[STRMO] ReverendFlashback Players 123 posts 4,005 battles Report post #1 Posted December 25, 2022 I've been toying around a bit with fitting tool and I'm quite uncertain what to do when I get mine. It's closest relative seems to be Rooke which I didn't play so far, but I've got the idea by looking at both ships values. Basically use your great concealment and speed to get to unexpected angles and try to catch some broadsides. In a pinch you can also yolo someone because of torps. The thing is: What does Renown 44 have over Rooke for that sneaky playstyle? The answer: Not much. A better turning radius and (way) better sigma. In every other aspect Rooke seems better for that. Renown, however, has twice the ammount of fish (with 2km more range iirc), drastically improved secondaries and hydro. Those secs are easily and by far the best you get on any T7 bb for fire starting. But their pen is actually very low. It seems kinda weird, but to me it looks like this is a battleship that excels at hunting it's natural enemies: Dds. The problem is getting the secondaries up to usefulness because their range utterly sucks and it's quite costly. Even assuming a 21 point commander (which I don't actually have) I always run out of skill points while theory crafting. Would like to try something like this: https://wowsft.com/ship?index=PBSB547&modules=11111&upgrades=122200&commander=PCW001&skills=13132034&ar=100&flags=130&consumables=1111&pos=0 But eh, no grease the gears on this ship, no improved heal, no basics of survivability... And then secondary range is still pretty bad even with flag. Most likely I'm not going to use manual secondaries and get something else instead... But what will you do once you got her? [RONIN] 22cm Beta Tester 6,377 posts 36,662 battles Report post #8 Posted December 25, 2022 This is the secondary setup I would do for it: https://wowsft.com/ship?index=PBSB547&modules=11111&upgrades=142100&commander=PBW101&skills=13131856&ar=100&flags=1410&consumables=1111&pos=0 The tech tree ship, Rooke, set for secondary looks better because it has 28 secondary guns compared with 20 for Renown44: https://wowsft.com/ship?index=PBSB207&modules=12121&upgrades=212100&commander=PBW100&skills=13132304&ar=100&flags=1410&consumables=1111&pos=0 The classic T7 secondary premium BB, Scharnhorst, has 1 km longer range secondaries with much better pen, but also 1 km bigger concealment. However, it has better brawling armor scheme: https://wowsft.com/ship?index=PGSB507&modules=11111&upgrades=212100&commander=PGW103&skills=13132304&ar=100&flags=1410&consumables=111&pos=0 It could work, the 4 single-launch torps can be launched in a harder to avoid pattern, but not as well as the Germans, and you should still angle when brawling, because you dont have the German armor and turtleback. It's on 19th stage so it'll be free even if you don't invest into it a penny. And it's a good ship, with decent torp range and accurate guns. You do you, better to get it now than in next year Santa crate instead of a T8 or 9.

You still end up with a measly 8.5km range and can only pen DDs... Just go with a standard BB build, maybe include Brisk and be done.

And I think good secondaries are a feature of this ship and I want to capitalize on it. I mean a standard bb build is pretty much usable on anything, but if you want to get the most out of it you should at least partially spec in secondaries and get their range up. [PTS] J0tt Players 200 posts Report post #13 Posted December 25, 2022 I just slot the standard modules according to the Google document and play it once for the snowflake. After that it will be buried until anniversary like all the other 'boring' ships. Not worth theorycrafting at all.

It has hydro, engine boost, usable secondaries, torps, great concealment and speed. Or in other words, a lot of stuff to work and have fun with...

I should have clarified: It's not worth theorycrafting for me because it's T7. I'm glad I'm out of there.

It's too big and has the wrong armour scheme for brawling. Its secondaries and torpedoes are a noob trap, and it doesn't have enough guns of a high enough calibre to give satisfying results with the main battery. Perhaps the BC line gets better at VIII/IX/X, but there's nothing worth keeping in the mid-tiers.

I also think you're looking at it from a wrong perspective, because it sounds like you're expecting some german like bb while this is rather a super cruiser made for AP slinging. The problem is that I already have French Battleships for that sort of thing, and that British BBs are generally disappointing and substandard in comparison.
