The entire ship is pretty much an engine in a destroyer, so it feels natural

Well you see the trick is not to get hit :p. HE will wreck DDs. Watch out for cruisers mainly, In my kuma i smash DDs fairly quick

Well regardless of any tactics not to get hit, the amount of engine crits is still ludicrously high

Eh look at the size of a DD. If you get hit, i would expect to take severe damage. Plus most people end up shooting near the back of a DD. No amour means a HE shell will do full damage to your poor little engine

At the moment I just cant imagine to grind the US DD line with those short range Torps. Atm the only way for me is the IJN DD line. And there I will stay at tier 5.

I get it in Cruisers as well and rudder damage. I have played these ships all in Closed beta and it didn't happen so why make it happen now?

I have to say I'm getting it alot too, far more then normal, maybe because we are all at the low tiers they can't take the hits as well and we've forgotten how fragile they are?

I never got past tier 6 and it is happening in tier 4 now so I don't think its that.

This is a game and not real life, and we are still essentially in a testing phase and we have just had a new patch, the OP opens a thread about a potential problem and you respond with this?

 

I agree with him, crits IMO seem to have gone up a lot in this patch whatever ship you are in.

Fully agree that it seems to be happening alot more than it used to in CBT. Just now had a game in the Gremyatchy (spellin, I know). Got hit by another DD, engine taken out. Repair, got hit two seconds later, engine out again. Smoke and miraculosly take the DD out with a lucky torp. Sit still in tje smoke waiting for repair to be back up, fix it and five seconds later, before even getting up to speed, hit again, engine out. Cruiser shooting at me gets distracted and once again I'm lucky and survive waiting. This time the engine lasts for far longer, maybe 20 seconds, before being taken out again.

Sure, don't get hit, everyone playing a DD knows that. But it does happen, and when the engine is taken out there's no way anymore to avoid being hit. And judging by what I've seen since yesterday, being hit must have a 50%+ risk of engine failure. So on top of all the other problems a DD player has to deal with now with the nerfs, you also need to make sure you are not hit, ever since every hit has a fifty-fifty chance of ending your game right away.

You know, as a beta tester you are expected to report things that seems unbalanced or strange to you. It's not about taking offence, it's about you not being here to play a completed game where you just accept things the way they are, you are here to test and if things are not ok then there's a real chance of them being fixed in the final product.

Well, when you try to close to 4.5 km to torp someone, they (and all their friends) will throw everything they have at you while trying not to piss themselves in fear of your torps. So yeah, you will get hit and your engine will get taken out a lot unless you manage to get in while they are distracted or while you are hidden.

Maybe there is also one  thing: now we are all people with experience so is very hard to use low tier DD to ambush captain with a big experience of torpedoes and dd tactics.

I have always felt the same. Short range torpedoes are useless as it stands unless you want to earn a quick death or lose most of your HP's .

But USN destroyers arent as bad as IJN ones. They get long range torpedoes eventually but shimakaze doesnt get good guns. Oh also USNDDs might seem to have less consealment but that isnt true. They get better the higher they go and at tier 10 both sides get same consealment
