So I get hit by someone who isnt looking where he is going and I have to pay a fine.

Sorry but this system seems stupid.

p.s I am talking about when a ship collides with another not shooting fines/compensation which is ok.

As the system is not able to identify the one responsible for the crash both players have to pay a fine.

That is the same system as it is in WoWp because you obviously can't use the WoT system (the faster one has to pay).

Both pay the full prize and get half of the fine the other one has to pay.

If you can't suggest a better system the current one is more than acceptable as people can die through team ramming and without fine the whine would be even bigger.

Steer your own ship. Be aware of your surroundings.

Missing the point much?

System I would suggest is no fine at all. I'll give u an example.

I was playing yesterday and from the off someone plows right into me. I say "sorry but what the hell". He replies "you gonna cry"? Why should I have to pay because of a twit?

When someone hits your car in real life and its not your fault you pay? (well you do indirectly on your insurance ofc).

And there are the other examples of where it's simply just an accident because you are dodging shots and it's nobodies fault so why fine....sorry but just seems an easy fix without too much thought.

So how, exactly, do you intend to determine whose fault the collision was?

You dont need to if there is no dmg done.

we had this, people continued to hug each other for minutes then ;) most did not even realize they are constantly ramming another ship

I don't think I'm missing the point.

When I drive my car and some nutjob does something that could result in a collision, I take evasive action. I don't continue my way because I had right of way or something.

Yes, there are people in the game who lack the necessary awareness or are just mean. You are still responsible for your own course.

If some team member rams you intentionally, write a ticket, append the replay and have the GMs sort it out. Otherwise try to be the smart guy who avoids the collision.

And no, I don't think that no fine at all is a good solution.

well i still think you are missing the point as this thread and poll isnt about how to pilot your ship. that's obvious...it's about what happens when u are the innocent party and still have to pay.

Again: How should the system know that you are the innocent one in case you really can't avoid at all?

As there is damage dealt there is obviously a fine and as both take damage both have to pay for it.

Yes, I understand your point quite well. But as long as you don't come up with a good solution as to how the game engine can determine who was responsible for the collision, your point is void. Because no damage and no fine is a far worse solution because it promotes recklessness.

I understood you quite well. You reasoning is faulty. That is the problem.

Eh? Thats like saying you can never tell who is in the wrong.

Thats a load of cockemeny horse xxxx sorry. I know from several examples there was no way on earth it was my fault.

And strike me down right now if this isnt true :) Or you telling me in real life people arent hit when it's no fault of their own. Yeah right cmon man.

No my reasoning is perfect but yes I might not have the solution. But correct me if am wrong that's not my job.

And this thread isnt about finding the solution it's about whether you think the current solution isnt good enough.

By all means we could have another thread discussing what could be done but that wasnt my intention hence why I said "you are missing the point". I can see where u you are coming from of course!

I asked you how the system should know it, not if you know it.

So again: How should the system know who is at fault or how much fault both parties have?

Edit: And yes, the fines are rather small. At maximum some hundreds of credits if you are not hugging for a really long time.

It's a tiny tiny fine!

Then perhaps its not that important then. I was wondering though am I gonna get pinged for being a teamkiller because of say x collisions per day etc (think I have had 2 since playing obt).

You won't. Friendly collision damage is tiny. I had my destroyer hit by battleships (me midships; BB fore peak) which would have resulted in me being cut in half in reality as well as in an unfriendly collision.

In the case of this friendly collision I lost less than 1000 hp...

You would have to do that intentionally and all the time to get a negative flagging I think.

Not always. Yesterday some blind !@#$%^ crossed my path from blind spot in 2x faster ship when he had like 30 hp left. Absolutely no chance to dodge, even though i tried. So i killed him with collision unfortunately. Fine was not minuscule as always, but almost 15000 credits...

Amusingly, the fine scales with Premium...

But, mostly it takes 2 ships to collide.

- if you collide with a BB, it's *your fault*.

- watch out for ships like the St Louis (they will tend to zig/zag/spin to bring all the guns to bear).

OK. This is pretty unfortunate.

Did you get the color flag?

I have to agree with the others, when saying that finding out the guilty party in a collision might be obvious for us players, but not so obvious for the game.

This is an undisputable fact; unless OP recognizes and factors this, we won't get anywhere.

And I think that if someone thinks that the current system is not working, the most logical thing to do would be to try and come up with a possible solution. Because otherwise the whole thing is rather pointless...

These fines are tiny, when I bump a player it's normally like 20 credits and 2 xp, what is there to moan about that, it's not like you lose half your xp and all your credits that match is it? Unless of course you play really badly and get only like 100xp overall, then it might make a slightly bigger difference.

There are maritime rules and regulations that deal with this, someone posted them on the newbie part of the forum. Basically, when there is a collision, the fault of the collision will lie with the more manuverable vessel because according to maritime law, a smaller more manuverable vessel must give way to a larger less manuverable vessel. I am typing this on my phone so I'll try to get a link when get access to a computer.
