource than I am. I'm hoping this 1/350 Bismarck will be ready for the German tech tree release, but that's a tall order given the PE and wood deck work yet to even start! DumbleDerp Beta Tester 659 posts Report post #17 Posted September 17, 2015 Looking very good. Have you purchased any additional photo etch for it? Looks like it will need significant quantities of paint. I got the only photoetch pack I could find and the wood deck. Plus a set of turned barrels for the main and secondaries - which might I add are a pain to fit, but worth it for the look of the thing. I'll try and break the good camera out later for some decent update shots of how's the ship is coming along, because mobile cameras still suck. As for paint, actually not that much as I'm airbrushing a lot and you can cover quite a lot with not very much, lots of different paints and weathering pigments etc. I'm actually painting it slightly darker than required to give it a more menacing look .... we'll see. Here's a naff picture to be going on with: I've actually got a Tirpitz lined up to do after Bismarck, more extensive photoetch replacements and more work to get the look and feel right. Nice job doing that m8, Im about to order 1/400 Heller Richelieu after finishing this nice KGV project Cheers keep it up! dont mind that might mo on this pic the plastic quality was crappy and no more words for it Nice build. I did a HMS PoW a few years ago, fond memories and lovely looking line of ships.

Slo_Mo_Shun Beta Tester 362 posts 826 battles Report post #24 Posted September 23, 2015 That's awesome. Amazing details on that. Any after market detail kits? Another bank of cylinders to go on the engine yet along with the gearbox and other bits and pieces. No aftermarket stuff, only the added lead wire for HT leads and oil lines. Its the 1:32 Tamiya. Very nicely engineered, many parts fit and hold without adhesive (no, I do go back and glue them). Really looking forward to watching your ship progress.
