Public Service Announcement: Please do not make Failplatoons!

Hello!

 

Recently it came to my attention that not everyone knows about the pitfalls of division matchmaking and how to avoid them.

 

What am I talking about? This:

Military experts are calling this a "Failplatun". 

 

So what's happening here? The matchmaker creates games in a +/- 3 Tier band. So a player single-joining in a T5 Kongo might be matched against against a T8 Amagi in the worst case (5+3=8). Matchmaking for divisions works exactly the same, except that the game matches the division according to the highest Tier ship in the platoon. 

 

If the same Kongo player teams up with his Atlanta (T7) friend he/she will now have to face everything up to T10 (7+3=10). Good luck going up against a Montana or surviving a Hakuruy strike...

 

In short: Teaming up with higher tier ships is essentially playing the game on hard mode! 

 

How to avoid this:

 

• Ideally create divisions with same-tier ships only (Example: T5 Kongo + T5 New York + T5 Minekaze) OR:
• At least avoid spreads greater than plus/minus one and if possible use ships that are strong for it's tier. Example: A Fuso (T6) has enough firepower to hold it's own with ships one tier higher.
• For carriers: Always be the highest tier ship in platoon. Tier-power spread for carriers is much bigger than other classes. Low tier planes will be useless against high tier AA fire.

Agreed, all you are really doing is hurting your own team by dragging in somebody who shouldnt be there, it's annoying but you cannot do anthing about it. Maybe a limit on the spacing pr division 3+/- mm?

Well, you know my opinion about it .

 

They should just make it impossible to make these divisions. But they won't.

 

Maybe WG should at least implement a "warning" of sorts when you press the battle button and the tiers of the ships aren't in line with eachother. Though I wonder if that would help. Don't underestimate human stupidity.

This topic will popup again and again, WG could easily prevent this, but apparently they do not. So the only conclusion is that it's working as intended.

 

That means your only option is the play the cards you are dealt and make the best of it.

I have never understood and will never understand why WG allow this, It's a carry over from the old WOT days when there were no high tier scout tanks, this needs to be looked at now and stopped, there is no need whatsoever for the player base to be trolled in this way by ignorant people who just don't realise the effect this has on EVERYBODY else's game and idiots who think it's funny to do this on purpose.

 

I was in a T6 game yesterday with two Erie's in my team, there is no possible excuse for that level of stupidity.

Having spent 4 years(I think!!!)playing all three WG products(granted not too too many games in Warplanes(but then again who has!!!!))I can never understand why they don't have a system where at least you can only platoon with ships/tanks/planes you could face. I understand that you might still end up in a game out of tier but....... it would stop the stupid tier 8 and 1 platoons you see around every now and then

How to avoid this: Use common sense I would of thought but many don't seem to grasp that.

 

What annoys me lately is WG don't seem to be bothered with a lot of problems going on lately which I personally would of thought is a crucial time in this game to get things right and sort them out quickly. These divisions with the fail tiers causes a lot of problems. Not only does it put your team at a disadvantage but also can cause a lot of hostility in the team which can lead to team killing and a lot of toxic chat. Making this game not enjoyable at times. Have a lot more to say but I will just go Grr!... a lot of gritting teeth together lately in this game.

 

Edit: Oh and there isn't enough reports too.

I will never understand why doesn't WG put a cap for maximum tier difference in a division. I'm sure that by not allowing 2-3 tier difference ships to be chosen in a division would be amazing and would stop troll divisions

That's a great idea.

 

A simple confirmation dialog along the lines of "You will be matched against higher tier ships. Do you really want to do this? YES / NO" that pops up if a division has more than two tiers spread would be a nice start.
