[WP70] ________________Morrison Players 892 posts 22,465 battles Report post #1 Posted December 12, 2022 I've adopted the Wedge technique as I call it, where I wedge myself against an island waifu and wait for my enemy to get in range. How ever with this game being Snipergaming for the majority of the time. How do you play Salem? Leaving the safety of island wife results in rapid death. Getting impatient results in rapid death. Yamato or any large caliber bb on the other side of the map looking funny at you is a goood chunk of hp you'll never see again. Range mod isn't enough and leading at that range is a pain so I use reload. But 15.8km of range when everything sits in spawn how am I supposed to play? I thought this was a desmoins that can endure more pain. It's really indifferent it seems.
Panocek Players 13,176 posts 13,617 battles Report post #2 Posted December 12, 2022 By being more patient, so enemy gets frustrated and gets within your range first Also in the event of Domination maps, once you get the cap, there's no need to further chase the enemy, THEY need to take action otherwise they will lose the game.

Range mod works well for me. I also take hydro, as it is more useful than radar on Salem. Here is replay (with video) of battle where range mod worked quite nicely. https://replayswows.com/replay/168832#video

It's really indifferent it seems. The armor scheme is identical afaik. The superheal does wonders against fires and it's very useful against regular penetrations (3 of them are worth 5 or so of the regular consumable, in practice), but it doesn't change a thing against citadel hits and torps on the belt. Many high-tier cruisers, most of them light, can heal 50% of citadel damage instead of the usual 33%, but Salem doesn't take part in this exception. The point of this consumable imho is that you don't need to spend three points for Superintendent as much as on other cruisers: 3 charges of hydro/radar (especially this gimped radar) and 4 of Def AA are usually more than enough. Save the points for Survivability Expert, RPF, TGG, Heavy AP or more AA.

How do you play Salem? Salem/DM in 2022 is really a "Feast or Famine" ship. It depends heavily on the matchmaker and map if you're able to "play the game". Wrong map? CV? Subs? Lots of overmatch BBs? etc. etc. All negatively influence your ability to play the DM/Salem. In World of Sniperships its easier to play Hindenburg/Nevsky/Zao/etc., that just farm from max range.
