[TIP] How to change server and play WoWs on all servers (EU, NA, RU, Asia) using one game client

Hello WOWs community of the EU,

                                                     I am originally a player of NA and Asia server but I made this account specially so I could thank Haatra and other helpful posters of this thread due to whom I was able to successfully login on multiple servers with minimal hitch. Even though I was having trouble downloading the original script posted by Haatra, Hanszeehock was kind enough to upload his own copy.

Unfortunately his copy, though perfect for the most part, still has a quirk. One can login in NA, EU and RU servers without problems, but if you tried logging into Asia, you will be blasted by the following error.

"Unable to locate server IP through DNS. Contact Customer Care"

Generally this is a networking error with a variety of solutions but in this case it is just a matter of incomplete scripting. I am going to go ahead and post a comparison of both the old script and then new one that should help resolve this issue.

Old script

<scripts_config.xml checkPing="true" debugInfo="true">

-----------------------------

As one can see, they added two login servers to Asia server as well. These amendments done manually should suffice in logging into multiple servers without issues. Also at this juncture I would like to point out the fact that during introduction of a new patch, your client will download the patch it was originally intended for. For example if you download NA client but play Asia server instead, then your client will automatically patch for NA. That means you might be locked out of playing Asian server until the patch is catered to them as well. Also applies to special zone events like Halloween for NA. As long as they remain active, you will be locked out of other servers.

Apologies for the long wall of text. Was just hoping to help someone like this thread helped me.

Kind Regards,

LonerPrime

hi guys.......... this work for world of tanks also?

No and yes. No because the scripts include IP addresses that point towards WOWs server. Yes because, and I am not sure here but, since Wargaming made both these games then there is a good chance there is a config file in WOT as well. Unfortunately I stopped playing WOT about a year ago so I can't confirm this but if I am correct then the concept is pretty much the same. All you need to do is find out the login IP for your WOT server and include it in. Alternatively I am sure there is a mod that does this without messing with any files. Google can be of help there.

To clarify, i cannot use this method to go on NA servers and have a less stressful time trying to do ARP missions(arp takao) ?

Unless game version on server you try to connect differs from that your client uses (that can happen if for example server in question houses some ingame event specific to that server)- you can. For example, right now all four servers have same version of the game, and you can freely hop between servers with one client

When finally will we get unified accounts between servers? As we see on video streams, there are frequently no latency problems when playing on "foreign" server. 100-150ms ping is perfectly playable, even in a DD.

The latency issue is the only logical reason against merging the playerbase, and users should just have an option to exclude games with abnormal ping or packet loss.

Why do we have to create additional account, buy additional premium time, train captains from the start, or buy ships - on each server separately?

It is just sad when I try to find a decent game at 4am with less than 2k players on the server, and at the same time in NA it is the prime time.

Not planned at all, afaik.

They never considered that for WoT, so, I wouldn't expect something like that for WoWS.

Reason behind that is probably, that WG wants to specifically cater to the needs of the different server populations in order to make more profit. If they would unite the servers and allow free switching, they would need to unify the marketing and community event teams, which is not so profitable.

Additionally, each server has a different shop setup, so that dubloons and prem ships have different costs on the different servers.

So, mainly they won't do it because of sales reasons.

Times had changed. Now network works fine, even from Russia. I was in St. Petersburg not long ago and didn't notice any long latency issues. I'm Polish, and from Poland I have very similar network access as any Western Europe country. Pings 100-150ms are typical to RU and NA servers. UK and Ireland most probably can get <100ms pings easily, being closest to the US (cables go from there).

WoWS is a bit different from other games, because ships are not moving very fast - it is not a FPS where you have to buy the fastest mouse and all milliseconds of your ping matter ;)

BTW, cross-server network accessibility was recently directly demonstrated by showcasing EU "vs" US match...

Regarding "different markets" - also times are different now. If Eastern Europe countries can afford "western" prices, so can Russia. Target market size in EE and Russia is similar.

WG is critisized very frequently for differentiating between "markets", and is most probably losing quite a lot of playerbase because of that.

Also, WoWS has problems with reaching "critical" player numbers on the servers outside of peak times of the day. In the morning and after 1am numbers drop below 4-5k, and various "player selection effects" are very noticeable, like lack of lower tiers or over-representation of specific ships or player types. Allowing to join games on other servers would solve all that and would certainly be profitable in the longer term.

Even server problems can have less severe impact when players can choose games from other server as well.

It is hard to imagine that price differences between regional premium shops are worthy of limiting of playerbase growth. WG always stated that their goal is to make "games better" for players, and not shortsighted money-hunting...

SEA server for South East Asia, NA server for North America, EU server for Europe, RU server for Russia........ it's bad enough on EU with various languages, try it with Far Eastern Alphabets, Cyrillic, Arabic etc etc..... so no, Better that EEU goes to RU, WEU stays on EU.... clean up chat etc....

This is very helpful, but when I did it, it worked, the dropdown worked and everything but, when I try connect it says "error connecting to server" "unable to connect to locate server ip address through DNS" I have never seen this error before and I'm wondering if this is a bug or do I have to wait for it to reload or something?!?

I have the same problem, but can't fix it. It's probably because of the new updates and all. However if someone can save this please help!

I think I got it now:

<scripts_config.xml checkPing="true" debugInfo="true">
    <space>spaces/ocean</space>
    <offlineModel>PASD010_Fletcher_1942</offlineModel>
    <player entityType="Avatar" startDirection="1.0 0.0 0.0" startPosition="0.0 0.0 -313.0"/>
    <cursorScaleSpeed x="40" y="40"/>
    <server online="true">
        <host alias="WOWS EU" csis="http://csis.worldoftanks.eu/csis/wowseu"/>

        <host alias="WOWS US" csis="http://csis.worldoftanks.com/csis/wowsna"/>
        <host alias="WOWS RU" csis="http://csis.worldoftanks.ru/csis/wowsru"/>
        <host alias="WOWS ASIA" csis="http://csis.worldoftanks.ejp/csis/wowsjp"/>

    </server>
    <chat visibleLines="6"/>
    <writeCombatLog>true</writeCombatLog>
    <Dock3D>true</Dock3D>
    <curse_voice>true</curse_voice>
    <scriptProfiler address="0.0.0.0" enabled="true" netSend="false" port="6666"/>
    <GameParams packed="true"/>
    <disableTrainingRoom>false</disableTrainingRoom>
</scripts_config.xml>

I put in this code and it says that the server is temporarily unavailable, so I think that is correct? However, I will further investigate this.

Here is how I changed the EU server to Asia . The red letters was "Europe; eu" - change them with the letters of the server that you want to play and have fun ;)

<scripts_config.xml checkPing="true" debugInfo="true">

How do I access Inventory when Im on RU server using EU client?

Earlier, it was possible by changing "currentrealm" line in engineconfig.ini. Now it isn't.
