Game crashed, then I get back on and get two kills. Still penalised....

The game crashed early on so I had to restart, when I got back I was amazed to still be alive.

 

Turns out that it would have been better to die! 

WG penalised me.

 

This system needs to be a bit smarter.

I was in middle of operation and I must go for a moment because courier arrived. I heard doorbell so I hide my ship. After battle I saw:

Seriously stupidity of this system is beyond any recognition, what kind of imbecile could design something like that? So going by this "logic" if I must go for a moment I should autopilot my ship in biggest swarm of enemys to avoid losing boosters and income? Am I right? Very good and healthy for teamplay! Instead of being alive in battle. "Sorry guys, I have postman ringing a doorbell and if I leave game for minute or two I lost my income and boosters so I must yolo at enemys. Don't be so sad. I hope we win. Sorry guys." But I would definitely do that. Lesson learned.

 

Red captexp and fexp boosters btw.

Leaving the game because the baby cries or the courier is at the door or your wife screams at you while waving a roller pin are all acceptable und unexpected things why to afk. That happens, you can't prevent it.

But I do not really agree that you shouldn't get the afk punishment, because - you know, basically you afk'd.

Game crashes are a double edged sword, because you're not afk'ing per se, you're trying to get into the game as fast as possible (usually to find yourself sunk).

On the other hand one can argue that you're responsible to have a clean installation and working components, but I feel that the punishment in a crash situation is really adding insult to injury.

 

Also a false positive is always the price to pay for a system like this and tbh, the amount of players that afk from the start - usually deep red and/or pink DDs - haven't changed much in my impression. Maybe @Seraphice can share numbers on the effectivness of the measure?

And while we're at it, does the "report AFK" have any influence in this punishment? Does that report even work beyond a -1 Karma?

Yeah, in the old days things were better in this regard too. Whether you came back after a DC and if your ship was still afloat you could resume the battle, have an impact on the battle and reap the possible rewards. Now I guess WG wants to just quit if anything unexpected occurs, whether something technical or something in real life. It's like they are telling you to find something better to do....

Now... that is interesting. Apart from a DC or a real life situation, what other possible reasons are there for being afk?

 

Personally, for me... well there's the alt tabbing during deployment which I sometimes do, mostly with the slower ships on the lower tiers, not really on the high tiers because that can be... deadly. A bigger cause for me being afk is the long queue times, I don't facy staring at a clock for minutes waiting for the queue to pop, so I alt tab to the forum or somewhere else. May even be physically afk for a minute or two while waiting.

Alt Tab and forget they started a game?

Start the game and then go for an extended sitting?

Narcolepsy?

 

 

The first item on the list and the only one that I consider to be reasonably plausible could be solved with that simple mod that plays game sounds when alt tabbed - but WG: "Nah man, let's introduce an unneccessarily complicated penalty system".

This crappy client is the only game I get pc issues with, I had 3 game client errors causing blue screen of death yesterday after each other, had to force pc restart and game makes me pink for their crap game.  No other game do i get blue screens of death or have issues.  I firmly believe their testing is crap.  Every patch brings more issues.  I often get game hang on startup and never load, have to terminate process.


 

meanwhile their overpaid and over populated marketing dept never has a problem bringing out more crappy tokens and boxes… they always works well… odd that!
