Let's make some facts clear.

1. This game is not a 1:1 simulator. It's arcade!

2. In Alfa, Beta phase, this game was used only by :

a)devs (they had to know all the acronymes since they were talking with a few naval experts)

b)testers that are anal about every detail

c)naval fanboys

now
3. Future playerbase will be mass. It will be people like me. Some wierd country that speaks english as 2nd or 3rd language (if at all). They are not interested of naval warfare on any more level than "i wanna pew pew".

4. Future playerbase will be formed of people that are simply using words like "dessy" for destroyer, "BS" for battleship and some other cuddly names for carriers or cruisers.

I strongly sugest people that are answering to newbies, to drop the acronymes that arcade pew pewers wont understand.

It is a discussion topic... So lets discuss, if i'm right or not.

I guess there is no real issue with using the abbreviations like DD, BB, CV, CA

In WoT it is nearly the same. If you say "light tank" or just "light" or just "lt" and the same for the other classes.

Even WG uses them there and either after some time you think about it or after another player told you what it means, it is pretty clear and easy to remember.

For sure in WoT they are more intuitive and make more sense to someone who is not that much into naval stuff, but I hope and guess that everyone is able to remember 4 combinations of 2 letters each.

So imho it wouldn't be a big problem even for new players.

Well... I don't know. I will always use the acronyms, because I have never not used them. I'm talking about as long as I remember. And english is my second language as well. This is still a naval game, so naval acronyms and such will be used in any case.

Also I feel its not that difficult. And most people will learn fast what the acronyms mean, because I feel they are quite simple to be honest.

My main problem is not instantly knowing what a "BS" or "AC" is for example. My mind actually goes "oh right, Battleship/Aircraft Carrier".

Edit: What will maybe be confusing is if we are going to use subclass acronyms, like CVE or CL/CC/CB. It could become very interesting then :Phttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hull_classification_symbol

So, if you think that people are going to struggle with basic acronyms for the 4 (yes, just 4) classes of vessels currently in the game then maybe they shouldn't be playing the game let alone operating a PC sorry, personal computer.

I mean, adding H.E.,  A.P. etc might be a bit too much for them to handle. Good job they won't be playing WoT's (look it up) 'cos if you start mentioning, HEAT, HESH, AT-SPG, SPG then who knows where it will all end.

Or how about the new players could just read the threads in the Newcomers section where they're explained and LEARN them.

You always have to learn game specific terms in new games. Just get used to it.

Well BS could also mean the extrements of a male cow, so you'd be better of using BB for that. :P

Also the german abbrevation of a "Schlachtschiff" (which literally just means battleship) could be considered offensive.

I completely disagree.

You don't have to be a so-called "naval fanboy" to learn these acronyms, given that they were created explicitly to simplify things.

What does it take to learn them?

And, as others pointed out, your alternative to "BB" means another thing, so forget about it if you don't want to confuse new players further.

Your proposal is therefore completely illogical and absurd. Sorry.

Haven't we learned, how big % goes to forum ever from the entire WoT playerbase ?

And you expect every dude to get into forum to read newcomers section ?

What i mean is - there's questions and answers chat in game. I see newbie joining channel and asking something. Answers are good, but containing acronymes, that newbie has no idea, what they mean.

In WoT, indeed LT is easy as hell to understand - light tank.

Explain me how DD is easy to understand as destroyer ?

Starts with the same letter.

And I learned in Kindergarden to ask, if I don't understand something...

Because "cruisers", "battleships" and "aircraft carriers" all begin with a different letter, and so do their acronyms?

It takes all of 10 minutes to understand and remember what each abbreviation means. I guess country abbreviations could get a bit tricky (MN = Marine Nationale, for example) but DD/CL/CA/BB/CV are just very easy to learn.

So you're saying future player5s are lazy gits who don't even want to bother to learn real useful terms?

If they are that hopeless I don't care if they quit playing.

They should either Git Gud or stop complaining that poeple have knowledge they don't.

If we dont use acronyms like DD, people will make up their own, and thus we will get "dessy".

Let me make you a sugestion to put the acronymes into tech trees or somewhere, in F1 menu, so every newbie would see them from the first logon ever.

I can see the wall of hate right now, because you guys stick into the frames you've been using for a long time.
Why does a regular gamer, "11 year old boy from Latvia", have to understand the acronymes in a language, that he speaks 500 words, if that ?

So your suggestion is to type out Destro for a Destroyer thus increasing the time it takes to type something that is acronymically stupid?

Where as DD is simple and the whole acronyms where formed for ease of classification.

Besides, if someone enters a game about military ships, the least they can do is learn four (4) easy as pie acronyms. No one pretends they should learn the difference between a protected and an armoured cruiser, for example; but such a simple thing...

Naval fanboyism is one thing, perhaps, but let's not dumb this down too much, please.

If he speaks 500 words, can't he just learn FOUR more of them and be off with it?

Or will his head explode if he does so?

Seriously, why does it appear so difficult? I'm Italian and English is not my first language, but I have no problem whatsoever in using four English acronyms (which are not even words per se, moreover).

This is just ridicolous.

You are talking about making things easier, when you say that it's too complicated to learn four stupid acronyms?

You are not making sense, my friend.
