Had a win today whilst on convoy defence duty

Sunk all their ships, we didn’t lose any

BB’s hiding behind islands, CL’s rushing in and being dev struck, subs sitting at the back…..this is why I don’t play randoms anymore. At least in ranked the pain is over quicker for the losing side

I enjoy convoy and have seen some brilliant play but also some terrible pants on head stuff as well

The transports are utterly idiotic. It would be nice to be able to issue basic commands to them such as "Stop sailing into point blank range and broadside to a Battleship you morons"

My experience with "convoy" is as well mainly positive. In fact, apart from one or two battles the rest was far over average when compared to "Random".

Hi all,

I finished the grind for Santander in about 30 battles in "Convoy"... it was fast and painless... but I don't think that "glass cannon" PanAm cruisers will attract me to play them more...

Subs tend to be T8 exclusive

Lucky you, I've seen more than a few Gato's and German tier X .

CV numbers do seem lower than ransoms?

Do you play T10 in convoy? Based on my personal experience this seems to attract more subs, especially the T10 ones.

CVs are limited in Convoy because they are just way less effective. Spotting is less important, people stick together more with overlapping AA, many use secondary ships/builds with the side effect of more flak and the games are shorter by default. They are also more of a gamble with attacking/defending as the attacking CV can just skidaddle while the defending CV is basically robbing his team of an escorting ship/target. Some people will probably suffer from severe mouth foaming upon hearing this, but CVs are just not strong in Convoy, especially compared to randoms.

There is also no reason to play them except grinding, which limits them to T8. They get a base XP penalty and the Convoy exclusive missions rely on that, so why play the T10 ones.

I'm wondering if others have had the same experience -- every convoy I have been in (7 so far) -- the team guarding the convoy has won.   Does that mirror your experiences?

Funny..

I was gonna write a post about how you always win when ATTACKING  the convoy! :Smile_teethhappy:

I have lost 4 times in a row when guarding, but then again I have just lost when attacking so I am starting to think there is A constant in my matches...just trying to figure out what that is...:Smile_trollface:

Well... you'll get focused, hard.  Which is OK if you're in a DD, but that means unwanted attention from subs/CVs. It's an awkward team line up, too. VIII - X means an awkward mix of people grinding current lines (bringing ships you wouldn't take into something like Ranked) and maximum dakka Tier Xs. What ships can you bring to tank that level of fire?

Now that people have slightly learned how to play the mode, attackers have a massive advantage.

It doesn’t matter what mode or operation etc that WG comes up with the core issue of player ability and match maker will always remain until WG finally hold their hands up, admit they’ve royally screwed up  and correct all the game failings, and we all know that’ll never happen, as for the return of convoy (a previous favourite), I don’t like it there’s no real tactics and is similar to a co op game rush in and blap away.

Interesting...

I want the red team to focus on me, that is the whole point of the escort game mode. I normally dies towards the end, but tanked avg 2.5 million potential damage in BB or cruisers. You don’t play for kills or damage in escort games. Like in Aegis, you want the red ships shoot you at the end so all the transports make it to the end for 5 stars, it doesn’t matter if you are died from drawing fires from the bots, its better than stayed at the back farming on the 3 BBs.

Most all players don’t understand this SIMPLE concept. You see time and time again the defending team out numbers the attackers at the end, but lose due to playing like random just to farm damage and kills and are out of position to defend the transports.

Couple of examples in the yamato and venezia. Died at the end, but got to waste lots of time and shells from the red team. We won both games. P.S. seems WG don't want to spend any money on this server hosting the forum, can't even upload a simple 300kb screenshoot!

Actually not disagreeing. And the worst thing? The trash CVs. Not even talking about the BB queue....

Game is too short for CV, I had 6 mins game in convoy while playing CV. That class is an opportunist, needs time to become impactful.

Given a reasonable level and not too great an inequality in skill across both teams, convoy escorts basically don't have a chance. They have to push hard into a single, predictable spot, they don't have a lot of time and even if they stomp the opponents, they still have to make sure a bunch of essentially defenseless ships survive. The best chance they have is to send all of their force to the easiest to push flank and forget everything else, but that's hard to coordinate in a random environment where a large percentage of players is basically incapable of playing the game on a basic level. Even then, the side attacking the convoy can simply counter by total focus on the goal area and that's pretty much it.

Maybe with random and unknown to the defenders end goals the escorting team might have more of a chance. Or maybe both teams could have their own cargo ships and getting them to targets would give you points, but that's more like the dirgybirgyderpy thing.

I like the idea of Convoy and I like WG adding game modes instead of carriers and submarines, but convoy as it is now has fairly serious balancing problems.

I completely agree, but everytime I've played it since the first rotation it was a series of local melees and blow the tactical side of things. Not a lot of fun.

I think it would be more balanced if the attacking team don't know the routes of the transports.

Coming back to PvP, different game mode, same time wasting hopeless MM. What's more FUN than have the match decided BEFORE you clicked battle?

Had exactly this in operations today, when unlocking modules on my tier 8s.

So many people seem to think protecting the transport ships means using them as meat shields. So they can farm a pitiful amount of damage before the mission is totally failed, finishing of course bottom on XP, vs those few who played to protect the ships and died before them.

There is a Discord server for Operations, join us if wish to play in division in the evenings. It's a fun and relaxed way to grind ships than random.

But be warned, your blood pressure might go up as you see all your kills get stolen by me the last moment! As @VenividiviciNL suffers every time he plays with me!" :Smile_veryhappy:
