SBS Alpha Tester, In AlfaTesters 2,556 posts 1,924 battles Report post #5 Posted July 6, 2015 Lead the target? Where do i check ship stats, range etc? (sorry if i come of as an utter tard...) No reason to worry. Everyone has to start somwhere Over in the right side when in port, there should be a collapsable menu with "Survivability", "Artillery" and so on. Under the artillery menu if you uncollaps it by pressing on it, you will be able to see the maximum range of your primary weapons. If you then hover the mouse over the weapons, you will get even more detailed stats.
Darod_Khaan Beta Tester 138 posts 2,183 battles Report post #6 Posted July 7, 2015 As for figuring out how much to lead the target: Don´t fire a full salvo. Fire a single shot and see where it lands compared to your target. Adjust your aim accordingly. Fire the rest of your guns. Watch him buuuuuuurn!
Renegade61 Beta Tester 106 posts 3,581 battles Report post #7 Posted July 7, 2015 (Just in case you don't already know...) Tap left mouse button once....fires 1 (ranging) shot. " " twice....fires a full salvo. Hold down the mouse button.....fires guns singularly one after the other. (Ripple fire). To check your gun range in battle - Go into zoom mode, hold down left "alt" key, aim at a clear horizon and move mous upwards until the reticle won't go any further. The numbers on the right hand side of the reticle is the max range of your guns. (You can avoid using the "alt" key all the time by going to settings menu and then "controls". At the bottom is a check box which will keep all the ships health bars and ranges/shell travel time showing constantly.)

freemywilly Beta Tester 14 posts 2,032 battles Report post #11 Posted July 7, 2015 Well...the ship im using zooms OUT when i try to zoom in. I MAY be using the wrong button. Pressing the ( left )shift-key changes zoomstate instantly. (zoom in , next press zoom out) Pressing the left alt key gives you Information about distances (the enemies distance, your weapons actual firerange) After a salvo i press the right mousekey asap, because looking at the target until the bullets hit or miss may cause running into the obstacles. [VC] OldJoe Weekend Tester 132 posts 18,701 battles Report post #12 Posted July 7, 2015 My advice - always use the same zoom level for aiming - this way you have always the same amount of target lead and just need to remember 3 rough values for BBs ~23 kts, CAs ~30 kts and DDs ~35 kts... [HHF2] DiscoPandaXXX Players 18 posts 952 battles Report post #13 Posted July 7, 2015 So far....what i gather is that you gotta "guess" alittle. Its not just "target - fire - forget"?
69thBuLLeT Alpha Tester 176 posts 1,602 battles Report post #14 Posted July 7, 2015 So far....what i gather is that you gotta "guess" alittle. Its not just "target - fire - forget"? This game is all guesstimation. That's what sets an experienced gunfighter apart from a new one. Also, make sure that the ship you're firing at is targeted. (Has the white marker over it) You can change your target with the X button. This affects your shots greatly.
[POP] YukiEiriKun [POP] Beta Tester 1,500 posts 5,749 battles Report post #15 Posted July 7, 2015 Umm.. Isn't there a big circle around your ship that tells the gun range? If target within -> shoot. If target outside -> don't shoot. (unless target heading towards and you know he'll be within the range when your shots land) But I might be wrong.
Adrian1914 Beta Tester 300 posts 5,993 battles Report post #16 Posted July 7, 2015 I would advise you to watch this dude's video, he explains and shows the basics of aiming. The video is from a series - Captain's academy, I suggest you watch the rest of the videos. Some things he says you may probably know but still, you can learn something! Earl_Grey Beta Tester 14 posts 377 battles Report post #18 Posted July 7, 2015 (edited) First thing you do every game, hold Alt then press Enter (on numpad) let go of Alt then press Enter again, it will show you range information and HP etc. You can check Torp range (or any range) by selecting the torp and aiming off into the distance, once it's red it's out of range, if you slowly move it forward and back you will see the exact range of your weapons. [ICI] _Saracen_ Beta Tester 45 posts 8,043 battles Report post #19 Posted July 7, 2015 Yeah you guess where the target will be based on their distance, angle and speed. So while you might get used to shooting ahead of the target, always look at the angle the target is heading in as well. Watch those videos posted above. [POP] YukiEiriKun [POP] Beta Tester 1,500 posts 5,749 battles Report post #22 Posted July 7, 2015 There is also an easier way to check the maximum distance of your torpedoes (and guns). Just hold CTRL and hover your mouse pointer over the icon.

Smi2k Alpha Tester 560 posts 1,009 battles Report post #24 Posted July 7, 2015 1. This game has a brutal learning curve. 2. I love it! Two games played...i fire alot of salvoes. I hit absolutely nothing. Whats the trick?? Leading the target at first needs some practice, but once you got that, its more about "trusting your guts" if you are not the type to fire an aiming shot (wich i well...never do ). Its just about having the right sights if the enemy is going slow, stands, moving at max speed and so on but all that comes with playing experience. If you feel more comfortable, always use the "Rangefinding Shot" especially on BBs where a missed salvo can be really painfull. Your maximum gun range, can as already stated be seen in Port but also, when in Battle and you are not sure if the Target is in / out or moving into / out of your maximum firing range, take a quick look at your minimap! See that white....Cut-Circle? (sorry, dunno the english term, maybe a fellow english speaking mate can help me out here ^^) thats your maximum Range (same goes for Torpedoes)
