Best ship for achieving fastest "Main battery hits" missions?

It's a pretty common mission I think. So far I've been using the T7 Helena specifically to pacify that missions ASAP which features 5X3 mains with an 8.5 second reload which stood out for it's number of mains and reasonably ok'ish reload but I've never actually explored other ships which might have fewer guns but might actually average more main battery hits due to a much faster reload and maybe also a better range combo etc.

What ship due you guys think or know that does the best job at pumping out the most amount of main battery shells... per minute? per 30 seconds? Kinda depends on how long the target lasts too but obviously we'd be using the shell type that deals the least amount of damage to each particular target and aiming and parts that take the least damage and non-pens since it's all about trying to rack up as many main battery strikes and not about trying to deal damage and actually kill the target.

What you want is high RoF / low Pen on a ship with decent survivability, so low calibre CLs with smoke screens tend to be best. DDs cop too much aggro - even in PVE. So really we're talking Harbin, Atlanta, Flint, Smolensk, etc. I would say Harbin or Flint are the best, you can easily get 200+ hits in a PVE game. But there's nothing wrong with Mogami 155, Cleveland, Boise / NdJ, either - or Helena, as you've been playing (her lack of heal is a disadvantage, but still a good ship).

T8-T10 IJN Dakka line DDs are my silver line go-to pick, especially the T9-T10.

Colbert, Druid, Mino, Smolensk, Friesland, F. Sherman, Harugumo, Jinan, Marceau & Smaland (though it's harder for these two, as they can't smoke up to farm in peace).

Austin is also respectable, if you get to use the booster a few times. Nevsky too, because she can keep up the brrrrt even at long range.

Smolensk was made for this job.

I went with Smolensk in co-op.

purely for the 16 shells outputting each time.  Went with AP, and just fired at BB coming in.

one game got over 400 hits.

if I did not have her would be using Minotaur.

previously also used cleveland when got bored with smolensk.

Wooster is very good,  12 guns with 4.6 seconds reload

Also Mino, 10 guns of 3.2 seconds

but my favorite for that task is Jinan - also 10 guns of 3.2 seconds, but Mino kills them faster. And your goal is to spray them longer. Coop, AP from the smoke, look for BBs.

Minotaur is my goto ship to put a dent in those missions - 10 shells every 2.8 sec (diff is probably range / reload mod).

I got well over 850 main battery hits in co-op once. :cap_rambo:

Just resist the  urge to use torps.

Honourable mentions are Atlanta, Groningen, Nurnburg, Des Moines, Harugumo, Cleveland, Cossack.

I'd use Woostie & the PA CLs more if I had a perma-bonus on them.

I'm using my Friesland (alternative: Groningen) or Kitakaze for this purpose. My record is somewhat around 430 hits in 1 coop game.

When I was still caring for missions, Harugumo in Coop was fast and easy. 400-600 hits per game on average, depending on how inept your teammates are.

Sadly you'd need to whip out calculator if you want to math-based suggestions and then you'd need to account for ballistics - so what Atlanta delivers rainbow of shells, when you need Mayan calendar to lead the shots. Though from quick off-my-head recommendations you can't go wrong with Akizuki line (160-200 rounds per minute base), Colbert (282), Smolensk (213) would be prime picks as well, honorable mentions to Minotaur (187) and Worcester (156). That said, ballistics on these leave something to be desired in usual random combat engagement ranges, so Nevsky might prove more consistent in that regard making up deficiencies in dakka with consistency?

BB wise : Shiny, KGV, FDG, Republique.

FDG?!? You mean, on the receiving side or how?

23s reload with 406mm and main guns reload upgrade puts her rather high in "I want as many main battery hit ribbons with me ship" and you're still determined to use BB.

That said, Sherman volume of fire isn't THAT high, only 120 rounds/min. Sure, it can be consistent and effective volume of fire due to improved ballistics and SAP, but slightly misses the mark of the OP.

The small number of actual gun barrels works against her in this regard, yes.

Still, she faces stiff competition from her tech tree sibling, Des Moines without bringing that much to the table on her own. Awkward turret layout also is a hindrance most of the time, on top of infamous ballistics.

Sherman

Kleber

Mogador

Marceau

Khabarovsk

Harugumo

Smolensk

is my first picks

Their are some other cruisers like Colbert but then you have to account for survivability and not get clapped the first 5 min
