Pan-American cruisers, what is the point?

New devblog dropped. See below. So, you're creating a line of ships that:

 

-Have very light armour

-Small caliber weapons

-AP only, with improved ricochet angles

-Surveillance radar

-Enhanced repair party

 

...so you're basically recreating the RN CL line with a twist, based on American hulls? Why does this line exist?

It is of course free but you can get them earlier by spending money. Many players do that and the early release events always seem to sell well.

9 km radar with 25s duration and 180s cooldown, lol.

Even if you can reduce that cooldown, it's still a very sh*t radar.

The line will have to have even higher dpm and conceal than Mino to be worth it in that case, but that's still not really adding anything new in that case, just more of the same.

Gimmick found on supershit battleships.

 

Basically you're loading mana before you can do magic salvo, though IIRC PanAm cruisers will get temporary speed bonus?:cap_tea:

That's not my point... Though I acknowledge my point was not clearly stated.

 

My point is that the changes they have made to the pan-American line - very significant changes - completely alter the character of the line so that it's very similar to the RN CL line.

 

I don't understand why they did this, as what they already had was more distinctive. I guess they will have their own gimmick in the combat instructions, but these changes still baffle me.

Pretty simple. They had no idea what to do, but wanted to cater to the Latin American markets. So they decided to go with some ship models that can reuse assets from existing ships, to safe on modelling costs. Game balance and plausability of the ships be damned. Now, they will try anything to make them somewhat playable, even if it means overthrowing the concept of the whole line several times.

That's a pretty sad state of affairs, especially considering how they've treated LatAm ships before (i.e. clones like Jurua, Nuevo de Julio and Rio de Janeiro).

I can see some key differences from RN CL:

 

- Worse radar, no smoke

- Access to Spotter for easier island-camping (something that really bugs me on the USA lines is that for some reason you have to sacrifice the catapult for radar even though they're basically designed to be played as floating mortars)

- Long-CD superheal with more charges

- The Combat Instructions will occasionally make them stronger and more survivable (when not camping an island waiting for your heal to recharge)

- Apparently the shell arcs will be flatter?

- A lot fewer torps

 

I dunno, I'd at least try it. I don't know what this community wants sometimes, both complaining about reused stuff and screeching at new additions to the core gameplay.

They're just non smoke RN CL line with less air drag so the shells won't slow down that much like RN CLs do. So you can hit stuff on range. Basically like Vallejo. Plus they have those combat instructions and radar on higher tiers.

What is the point?
Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V some ship models.
Put some different gimmicks. 
Make early access event. 
Profit.

That is the point for WG, for us it is the hope that the different gimmick combination will bring fresh gameplay.

Ussualy 99% of forum crys like there is no tomorrow every time wg implement anything new. New ship, class, talents....cryiiiinnngggg

This is a deal breaker for me. Ships with only one ammo type are just too situational for my tastes.

I love my Plymouth though, because even while AP only, the toolkit is so large that she can do stuff other boats cant.

Not personally a fan of Mino though, because it feels somewhat limited at times.

So the gimmic got removed (Is saved for a premium / special ship (t10 premium for those not acknowledging that t10 are not premiums)
And we get Brits without smoke and torps.

 

Definitely not a deal breaker.

Good point. Makes sense from this perspective, with all of the "hurr durr this DD is specialised in killing light cruisers" they've added to the game, in a state of WOWS where almost no one plays light cruisers.
