Going by the easily available ship stats Hyuga is 1st by a large margin followed by Hood down low and Ashitaka is almost bottom, barely making it above tech tree Colorado and Nagato. Interesting.

I have both and I find both very good, definitely above-average for me:

They have good armor for their tier, but Hyuga is more of an early-game ship as her broadside and MBRB allow to nuke careless cruisers, establishing a lead. Hood has the speed to stay more relevant as the game progresses, as well as the AA to shoot down planes get some xp while the CV bullies her.

Granted, the Hood has better gun handling and much more overmatch value against same and lower-tier ships, but it mostly comes down to how well you're going to make use of her agility to help the team in drawn-out matches.

On a personal note, I appear to still have the Hood xp record across all servers (from 2 years ago: I guess she's not very popular), which is also my highest xp game out of 30k+, so I recommend her for...sentimental reasons

Spoiler

(of course, that includes the premium time modifier)

I'm pretty rubbish in BBs, but I get the impression that Hyuga is the more idiot-resistant of the trio i.e. you have to make a bit more effort to mess up badly in her; the other two require more competence to do well with?

Find Hyuga and Ashitaka do well in ops, Ashitaka is perhaps the better of them however this is very much down to getting the right op for the ship

Hood not so much

If you switch to the top 5% of all WoWs players Ashitaka jumps to 3rd place. Hyuga is still top though.

I have had both Hood and Hyuga.

Hyuga has, as has been mentioned, smaller guns, but these are more numerous.

However, you don't get many reload boosters, and when they're gone, those guns are a lot less attractive.

She's also slower and less manouverable than Hood, and has less HP.

Hood will also flat-out murder cruisers, even partially angled.

She is a highly dangerous flanker. Get her flinging broadsides at you, you know your team has messed up.

Hood has been one of my most played ships. I like her a lot.

On the other hand, I sold my Hyuga.

Maybe I'll buy her back one day. But I've no plans at the moment.

I'd go for Hood.

None of those. Ashitaka is the best BB on tier. Basically Amagi just with less armor. Best guns on tier

The Hood was never a consideration for me it just didn't tick the boxes for what I'd look for in a BB nor found them fairing well in any battle I've fought against them but that could have been down to noobs at the helm.

I did however, get the Hyuga after much consideration between it and the Ashitaka which is another BB I'd probably like to get in due time with enough free doubloons. It's easy for me to say the Hyuga is a great BB but I haven't played it very often and only in random battles so far I think. That has nothing to do with the ship, I just prefer some T8 and T10 BB's right now for regular play but if I had to play a T7 BB it would definitely be the Hyuga since it's not just strong but also fun.

Looking at the stats I've played only 11 battles with it but already the power of this ship is clear with a 72% win rate and averaging 94K damage per battle which is more than plenty manage to get from their T10 BB's let alone a T7, suggesting it's high win rate is more than just a lucky small sample size.

It takes a little adjusting to compared to some other BB's I've played that had a more generic offering to what I normally like in a BB. The shells drop shell velocity at range so a little more lead is needed and due to it's "weaker than some" penetration at range it needs some target awareness and honing in on the nose, superstructure or rear of some ships along with a little more cruiser focusing. That's a quick adjustment though especially with the reload booster giving a few extra salvos to hone in that muscle memory. Also, it has a lot of guns with a decent fire chance at a tier where ships are not especially fire resistant so don't be afraid to load some HE if the targets are a bit too tough to crack with AP. The reload booster makes that tactic a particularly nasty surprise once you wait for the target to put out those initial fires. Just pop the reload booster and rain fire down on them, though looking to hurt choice targets with AP would always be my preferred play and exploit of the reload booster rather than slinging HE, it's just an option for some situations.

The ships speed is a bit slow out of the box which is something I wouldn't enjoy but it's just about ok, not tragic like a US BB. I've mostly rectified that by running the ship with a Sierra Mike and "Brisk" skill on the commander which brings it closer to 30kts which is quick enough.

Overall server stats are a pretty decent insight into a ships strength and the Hyuga is one of the best and the Hood is one of the worst and I would say that's about right from fighting against both and playing the Hyuga myself. Obviously opposite ends of the player skill spectrum will either flatter or do a ship injustice but the thing about premium ships is their stats tend to be a more accurate insight into those ships once enough of a sample size of battles has been established for both since they're stand alone ships and not a tech-tree grind through which may muddy the water so to speak since tech-tree ships will often be played as just a grind-through with many of those battles played in sub-optimal offerings with stock modules with less gun range and less HP and less agility etc than they will eventually become once they're fully researched whereas premiums are as good as they're going to get straight out the box.

Both are crap. I hade such a desire to buy Hyuga (already had Hood) but both do not worth spent doublons for them. If you do not have KII save your doublons or your Coal for it.

I am deeply disapointed by Hyuga's performance,. In game ships like Rooke are much better.
