Ashitaka???

Just got this 'thing' from one of them veteran recruitment containers.

Haven't played it yet as my day was done with containers received and daily and weekly battle pass completed.

I don't think I've seen one of these in battle - is it that bad?

 

Do you have one? If so, thoughts?

Down tieired amagi.

 

Amagi guns slightly nerfed but still potent bearing in mind a lower tier.

 

if you like IJN BB line then probably won’t find her too bad.

 

however better t7 battleships to play I find so comes out for snowflakes at anniversary and Christmas.

In today's game it struggles quite a bit, those guns can hit like a truck, problem is getting into a position to use them. 

I've had some good games in it but not often enough to be a regular choice for me to use.

Ship has such a poor reputation that players ignore her, but few remember that she no longer carries Mutsu's defective AP grenades.

Just for information:

Nelson is the Tier VII BB with the highest winrating in the past 28 days, Ashitaka has the second best...

Its great great in operations those guns hits hard and usable secondaries too. Armour is same strength as a wet cardboard box. So expect to be hit in the citadel a lot if not careful

She has a similar armor layout to Amagi, which is Tier VIII.

The only difference should be the bow and stern platings.

I have played her quite a bit.

In short: unecessary to play her in random or operation if you have Amagi. An option for ranked, but not quite the best.

 

She has the same guns as Amagi, which are already very good at tier VIII, but with less range, and no access to spotter (or fighter).

The armour is way worse. Amagi's armour is nice at tier VIII, but Ashitaka's is fragile for her tier.

Some differences here and there on AA, maneuvrability etc. They don't matter much.

 

Comparatively to Amagi, when you are top tier (facing tier V), you are stronger than her. Having poor armour against these kittens doesn't matter much...

When bottom tier however, against tier IX, you will struggle to stay afloat. The guns are still very effective, but you'll need to be extra careful. Amagi on the other hand can handle herself against tier X just fine.

 

An Amagi that is an even bigger bully to bottom tier ships, but that can't tank anything when facing opponents her own size.

I'm overall very positive with Japanese premiums, but this one is in my "mediocre" list.

Seems excessively bad at concealment for its tier though, even Musashi can easily sneak up on her...

Amagi has a slight turtleback plus a huge torpedo protection piece that can catch shells which Ashitaka doesn't have. 

In that regard Ashitaka is closer to Kii than Amagi.

Ashitaka has god tier guns for t7, but really, really bad armour, and essentially lacks all AA. It doesnt have amagis ability to push, and you have trouble flanking in cv games. While I want to like the sh1taker, I just find it a frustrating ship to play.

The one bad thing about the Ashitaka is that I didn't buy the special skin with the economy bonus before the rework.

The ship is great, even when uptiered to T8.

Squishy Battlecruiser without AA and great guns. You can blap nose in Sinops for 20k and if anything shows broadside, oh boy... (unless dispersion)

The reviews are outdated, the crap ammo is gone (which was hilarious on it's own, you could get full pens on DDs at range).

 

Good when not uptiered, else she suffers. Outright illegal when downtiered. Best used in a kiting position. I use it with Yamamoto without concealment at all, at some point it's entirely ineffective, just dodge.

It was poop when released, poop survivability and poop guns (Mutsu guns) - But they gave it good guns (Amagi guns) awhile ago so now it's a glass cannon. If you value accuracy and firepower above all else it's worth playing. Above all else though, thing has no armor, no concealment, no AA, nothing, but you get T8 guns on a T7. Some people love this thing because T7 suffers anyway when bottom tier, might as well suffer even more but at least have excellent T8 guns to punch back. Expect to fold like a chair when you get focused even a little bit though.

You also have no manouevrability (terrible rudder shift) and terrible forward firing angles. It's a great ship at long range or when kiting away, but pushing in, it's almost impossible to bring all or even most guns to bear without exposing the ship's extremely vulnerable armour scheme.

 

Essentially Ashitaka gives up everything for the guns. And that payoff really hurts when it's bottom tier.

It's not a bad ship per se, but it is all about the guns, she can overmatch any tier 7 and below. So in ranked I used to use it here and there but for those good guns she has a few downsides.

 

Detection range is huge. No Armour. Armour is covered in Matchsticks and Petrol, and she is made out of citadels.

 

You really have to play a backline in her, you cannot tank and trade otherwise you will just get spanked. That said when the guns hit something, it hits like a truck. Think of it as a lower armoured and more vulnerable Amagi that can be seen from low earth orbit and play it accordingly. with a good team supporting you, it can devastate when top tier. Bottom tier its just an XP pinata.

That renders the saying almost completely irrelevant, when you can just freely sort the letters to your liking.
In that case: LOSE, ONE, SON, LONE, OLSEN, NO etc.
