T9 cruiser wise (which I'd rather get than a T10 for credit making purposes) there's Carnot and Tulsa which are both hard passes for me. Then we've got Z-44 on dd side, which is a pretty mediocre ship just by looking at it's stats. Still this manages somehow to be my top pick because: Black and Neustrashimy. Both look fun and pretty good actually, but the price is downright crazy and my coupon has been already spent. With coupon though, I'd totally get one of those. Also I could use a german captain trainer, so there's that. The coupon should only be used for a Coal ship, if you cannot afford to use it on a steel ship before it expires. Even without a coupon, the Black and Neustrashimy are very interesting DDs and both very capable at doing their job. The Neustrashimy is a bit harder to play, since it requires more discipline and foresight. The Z-44 is a nice casual DD. It dumps masses of torpedoes and doesn't require too much effort to yield results. The current meta however sees lots of DD-hunters. The Z-44 struggles to defend itself in a 1v1-situation. So I'd spare the extra coal and get a Black first. The Black is a slightly strong ship. Wargaming has a history of removing stronger ships. In that regard, the Z-44 will never get removed and you can buy her at any time. You don't need a german captain trainer. EliteCXP is international. So you need to max your commander on the T9-ship and then you generate EliteCXP that you can use to promote any commander or any nation you see fit. 8 hours ago, ReverendFlashback said: T10 cruisers... eh. Maybe Yoshino but I've already got 3 japanese premiums for captain training and it does not really shell out cash like a T9 would. The only other T10 I'd be interested in would be Forrest Sherman. Forrest Sherman seems like a pretty good ship and I enjoy smoke farming but not the american tech tree. Again, not a bb player. I don't like their cruisers, but their dds. Problem is, FS is a lousy captain trainer for those. You are a rather new player. As such you will need to build your economy. Nobody can tell you what the future will bring. But I'm sceptical. I feel a good old T9-premium ship is still the best insurance to keep up economy-wise. So forget the T10-ships for now. Get a T9-ship. 8 hours ago, ReverendFlashback said: The upcoming "releases" don't interest me as much either. Maybe Groningen, but I did not play dutch ships at all so far and would end up with a overleveled captain on a untouched line... Might take months too, until they are there for coal. Groningen is still available for 1M FXP, right? Get her now, BEFORE she is moved to Coal. For FXP she is a must have. 8 hours ago, ReverendFlashback said: Feels like i can only do wrong tbh... So, get overprized Neustra or Black without coupon, Z-44 which is mediocre, or Sherman which fails in other categories? No you can't go wrong. All these ships can be fun. However looking back on my life, I regret not getting some things I felt were overpriced at the time. I rather have one good ship in port than 10 mediocre ships. That means, I would get the Black or Neustra over the Z-44, even if the latter is cheaper. You can't put a price on a win. Black wins battles, get Black.

Heavy Cruisers are a bit better, but I rather play Japanese, Russian or Germans over those. That's fair. In that case, I will draw your attention to Vallejo, who plays differently from all other US cruisers ( but, yes I know, it's not a coal ship). Quote I've been talking about the skill that gives 20% extra range, which is usefull when out of smoke given its good ballistics. One is called "Expert", the other one "Specialist". ButI totally don't wonder how to mix up those. And you don't need the range either, 12,6 km is more than enough range to comfortably play this DD: you have your smoke and you can abuse islands. This aint an open water gunboat spammer with Ragnar or Smaland proficiency. So I still don't see why you would need that skill.

Black is really crazy expensive given it needs the radar upgrade too, which makes an extra ~12k coal on top. Probably going for sherman first and getting Black somewhere in june or july. That seems more reasonable. Totally agree, I have a lot of special upgrades laying around so I will just move it from somewhere, since it will give more "Bang for Buck" on Black than much else. So I will just use coupon to get the high coal price of Black down some. Sherman is always a great pick, such fun and powerful boat. just shouldn't play as much DD role in it, its more like an OP smaller version of a Smolensk. Played as a DD you will probably not get much fun and power out of it.

Bazan seems like a great powerful DD. Been looking at a lot of Flambass videos on it, seems like it can be a fierce DD hunter killer.

So, get overprized Neustra or Black without coupon, Z-44 which is mediocre, or Sherman which fails in other categories? Black is solid and always has been. Puts enemy DD players on the back foot right from the start. Radar and smoke is a stupid combo and WG refuse to stop doing it (£££). Torps hit hard and reload fastish, but are slow (sea mines), throw and forget like the Sims. The DPM, speed and handling is alright but doesn't have speed boost (if you pick the radar which you should 100%). Has the long smoke to fall back on if you wanna do some light spamming or provide it for someone else to do it. Sherman is a spam boat that can slap DDs/CL. I hate its non DD gameplay but it is what it is and when done well, it's fantastic. The longer range hydro can not be underestimated for hill and anti smoke work. I take it out from time to time but really needs a Div mate/spotter to get the most out of it. It's sluggish and handles like brick. Don't like to see more than one on my team as I know caps with remain with the enemy. I actually prefer the freisland more at tier 9 due to the much better fire starting potential, minus the smoke. Neuatra is the DD punch bag that has average everything else except concealment which is great. It has its uses, but it's not a true DD killer or an out and out torp boat. It's meant to take a beating for your own team to kill whatever it out spots and outlasts. It wins games by taking that intial beating but relies on the player to understand that and to not get completely overwhelmed suiciding.. Your still only a DD. But most players DONT wanna get hit and play is very passive. If you play it like that then there are lots of other DDs that do that job much better. It's a teamplay ship which is another issue as how many times do you see actual teamwork outside of CBs and Divs?? Z-44 is the poor man's Benham. Not a bad ship per say, but not a great ship IMHO, some say otherwise. Its sat in the pool of torp boats and they are ten to a penny. For what it does, its OK. The only player I have seen do well in it is @Europizzawhen he was riding the CG wave. All boils down to YOUR playstyle. I'm a cap contesting DD hunter by heart so the Black is top of that list for me by far. Z-44 would be the last pick as I find Torp boats boring. Sherman would be second due to its random and more so Div potential and the Neuatra would be my 3rd place 'meh' ship. Would only play it in Divs with people I can rely upon. I also don't think it's anywhere near worth the coal, unlike the Black which is still steep, but worth it (just). You pay a price for it.
