Play her with caution and you will get some great games.

 

Key word - some.

 

With Omaha at the same tier I can get good games more consistently. With FurryTaco I consistently land in the middle in terms of experience... With Omaha, I'm more often closer to the top. Yet, I had couple of my best games yet in Furutaka.

The furuspaka is just bad, bad range, bad turrets, sluggish turn, poor torps and a giant crit box consisting of engine and citadel. The only time I have had 'good' games is when there are more window lickers on the red team than green, even then most of them have been 3 kill losses. I have even managed to kill one (a furu), from half health, with the secondaries on a CV.

Having said that once you get every upgrade on its close to being usable but its still just a vbad boat

On another note... I no longer have to worry about this POS.. onwards and kind of sideways to the Aoba

you forgot bad AA, worse than tier 4 BBs and tier 6 DDs!

The Furutake is a horrible ship in 0.4.0. Her guns handle as poorly as BB main guns and it is in fact faster to turn the whole ship instead of turning your guns. She has higher calibre guns that it's direct US counterpart the Omaha, but the Omaha has one more barrel per broadside and a substantially higher rate of fire, 8,5 shots per minute versus 3.5 shots per minute and that is only after the upgrade from 200mm to 203mm. Furutake has slightly better torpedos than the USS Omaha, but her torps actually have 1 km less range than those of her predecessor, the IJN Kuma. I would prefer range over direct damage, especially in a Tier where secondary batteries gain ever more range.

 

The Omaha is slightly faster and slightly more maneuverable and her AA rating is twice that of the Furutaka. Again compared against the Omaha, the Furutake is slightly more durable and is detected slightly later, but given the poor traverse speed of her turrets and reload speed, an Omaha will probably win a direct duel against a Furutake.

 

Worse still, a Kuma has a fighting chance at defeating a Furutake in a 1 on 1. All in all, a rather disappointing ship which really needs something added to it to make it competetive. If people hadn't to play her to reach the Aoba and the other Japanese cruisers, she'd probably not be played at all.

 

e.g.:

Faster turret turn rate

Give her at least some turrets with two guns instead of only one.

Increase the AA armament

Give her at least the same torpedos the Kuma has.

even only a small buff on the aim time, from 45 to 30 sec, would make furu way better

Something really should be done about this ship going from the Kuma to this is like a swift kick in the balls.

 

The traverse and reload times need adjusting as they are shockingly bad, especially the turret traverse it struggles to track anything and I swear i've never seen a rudder get knocked out as much, i'm pretty sure I saw a seagull flyover, crap on me n knock the thing out.

 

Look at the Omaha it's less damage but it fires over double the rounds and has twice the traverse. It's all good having higher AP but when you're in game where everyone is using HE lighting you up like a torch every 2 seconds and you're rudder fails anytime a sailor farts, something needs to give.

Dev's you have to do somthing with this ship. its totally NOT an enjoyable experience compared to, well anything!

 

it takes ages to turn the turrets, ages to reload them, ages to turn the ship.

This is not a rescipe for fun! im all about having a fun ship and for 99% of the time the ships in wows are fun.

 

personally its taking ages to get ANY xp, im on loosing sides all the time and its probably in no small part my fault for having a furu'. not being able to shoot, not having enough reload rate to guage distance in the heat of battle where as any other comparable ship can with ease, i know cause i have & had T4/5/6 us CA's.

 

at the rate of xp im getting this evening im expecting to be out of the Furu' in about, oh i dunno ....my kids retirement? (they are still in school.)

 

It got me the feeling of a massive grind with a really BORING, unenjoyable ship. makes me want to not bother, im sure you dont want that!

 

Please consider changing something on the Furutaka.

 

possible:

turret rotation, or

reload speed of main guns, or

rudder turn rate. at least one of these would at least be better than the current situation.

 

please just test it...

i want to play all ships but this grind is rediculous. none of the other ships/classes feel like the Furu's grind.

 

people can post all they want about how to play a ship but most of the time it wont work due to the way teams are set up, class/tier balances etc etc. on a perfect match maybe.

if it were that simple i wouldnt be posting to say THIS SHIP IS BORING. i want to progress up the ijn ca tree in my lifetime.

 

how long did it take you to progress through the Furutaka Quinzer? out of interest...

if you want to play the ship, learn how to, there are lots of post about how to use this ship

 

If you don't want to stand in traffic, don't go to work...like...that is not helpful...at all? 

 

If you want to play IJN cruisers, you have to play the Furu.

 

And there is hardly a "learn how to". All you can do is remedy the pain of playing with her a little bit, but you can't cure the sickness.

The problem is not learn to play. Sure, you can make this ship work, and have a nice game, but it's not fun. And for every nice match you will get another bad ones where you can't even kill a tier lower ship or two!

Man, the Furutaka is a waste of everyone's time an energy.

 

 - Increase rate of fire to put its damage per minute in line with other cruisers of its tier.

 - Increase turret turn rate so your aim isn't up the spout every time you turn to avoid battleship fire.

 - Give it a gargantuan phallic statue for everyone to aim at that doesn't knock out the engines, steering or give citadel hits, unlike literally every other inch of the damned thing.

Between yesterday and today I finished my Furutaka nightmare. This is the result:

Used about 8k free XP to unlock the second hull and the "improved" guns prior to any battles. Used +50%XP flags in 23 of the 25 games, and took advantage of 24h of premium time I got in a promotion someone advertised in the main forum. 

 

I didn't use the Furutaka in CBT because I went past tier 5 before it was in the game. Now I can claim it's the worst ship I have tried in my +1.5k battles. Much much worse than the Mutsuki, Pensacola or any other ships that are generally unpopular.

 

The ROF sucks, but I can live with that because it's something historical. Still, Aoba's ROF is buffed for the sake of playability and balance, so they could do the same with Furutaka. But that turret rotation... in my opinion, with a turret rotation buff that allows them to follow the targets while maneuvering the ship would be much better.

can't really relate to all this hate. I like here. You simply need to adapt which might take some games. There's plenty of good advice in this thread.

 

But if all this hate and those who struggle with her really means she might get buffed I'll take that gladly and probably keep here in anticipation. :B

Yes, that's all very well and good, but it is not shown in context with your results for other cruisers.

 

Lets put it this way:

A good FPS player will probably still win when using sub-standard weaponry in that game. However, their performance will not be so dominant as they are used to.

A bad FPS player will be bad regardless of the weapons they use, but when using bad weapons, they will be worse than normal.

The first salvo i shot from the furutaka i sunk a full health destroyer at 9 km distance, yes the absolutely first salvo. 

But it turns horribly and the turret traverse speed is awful, not the best ship around but when upgraded it isn't that bad for its tier. 

First thing first, play it like a BB means you have to plan your moves. Don't engage dds they will hurt you due to slow rate of fire. Go together with other cruisers don't face enemy alone. The 203's are beautiful support weapons and the long range torps (10 km) can really hurt BBs not paying attention. 

 

Right now it is one of my favorite ships, much more fun than for example the omaha.
