I was an experienced WoT player, I played for a few years, got near Tier 10 before I stopped and played other games.  I came back to WG to try Warships.  I have got to tier 6 in an Aoba so far and felt I should offer some ideas to get this game sorted for release.

The main factor is "Fear" in a game for me, giving adrenaline.  I will use WoT for an example through this as this post, is this the game, me and most of you captains will have played together.  In WoT we all feared above all a well handled Heavy Tank.  The cream or staple of the Game as it were. In WoWS we have the batleship, which we dont fear as much as we should.  I have lost my fear of the battleship, in any tier IV to VI cruiser.  Yes respect them, but they dont scare me.

I now fear torpedoes, fired from destroyers or planes.  Which yes I agree all good warship captains should.  But not to the extent that this game now feels like World of Torpedoes, and not what attracted us here, which was big grey battleships brawling.

Of course Destroyers should keep their role, and they do it well.  But the one and only thing shat should be done to them by the devs would be to limit their Torp ammo.  Dont know if to real life levels or not, but their ambush death traps are constant through entire games.  Look at WoT and the Dicker Max.  Its shell limit stopped that being OP.  If destroyers had to plan ahead more and make them choose that vital moment, then they will become better captains as well as lessen the Torp threat.

I have already read in the forums good ideas for nerfing carriers, so I wont mention that more.

Battleship do need a boost too.  My idea is just bring accuracy to their guns again.  Give them that Heavy tank feel.  And make people fear them.  To bring all these changes together would need a whole visibility nerf.  Not alot you can do in the open sea sunny maps, but bring real weather onto the map.  And burning ships.  If anyone has ever read the book "Red sky in the morning" about the Battle or the Barents sea in WWII. You get the impression battles had so much more chaos and disorder.

So when a ship goes down, or been on fire, or damage, and even guns firing, and planes blowing up. The smoke stays in the air.  Imagine clouds of oily smoke of all shapes and sizes, drifting about towards the end of the battle,  Obscuring your view and lessening the now deadly accuracy of you guns, and improving that patient destroyers chances.  Dont know what all that would mash the graphics, but hey its an Idea.

See you out there captains

Well I must admit that I expected usual rant thread but I also must admit that I like your ideas, I do not see torpedoes as OP as many others do but limited number of torpedo ammunition (between 30 and 50 I would suggest) could only force DD torpedo spammers to think twice before randomly lunching torpedoes in to the blue.
And I especially liked the other part with smoke clouds that would stay for a whole course of a battle obstructing your vision and line of sight.

 +1 man! :great:

the problem with limiting destroyer torpedo ammo is that you miss alot of trhe time. in some cases torpedoes can take 40/50 secconds to reach a target and any change in speed dureing that time will mean they miss.

i have been behind an island and fired at a BB 2.1 km away and he turned a bit to avoid some shells and my torpedoes missed when he saw them and turned even more.

i realy cant say it any more clearly, getting hit by torpedoes is your own fault they take that long to reach a target no one realy has a right to whine about it.

@cometcruiser Although your points are well presented you really need to give the other classes a go as well before drawing conclusions about them. Thus far (in PvP) you have played 100% the cruiser class so give the others a go, you may return with the same opinion but at least it will be an informed opinion. As i said, well written piece.

You will start having fear of battleships once your Aoba starts getting oneshotted by experienced BB captains

So basically a nerf torps buff BB thread. The limit number of torps has been suggested so many times. But please look at most players % hit rate in torps. Double figures is kinda above average and about 300% lower than the hit rate for shells.

I'm not entirely sure I agree with the OP that much. I don't generally "fear" heavy tanks in WoT. For a heavy tank to shine it needs to be played well, and preferably move up as part of a push with support from other players. A lone heavy can be "neutralized" or even ignored by tanks that can out maneuver it with ease. Do you really fear that base-camping heavy that does nothing until the rest of his/ her team is dead? No, and neither do I, but several heavies and/ or other tanks acting together....that can be scary.

Much the same applies to BB's imo. A well played BB that applies it's fire-power in conjunction with the support of it's CL's can be devastating. Granted, a lone BB is, for the most part, a waste of space, as is a "camping" BB that waits for their team to die and then whines about the lack of support. I'm not saying BB's don't need some tweaking, personally I'd like to see an accuracy buff to close-range fire. But still, an unsupported BB is going to have trouble either way. Played to the role of heay-hitter in a group however, BB's can, and do, hurt. But I admit I don't play BB's that much...I would never treat a BB lightly though until I can figure out if the person at the helm is any good with it.

If you want to limit torp loads for DD's, fine....as long as you don't mind giving torps "realistic" spotting ranges (don't think anyone other than DD players would enjoy that, it would almost certainly break the game). Otherwise leave them be, torps can be ridiculously easy to negate, certainly when fired at range hit- rates against good players can be very low. IJN DD's in particular, which are generally intended to play at longer ranges would be nerfed to the point where you'd need to play them more like USN DD's....and USN DD's do that better.

I do like the idea of burning wrecks creating smoke barriers etc. It would add a more "dynamic" feel to the battlefield, which could make things a little more interesting for sure.

Personally I was a bit reluctant to trying World of Warships as my biggest issue with World of Tanks was the tremendous amount of grinding they force you to go through. However, I decided to try it as I sincerely do like Battleships - and I've always wanted a naval game that is quick to get into with a wide variety of ships -  and World of Warships is just that.

While I enjoy the game, I find that torpedoes are rapidly reducing my motivation to continue playing - I don't know if it gets any better later on at higher tiers, I hear that their reload times apparently increase by a whole lot. I've now had my South Carolina for a little while and while I do deeply enjoy having fights against Cruisers or other Battleships - quite honestly, I just think that Destroyers are too hard to counter.

For example there was this one match I had earlier today where a Clemson got a bit too close(I admit it's my wrongdoing for going that way, and without proper support) but still. I hit him with majority of my 305mm rounds, using HE ammo(I assumed AP would over-penetrate) - I'm fairly sure all but maybe one or two rounds hit. Yet, it only damaged the Clemson by roughly 40% of his total health. All he did was gain some distance, and launch his torpedoes - and as I was in a slow South Carolina I had no chance of evading and his torpedoes instantly killed me. This is especially frustrating knowing that it takes him only 10 seconds longer to reload his torpedoes which deal far more damage to me than I seemingly could possibly ever do to him. Add also to that his speed, maneuverability and low silhouette.

To me - that is not fun gameplay(and yes, I do understand the whole rock-paper-scissors thing going on). I know people will disagree with me, and flame me because people that enjoy the Destroyers can't possibly accept that someone is criticizing their beloved ships from another point of view than theirs.

In my honest opinion, I think there's something needed still to further balance out destroyers, at least from my early impressions. I don't know if it changes later on, but I guess I will see. As previously mentioned, when you think about the title World of Warships - you anticipated long battles with big ships firing massive cannons at one another, zig-zagging, clever use of consumables. Then a Destroyer pops up from another dimension 7km in front of you - giving you little time to react, and even if you do - you're not very likely to kill them in time.

That said, I enjoy the game, all I'm saying is that Destroyers often become very frustrating - especially for newer players(Oh no a new player providing feedback? Preposterous! It's clearly stated you must have at least X amount of battles to post anything on these forums!!!).

@Dealman Unless you are using a different ID, the record shows that you have played no games so far. So if you are going to post a recommendation based on game experience please post under the ID that you used to play the game so we can judge that experience.

Uhm... if you buff BBs like that, I won't play anything but a BB anymore. They already wreck cruisers like hell when you aim properly. If you buff their accuracy, they will even wreck DDs just the same.

no depthmapping of anykind? .... seems like an important aspect of shipsailing to know your sailing depth at all times.

no groundtargets / npcs in general of anykind? ... npc artilleries and AA and whatnot for some of the islands andor landmasses in general, where they would be...prudent in context of army emplacement placing and logic or so..

the crew system could be alittle more....comprehensive, currently just one (1) crew aboard any ship, the commander, while ships of the era, say, a battleships for example usually carry a compelement of crew up to several thousands

submarines....would be a fitting addition at the least with the depthmapping and since submarines were somewhat efficient to hunt aircraftcarriers in ww2, atleast american subs....mainly raiding tradecrap though

way more maps and environments / environment factors in general. nighttime engagements, flares, IR scope etc

and i really feel that this would greatly benefit of war thunder (the game) like internal module animation system, in which you see where your shots hit in the ship and what exploded etc

ships are pretty big structures with lotsa interesting parts and dowhackies and humans so that would be cool

safe to assume that a campaing (multiplayers/singleplayer) and so forth is forthcoming in the 'final' version..?

the history is good.

played wot since is4 was tier9 and before and mostly liked the history on that too.

i do realize it's a beta-level simulation at best but the modern trend of 'minimun content, maximun profit' is strong...i dislike this pay2win principle in generel so might be a bit biassed, still.

and monthly payments in games?1! get a grip.

ps. how about world of spacewarships...space of spacewarships....just spacewarships? would have to invent history for that though...

I guess some land-placed units for us Battleships and Cruisers to shoot at would be an interesting idea to develop upon. Especially since it seems majority of the XP you earn is depending on amount of damage done, seems like it's usually Destroyers that have the highest damage done for obvious reasons.

Do Destroyers suffer penalized reward akin to SPG in World of Tanks, or?

In CBT around the time of the aim assist BB were accurate and I can tell you, they did put the fear in people. Trust me, if BB aim goes back to being accurate no ship will be safe. Cruisers will be obliterated before they do anything and the longest range BBs will have a huge advantage. Becareful what you wish for.

besides, isn't it a little odd that all the gold-money-pay features with goldships and whatnot are fully operational and the actual game content isn't ready? or why is it beta...

Always nice to hear advice from people who think that they know it all, but only have experience in one ship class.

And why do people mention their experience in WoT. I don't start a topic here with "I played Sim City for years and now......." That makes just as much sense as mentioning your WoT experience.

Can some one please tell me what the difference is between OBT and full release?

I think OBT is just a excuse to make money of of a half finished badly balanced game.

I see the use of CBT, butno difference between OBT and full release.

Completely irrelevant since WoWs is completely different than WoT.

The cream or staple of the Game as it were. In WoWS we have the batleship, which we dont fear as much as we should.  I have lost my fear of the battleship, in any tier IV to VI cruiser.  Yes respect them, but they dont scare me.

Battleship =/= Heavy tank

With that comparison out of the way, anything about that paragraph is null.

I now fear torpedoes, fired from destroyers or planes.  Which yes I agree all good warship captains should.  But not to the extent that this game now feels like World of Torpedoes, and not what attracted us here, which was big grey battleships brawling.

Torpedoes are a big explosion that blow a hole below your waterline which you can't really contain. Most ships where sank, crippled or had t inmeediatly go back to port by the hit of a single torpedo.  Here, in your BB you can be hit by 3 or 4 torps and stay alive. I still remember that Kawachi I attacked in my Sampson which needed 8 torps to be sunk, he killed me BTW.

big grey battleships brawling.

Been there, seen that. Boring as hell.

Destroyers aren't automatic I win machines when they get close. You can evade most torps if you are experienced, you can cripple then with your main guns and your secondaries, you can even ram then. And even getting in a situation where a DD sneaks up to you it's your fault. This is not, "I ride my heavy tonk and I kill the stuff I meet" Just imagine some tanks bring bazookas with then, very slow projectile bazookas BTW. Playing in a BB is unforgiving, if you don't think ahead and prevent bad enconters you are dead.

I have already read in the forums good ideas for nerfing carriers, so I wont mention that more.

Oh yeah, we can't have one without the other right?

My idea is just bring accuracy to their guns again.

My friend Okitank was one shotting cruisers and BB 2 shotting BBs with his Fuso 2 days ago when we played. Guess he really needs an accuracy buff.

So with your logic, you're ONLY allowed to provide feedback regarding something if you have actually played it yourself. So just because I haven't played Destroyers, I'm in no way allowed to provide feedback regarding them despite having fought them with both Cruisers and Battleships? Just because we provide feedback from the "receiving end" doesn't mean we claim to know it all.

Then again, this is the exact same behavior as seen with the World of Tanks community - nothing but self-entitled elitists.
