Hi all,

Let's openly discuss the biggest problem in WoWs - the absolute player base rock bottom degradation / decay...

This is my "Brawl" 5 vs. 5 Tier X Cruisers experience from 2023.01.04. & 2023.01.05. & 2023.01.06. & 2023.01.07. :

And yes.... if I kill 2-3 ships per game I can carry my team to victory... but that is beside point... the point is terribad player base even with players with tens of thousands of Random games played... :Smile_sad:

What can be done?

Can WG introduce some training missions for players to learn basics (proper aiming, proper positioning, proper reading minimap)?

It's too late to change anything. WG never cared about educating the player base, whatever they'll try now will be a day late and a dollar short.

My occasional peeks into the game have left me with the impression that the decrepit state of WoWs, WG and their clueless customers are perfectly matching each other.  :Smile_popcorn:

The decay started when they released on steam, cos instead of people actually interested in naval warfare searching for this game any numpty now gets a message "hey, try this free to play game" not helped by the fact that steam players get lots of free stuff that us "originals" don't get.

And then the pandemic made it worse and it's just been on that slippery slope from there, not helped by idiot decisions to dumb down the game by adding the crutch classes (that a person has to have minimal interaction with cos they are automated or have a button that then makes them invisible and invulnerable whilst allowing them to still deal damage, oh and one of them gets a base xp boost too) and superships that you need to earn your manna to use your special abilities.

these last 3 weeks are always bad this time every year as all the glue eaters have finished cleaning their windows with their tongues and have come to hear the big guns to boom whilst they have time off work.

TBH i don't think even adding such training missions will help as the players that want to improve will search for YT vids etc to make themselves better and those that just want to look at the purdy boats and hear the booms are not interested in improving themselves and so won't do the missions or will just follow the instructions complete it and learn nothing and go right back to how they were before.

This is the type of people WG want, people that just don't care too much will just consume the product that is given to them without making a fuss and buy the premium ships they want and then get board and leave for the next cookie cutter mobile game experience

Keep in mind that there is TOO much missions in the game that people need to finish to get some rewards. So instead of playing the game they are grinding the game.

Best example is brawl. Win X number of missions to get rewards. So people just grind those games and not enjoying them. Where then you get quantaty instead of quality, same things in random.

Even i catch myself grinding some stupid missions to catch up with dockyard mission instead of playing the game.

Also as someone said, "free to play games" are the worst.

I would rather pay 50 euros to buy WoWs then that its free to play. Then you would filter a lot of bad players, in this way anybody can come and play.

Unfortunatly things wont get better only worse, but its the same in every game not just WoWs.

Deinstall Monitor, so you dont have to see it.

@Leo_Apollo11 we have gone through all this before mate.

Don't beat yourself up and come to peace with it. If you can't then need to move on, but I don't think your their yet.

It's the pits, we know this but WG don't give a stuff. Steam like someone has already said was a massive thumb in the eyes to the quality of the game but that was one out of many.

Quility can get the 🐦 y, quantity is what matters to WG. Its a very Russian thing.

What is this? I thought only dunning kruger players got bad team mates and good enemies.

Seriously though. WG has had the chance to do something about it by introducing rewards and missions aimed at rewarding players for being learned, but haven't. I have my doubts that they ever will.

The downfall of this game isn't lack of player education, it's a different focus from your (and my) expectations. These people don't care much about improving skills probably, they care about expanding their assets, hoarding, grabbing. The downfall of this game, a playerbase of incompetent hoarding windowlickers, has been carefully grown and curated by WG's Lesta.

Nice idea. But I´m afraid, average player doesn´t want to learn. He wants to have fun, sail with his ship, watch the graphic, sometimes click the mouse button.

I think that most players do not even read main updates articles.

Nothing will ever happen because it's counter intuitive to what WG wants, which is making money (and I totally get that) but unfortunately the game and "normal"/skilled player base will pay the price. WG doesn't want to exclude the average glue eater and villige idiot from playing T10-11 or the competitive parts of this game, like brawls, ranked etc, because they want them to suck in these modes and then instead of trying to learn the game and get better at it, they instead throw money at WG to try and buy some skill with higher tiers ships, premiums, premium time, BS Loot boxes and other scams which skilled players usually have more common sense to avoid.

This is also why CVs are WGs protected class, because players who can't git good at this game need an own "Speashuul" class thats broken/OP so they also can feel skilled in games as well.

Thats why im only playing Randoms. You get your glue eaters and village idiots there as well, but with 12 vs 12 teams they get more diluted, and it is easier to just shrug off. Thats said Randoms have had a steady decline over that last years so the facepalm teams you could get before during weekends and on holidays are more common in the weekdays as well. We all love those 6 min 12-0 blowouts according to holy spreadsheets.

Regardless of what *can* be done, I don't think much *will* be done: it's counter to WG's financial interests to try and improve the quality of the player base:

  • I'm not good at the game; I was merely 'average' (and only barely) when I withdrew from Randoms, and it took - in gaming terms - a long time, and was (comparatively-speaking) a lot of work to get there. I could have probably made my life easier by not playing as wide a range of ships, but my low boredom threshold precluded that.
  • If we take me - and my 'average' standard - as a lowish minimum aspiration for quality (I wasn't even winning half the time overall), and the time/effort it took me to get there as similarly average then we see why WG won't be keen to try and nudge people in a similar direction: it's too much work/time for most punters, and if they push the bulk of people too hard in that direction, the bulk will give up (and, crucially from WG's perspective, stop spending).
  • Basically - IMO - WG had a choice: either a niche game with a small number of better dedicated players, or a much more popular game where the bulk of players suck (but which also generates a lot more money); I imagine we all see which one they chose.

Look at this, dude in TIER 10 ship has done 1 EXP,  O N E exp, and he was not afk, he was moving. The rest I wont even comment, the battle ended so fast I didnt even had a chance to do something nad one again this is i HIGH TIER BATTLE!

This feels like a BOT CO OP game, where YOU play with bots not players.

This is sad.

No, bots are better, check  bots in COOP games, they get more than 1 XP.  I checked, the worst T5 bot in one COOP game had 29 XP. :Smile_facepalm:

This will only hide the problem and I prefer to know... :Smile_honoring:

BTW, denstalling the monitor will not prevent (for example) Moskva in "Brawl" 5 vs 5 to start radar the 1st second the game  begins and then rush to center and die withing first 60 seconds essentially crippling the team (20% HP gone in an instant)... :Smile-angry:

I don't even really care if players are bad nowadays, since most are. What I find infuriating is players that either are bad bots, or knowingly grief their teams. These kind of players appear in matches daily, if you just play more than couple games.

For example yesterday there was a sub player in my team who at first was afk for like 5 minutes. After he started moving, he never moved at full speed. He moved towards the enemy just enough to get in range (tier8 German so 12km or so?), shot all tubes, turned around and moved back couple kilometers. Never pinged, missed all shots, never fired torps again. Rest of the match he was again afk. Still he got more experience than worst player in our team, who arguably did more since he managed to get killed. And since that sub bot earned experience, he will never get punished by WG (cause let's face it, reports only work on chat offenses). Likely he will do this same in next game, and next game, and next game.
