I [edited] hate destroyers.

Before anyone gets up in arms I'm not saying nerf them or anything.  Just a quick rant as in the last two days I've had my nice shiny battleships destroyed by a sneaky little bugger in and destroyer on five occasions.  They seem to be magnetically attracted to me or something as they make a bee line straight for me.  They're almost impossible to hit with a BBs main guns, secondary missed more than it hits.  And the buggers then pump torpedoes out by the bucket load at you.  Grrr, hate them, hate them.  Worst thing is I'm a terrible destroyer captain, have never been able to do well with them, even more hatred now.

It's ok mate, let it all out. Once you've calmed down think about what could have happened, what could you do to avoid it and keep getting better with each match at avoiding destroyers and shooting at then.

 

 

I too sometimes feel like raging when every [edited]part of the enemy team is being covered by Clevelands or I find 4 cruisers in front of me in my BB and they burn me to death faster than I can kill then.

Yes, battleships are hunted for sports by destroyers. Better get used to it. Or get yourself an escort and learn how to dodge.

Keep your eye on the map. Run away from them. Don't sit still. Don't be an easy target. Play DDs to learn how they work.

I main DD's, so... my advice is to play them to a decent level, they are by far the most satisfying ships to play because they get some much hate, and they get so much hate because people dont try to counter them, or dont pay attention, which makes killing someone in a big shiny battleship, so much sweeter.

Try giving it a fair shot to learn them. It takes an effort and the first tens of games will likely fail spectacularly, but they are very rewarding to play. And also, by playing the class that you have problems with in your main you will get to understand what makes them tick, where they are strong and what situations they absolutely don't want to end up in. I did the same with BB's during CBT, never liked playing them, but since I play Cruisers and DD's about 50/50 meaning the class that needs to fear BB's and the one that are meant to counter them I think it's a valuable experience to understand them.

And destroyers are easy to play just hug islands or stay beyond detection range and spam torpedos.

As a DD player I admit an isolated lone battleship is my preferred target for a torpedo charge. A battleship with a cruiser escort not so much if at all.

 

I know form playing a battleship how hard it is to hit a DD with the big guns and if you are any good with a battleship you will be loaded with AP to fight other battleships and one or two shot cruisers and AP is less effective to use when fighting Destroyers as it over penetrates them.

 

So what I am trying to say is don’t go out alone without a cruiser or at least a US destroyer to cover you as both of them are much more effective DD killers than battleships.

If it makes you feel better I ambushed a DD in my battleship yesterday. I saw it was going to sail round an island, reversed a bit and blasted it as it came round the corner. Boooom!

I love fresh BB captains in Minekaze, as long as they got a healthy appetite for fish.

 

So please continue to sail in a straight line even after you spot a DD in range, never change speed and just stay in gun view and snipe at my allies at 15km while I am getting closer and closer to your broadside and deliver six fish your your daily consumption!

 

I do hear them fish are quite salty, sorry for that.

No, they don't. The main reason why people think that, is because BBs are what attracts new players, thus BBs are more commonly seen performing badly in battle.

 

Crusiers are no match for a BB if the captain knows what he's doing. Destroyers kill battleships, battleships kill cruisers and cruisers kill destoryers. That's how the circle of life is in WoWS.

 

Personally, unlike OP, I don't feel any anger towards destroyers. They aren't particularly intimidating in most situations. 1 v 1, sure, but if you're in a battleship, you really should avoid situations like that.
