Krogort Beta Tester 149 posts 4,347 battles Report post #1 Posted June 29, 2015 (edited) How to play this ship ? I have finaly upgraded it but I find it far from enjoyable, and perform much worse than with the Kuma. The only thing it has going is its look. Bad points : -only 3 6km torpedoes on each side -45sec gun rotation time -bad AA -trademark paper thin armor -never seems to light up fires (I think it's the biggest loss of DPS compared to Kuma) -bad turning speed and rudder shift time Good points: -Fighter plane -Large caliber making it easy to penetrate other cruisers Is anybody able to use this ship effectively ? how to play it ? long range coward ? Varmund Beta Tester 17 posts 515 battles Report post #3 Posted June 29, 2015 The best thing about this ship is the one after it which is great, the grind is horrible but its worth it. I think once you get use to it, its not actually that bad but the reload is dreadful and should be half the time it currently is. You cant go toe to toe in this against anything else because the guns just take far to long to load
Coenraad Beta Tester 318 posts 5,132 battles Report post #4 Posted June 29, 2015 It is a new playstyle compared to the Kuma. Let others go first and then try to sail second line but not too far back as you only have limited range. She plays much like an Aoba with lower RoF. I think she is decent but yeah the Kuma is a beast too. If you have the economics you micht try to free xp past her if you hate her. Just keep in mind Japenese cruisers prefer second line combat or defensive where you can use torps. Frontline they die fast when focussed with ap due to the large citadels

Thlurp Beta Tester 463 posts 1,731 battles Report post #6 Posted June 29, 2015 the Kuma is pretty awesome if you think its a piece of sh*t, you should rething your playstyle. The Furutaka actually IS a stubborn b*tch ship...i didnt like her either

Coenraad Beta Tester 318 posts 5,132 battles Report post #8 Posted June 29, 2015 Kuma is great, however if you are under fire never show your side. Like all ijn cruisers she is a walking citadel. But she has great guns and good speed anf torps on both sides. More then once i just run straight at a bb with its narrow profile, and just turn to drop torpd and then turn for the other torps. Just an epic boat for me
[GOUF] RambaRal Beta Tester 337 posts 7,140 battles Report post #9 Posted June 29, 2015 Furutaka was a punch in the face for me in CB, I also opened a similar (or posted in an already present cannot remember) thread some weeks ago complaining about the ship. Well, ironically in the end she was a ship where I had nice battles with. The change occurred when I set my tactic to put engine on 1/2 speed and flank BBs using them as meatshield and adopting their game style: plan the side you want your guns to fire and stick with that as much as possible in the cozy second lines. Forget the aggressive gameplay of a Tenryu and the one of a Kuma and think about being the gunner on the 6-barrelled tail turret of a BB... maybe is not the most exciting or even most correct way to play it, but in my case helped a lot. genai Beta Tester 675 posts 1,928 battles Report post #10 Posted June 29, 2015 Kuma is great, had great game in it, 123k dmg... but furutaka is just plain horrible! You forgot to mention that every HE that hits you will kill your rudder/engine! So many games where i get 1 shell hit on me (i dodge the rest) and rudder dies... i fix it, next shell hits and dies again and i just sail straight for the remainder of the repair cd and die... Even worse if you were turning at the time, because you will keep turning but your guns cant turn fast enough to compensate so you cant shoot at all... LOL It is worst ship i played so far, including pre-wipe where luckily it went from kuma to aoba Being in back lines doesnt help with poor range and people still focus you! I died first while being in the mid of the pack and even running back when i noticed all focusing me... still they went for me... and when i died i checked the rest of the team... they all had 90-100% hp... i was the only one they shot at, since its easiest to kill i guess lol! If you are in range to shoot them, they can shoot you and even have range to spare...
[SPUDS] Unintentional_submarine [SPUDS] Beta Tester 4,052 posts 8,765 battles Report post #11 Posted June 29, 2015 It might sound terribly 'duh', but the Furutaka really needs someone else to soak the attention. More than most other ships. But if you can sit safely behind a battleship eating all the enemy shells, she can be a beast. Her main weakness, her slowpoke turrets can then stay on target, and they hit hard and quite accurately. As soon as you sense the enemy shifting attention to you, get the hell out. The Furutaka simply can't withstand the enemy fire, probably because you have to present the weaksauce belt and huge citadel to it. So protectionscumming is pretty much the way forward with it. The less you have to change your path, the better. But all in all, it is pretty rough ship to play because there are so many things you simply can't do well. Machy234 Beta Tester 4 posts 621 battles Report post #12 Posted June 29, 2015 Furataka is good for sneak attacks or hit and runs in my opinion, unlike the 3 cruisers above it - Aoba, Myuko and Mogami - it actually has offensively placed torps which can fire relatively forwards so use them to your advantage. Apart from that try and stick with other ships so the attention isn't on you, which is a theme for all the later IJN cruisers so you're going to have to get used to it. As for the slow reload time it makes good for single volley tactics, you may only have a few guns but that's the same with the Aoba. As such try to avoid going head to head with a cleveland as it will wreck you very quickly, also try to avoid destroyers as the long reload time, little manoeuvrability and lack of a decent secondary armament will put you in a tough place unless you manage to torp the DD; which I have done at short range before he torped me so it is possible. Richard_V Beta Tester 122 posts 1,179 battles Report post #13 Posted June 29, 2015 Furataka is not complete failure, it's only tier V, but i agree with post points above, it's one big floating citadel and rudder dies astonishingly often, hence those circa ~44k exp i have to score with her are reasonable because Aoba, Myoko and Mogami are really good ships. Stugga Beta Tester 267 posts 8,558 battles Report post #19 Posted June 29, 2015 -45sec gun rotation time As I said a couple of times about Furutaka. 45 sec turret traverse speed on a cruiser in tier V games that everybody zig zag's like crazy is unplayble. (I had free XP'd Furutaka back in the days). There's no way to play Furutaka, it just sucks. Wait for Open Beta, play against newbies and hope for some decent XP per battle grinding your teeth. fruitnveg Beta Tester 64 posts 10,541 battles Report post #21 Posted June 29, 2015 (edited) Furutaka gameplay = Kite, angle. Fire at max range (AP) use torpedos as area denial for people chasing you or as a last line of defense. Have your guns pre-aligned in the intended direction of firing with Ctrl-X (don;t forget to release them when firing with Ctrl-X again), think ahead. Profit from all of the above. Mogami is at best good, but since the patches She's lost quite a good amount of superiority since the 155 mm lost their punching power from longer ranges. I don' know. She's Okayish. Ugly. And Okayish. Not particularly better than Myoko.
