Would be so handy to inform any friendly ships that you are nearby or warn them of a collision. Plus we have a collision alert for islands so why not for other ships, surely our ship crew includes more than one lookout. At LEAST 30 seconds between toots. If not, imagine the horrible early game spam. Exactly when you need the horn the most it will be drowned out by idiots bleeting away. Also, while it is cool in theory, it is probably not so cool when you have to consider how it will work. What should it's distance be? Will it increase detection? Does it drop off sharply, lightly or does it have a wall? How does the intended target know where you are? Etc etc. Simply speaking, I would love foghorns, but in the end it would probably be too much work, to make them function in a proper fashion, and without making them a pain most of the time. I keep thinking I miss a foghorn when I: a) see someone a few 100meters away, clearly on a collision course with me in tunnel vision b) see someone creeping behind me, his guns meters from my ship pointed to some guy, through me c) slowly creep through the DD mist and about implementation, they seem to have been going through great lengths to have a sound (and channel) for each ship+individual cannon , so I doubt one mediafile going woooomp for whatever range you consider close enough for secondaries shouldn't be that hard.. and abuse?, even at 10km range it would be less annoying then the ping mini-map-spam which I can see and hear clearly on the other side of the map ;P 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

[RACC] b101uk Players 181 posts Report post #12 Posted July 22, 2015 ships foghorn should reveal your approximate position to the enemy at quite considerable distance, thus make it imperative you don't use said horn, likewise the more enemy that are within the audible range the more precisely your location at the time would be know to them due to triangulation. however if you were to use your foghorn in convoy given any likelihood of meeting an enemy ship/s in weather that has not reduced visibility to dangerous levels and given your radar is still working, then your command of your vessel would be short lived, as your fellow commanders wouldn't want such an idiotic person in charge of a ship, so there is good argument not to implement foghorns at all, given doctrine would be NOT to use them. Not much fog on any of the maps to date, except smoke, and I don't think you want the enemy to know where you are so don't sound your foghorn in the smoke.... Penant mode disengaged...
