Now, I laughed really hard...

You know nothing, John Snow!

Maybe you just don't know how to use them. No idea who this John guy is though.

From Ectar's post on FAQs:

Q: Any plans to add mines to the game?

A: Currently there is no plans to have mines, this also applies to depth charges (no need as no submarines).

So there.

Mines are a real part of Naval Warfare, and always have been. 'Damn the torpedoes' actually refers to an American Admiral needing to get out of harbour despite a British minefield. The rails on the stern of a lot of Ru warships are for mines, not depth charges. Having them in the game would add a further element of realism.

Mines can only be laid in shallow water (in game, close to a coastline) so can be avoided by not going close to a shoreline. Apart from the Russians, most nations had specialist minelayers and minesweepers. Mines would have to be loaded in port, which means that they could only be deployed once per game, by suitably equipped ships. I dont suppose anyone wants to play a minesweeper at any tier, so the mines would have to stay until the end of game.

That was said by Admiral David G. Farragut, during the American Civil War; he was fighting the Confederate States of America...
