Here I will not make an offer on the game, here I will talk about the French aircraft carriers that may appear in the game, and aviation, and already YOU can suggest how the branch will look like from level 4 to 10 with a premium as well as their feature! (The truth is, of course, I’m not sure that the developers will see this, but at least everyone will write about their desires and suggestions here).

PLEASE, if you want to make a branch proposal, write exactly which ships you have chosen for this, what aircraft you offer them and what feature they have.

PA3(1930)

223225351_FrenchCVPA3.png.074cce59f0d6b16ccaa2915276912bdc.png

PA3 was to be a small carrier without the heavy artillery. From this design onwards no floatplanes should be carried on board making the ship a true aircraft carrier. The island followed more or less the design of PA1. The artillery, very likely dual purpose guns, was concentrated fore and aft the flight deck. Two lifts were thought to be enough for a ship of this size. All in all it seems that this design, although rather light, would have been a quite well balanced ship for service in the French Navy providing it with 4 carriers of this size within the limits of the Washington Naval Treaty.

PA4 was an enlarged version of PA3. Within the limits of the Naval Treaties only 3 ships of this design could have been built. With a higher top speed, however, this ship could have better operated together with the cruiser and big destroyers of the French Navy.

PA11 was an enlarged version of PA10. This was must have been put into a higher power of propulsion as the 1kn more in the top speed indicates. This top speed might have been necessary as the big destroyers of the French navy were designed with ever higher top speeds to counter the Italian’s light cruisers they would have been to fight against.

Joffre/Painlevé (1940)

Joffre_svg.thumb.png.8c2ecc8f9dd22ee6d3b4afabb8bde115.png

Joffre class consisted of a pair of aircraft carriers ordered by the Marine Nationale (French Navy) prior to World War II. The Navy had commissioned an experimental carrier in 1927, but it was slow and obsolete by the mid-1930s. Support for naval aviation in the navy was weak during this time as it had lost control of its aircraft, their training and their development to the new Air Ministry when it formed in 1928 and did not regain full control until 1936. Traditionalists among the naval leadership had begun a battleship building program in the early 1930s to counter German ships that were suitable for commerce raiding and carriers were deemed useful to hunt them down, especially once the Germans began building a carrier of their own in 1936.

A post-war design for a large fleet carrier. She would've been the largest aircraft carrier to be built by the French Navy and featured extensive protection of the flight deck and hangar as well as an impressive AA suite. She wasn't built due to lack of funds and a suitable dry dock to accommodate the hull.

PA 28 is a light aircraft carrier project of the French Navy. Developed in the late 1940s, the preliminary design was prepared by August 1947. The first ship of the project was planned to be laid down at the shipyard of the naval arsenal in Brest. It was to be called "Clemenceau". The design was based on the project of the Joffre aircraft carrier, which was unfinished due to the outbreak of World War II, but was significantly improved. In 1950, the project was closed at the stage of prototype development.

The Loire-Nieuport LN.40 aircraft were a family of French naval dive-bombers for the Aeronavale in the late 1930s, which saw service during World War II.

Loire-Nieuport LN.42(1940)

p1.thumb.jpg.6dcb830556a4ed5b8cfc6a029dafc058.jpg

In the previously created dive bombers LN.401 and LN.411, the lower part of the rudder was divided along the vertical axis into two parts using a hydraulic drive, turning in opposite directions perpendicular to the fuselage and slowing down the aircraft. If this did not work, then the fairings of the main landing gear, which were extended during a dive, took over the role of air brakes.
A similar problem was solved by the LN.42 (this designation was given to an improved dive bomber). In the new aircraft, the main landing gear retracted back into the wing with the wheels rotated 90 ° relative to the supports, so that the legs fit completely into the wing console. The main strut mounts and wheels were equipped with large flaps with separate hydraulic control and acted as brake flaps.

The latest modification of the basic Br.690, created by Ricard, was the Br.810, a two-seat carrier-based attack bomber. It was a response to the assignment under the AB2 program, issued in October 1939. The Br.810 glider was similar to its predecessors, but the consoles could be folded. Introduced landing shields and a hook.

It was designed prior to the outbreak of the Second World War to operate from the aircraft carriers of the French Navy, but only a single example was completed, with development ended by France's defeat by Germany in June 1940.

Nord 1500 Norclair(1947)

The Nord 1500 Noréclair was a prototype French twin-engined dive bomber and anti-submarine warfare aircraft built at the end of the Second World War. It would have carried both torpedoes, missiles, and bombs. The aircraft was built in response to a need for a dive bomber and anti-submarine aircraft that could be launched both from land and from an aircraft carrier. The first prototype flew on 29 August 1947. The tests revealed many issues that had to be resolved. Eventually the project was abandoned after being criticized heavily and discovering many problems.

Bréguet Br 960 Vultur (1951)

Bréguet Br 960 Vultur was a prototype two-seat carrier-based attack and anti-submarine aircraft (ASW) built for the French Navy (Marine Nationale) during the early 1950s. Meeting contradictory endurance and speed requirements, it was designed as a "mixed-power" aircraft with a turboprop engine in the front and a turbojet in the rear. Only two examples were built, but the second aircraft was rebuilt as the prototype of the Bréguet 1050 Alizé ASW aircraft after the Navy dropped the idea of a turboprop attack aircraft in the mid-1950s.

The thing about CVs is that, unless there is something *very* distinctive about the ships - Saratoga's 8inch main battery, Graf Zep's secondaries - it's all about the planes. So WG need to harness the lunacy of French naval aviation. Float planes! Twin Engines! Gull Wings! Push-pull turbojets! The French Aviation industry was as distinctive and eccentric as their car industry... so I want to see the equivalent of a 2CV or DS...

I enjoy playing Bearn - the skip bombers are great fun - and I'd like to see those on the main line as a primary method of attack.  There are some real-world planes like the LN40/LN401 - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loire-Nieuport_LN.401 - which would work for this. The LN40 was a dive bomber which was actually rubbish at being a dive bomber, but quite speedy for Tier VI (cruise speed around 60mph faster than a Stuka), so why not repurpose as a skip bomber?

Otherwise... big heavy torpedo planes, love those!  it would be nice to have some of this sort of thing (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loire-Nieuport_10) and perhaps end with the Alize, Vultur  - there's a lot of options in those designs. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bréguet_960_Vultur

since now branches are being introduced with the features of super ships (as Pan-Americans showed), I suggest the following: air groups are fast enough and have a standard margin of safety (on average-above average), but at the same time there are much fewer aircraft than others. Aircraft carriers will not have attack aircraft, torpedo bombers are equipped with slow torpedoes with low damage, and bombers - skip with high damage. Tactical squadrons will be from level 6 and will be presented in the form of heavy twin-engine aircraft, bombers. They stand out for their high survivability and large link size.

well, or the second proposal, the main air groups are represented by attack aircraft and skip bombers, the tactical link is represented by torpedo bombers. Missiles are similar to British ones, bombs have medium damage and penetration, and torpedoes have high damage and speed

Then will be the next:

Tech tree features:

  • The maximum speed is increased by 50 kts instead of 40 and 35;
  • High speed with average aircraft survivability;
  • The tactical squadron is distinguished by high speed, survivability and a large link, but the afterburner is not restored and they have no equipment;
  • In the presence of a standard air group of attack aircraft, skip bombers as well as a tactical air group of torpedo bombers;
  • Attack aircraft are similar to British ones, with low damage and missile penetration;
  • Bombers carry bombs similar to Soviet ones;
  • Torpedoes - have fairly good damage and high speed;

PA4 was an enlarged version of PA3. Within the limits of the Naval Treaties only 3 ships of this design could have been built. With a higher top speed, however, this ship could have better operated together with the cruiser and big destroyers of the French Navy.

Project of a light aircraft carrier of the French Navy.

I quite like the line. Clearly the French mastered naval aviation in the 50s but during the WoWs era they are still finding their feet, so there's a lot of experimentation going on.

I do find Bearn a very good jumping off point for a CV line, I think she's distinctive and useful (especially the skip bombers), so for the main line I would keep her skip bombers and patrol fighters, but replace the AP bombers with heavier torpedo planes. Compared to Bearn I think the VI, VIII and X should have good speed and good AA (if the idea is to end with a JB conversion then clearly this would have very good AA as well as the possibility of some secondary based-fun). However this converted BB form should have a smaller air group and slower plane regen than a purpose built CV.

Ships would be

IV - Commandante Teste

VI - Pégoud (named after Adolphe Pegoud, the first WW1 fighter ace and a notable figure in the development of French military aviation)

VIII - Joffre

X - Clemenceau (this feels better for a Richelieu conversion, as it was assigned to the Richelieu class but never built).

Planes would be....

IV - PL107 (Torpedo Bomber) / Latecoere 298 (Skip Bomber) / Dewoitine 376 (Fighter)

VI - Dewoitine 750  (Torpedo Bomber) / LN410 (Skip Bomber) / Dewoitine 520 (Fighter)

VIII - Grumman Avenger (Torpedo Bomber)  SNCAC CAO 600 (Skip Bomber) / Grumman F6F (Fighter)

X -  SNCAC 170 (Torpedo Bomber) / Breguet Vultur (Skip Bomber) / F4U Corsair (Fighter)

Torpedo bombers are reasonably fast and well protected but not especially manoeuvrable. Their torpedoes are mid-range for speed but do good damage.

Skip bombers are fast and easy to manoeuvre but have only moderate HP, and their bombs have limited armour penetration.

Patrol fighters do not spot, but they are long lasting, have high HP, and are capable of destroying an entire incoming flight.

Not quite so, because Republique is our completion project based on the battleships Gasconge by a large battleship after the war, like the battleship Jean Bart. Henri IV and Kleber, although they are projects from the Second World War, they were also completed in the post-war period, by the 50s (as indicated by air defense installations and secondary)

About AA: mmm, well, we can calculate, in principle, air defense of the 10th level.
No near aura
Medium Aura 305 (similar to République due to the same number of 57mm mounts), 3.8 km
Far aura - 384 (based on the damage of Patrie launchers since they are similar to them, and there are 4 more of them), range is 5.2 km

For comparison:

Hakuryū - no near aura, Medium -  242/3.5 km, far aura - 249/5.0 km

Midway - Near aura - 170/2.0 km, Medium aura - 283/3.5 km, far aura - 199/5.2 km

Manfred von Richthofen - no near aura, Medium -  199/4.0 km, far aura - 292/4.5 km

Admiral Nakhimov - no near aura, Medium -  200/4.0 km, far aura - 237/5.2 km

Audacious - no near aura, Medium -  263/3.5 km, far aura - 71/5.0 km

What is the project? PA 4 or smt else?

About Clemenceau, i dont thing so. The problem is that the PA 28 project was named Clemenceau in 1947, while the Jean Bart project is from the 1950s.

Aircraft, in fact, almoust all of you have chosen unsuccessfully because of the time period ans some of them was not naval aircraft, I will write like this, the name of the aircraft carrier and in brackets the year of attack aircraft, torpedo bombers and bombers:

IV - Hosho (1935/1936/1934)/Langley(1935/1927/1933)/Rhein(1934/1936/1931)/Komsomolets(1933/1935/1931)/Hermes(1934/1938/1936)
PL.107 and D.376 could have approached this level over the years, however, I reviewed one video when Bearn was first introduced (without features at that time).

image.thumb.png.bf56d0cc34963712fbf8f75582535500.png

The developers consider these aircraft as level 6 and not level 4.

Latecoere 298 - in general, a seaplane, although it took off from the Commandant Teste, however, if you offer carrier-based aircraft, then deck-based and not seaplanes should be considered. Its deck modification is 299, which was developed under Joffre in 1940, and for the 4th level it is extremely late

VI - Ryūjō (1940/1937/1940/, Ranger(1940/1937/1937)/Weser(1938/1935/1935)/Serov(1938/1934/1937)/Furious(1940/1943/1943)

On average, aircraft from the beginning of World War II are located at this level (with the exception of Furious). If you calculate on average, then the year here will be 1938-1940. LN.410 and PL.10 7 are located just in those years. But the Dewoitine 520 was never a naval attack aircraft, or a fighter. However, if you say that you could make it naval, you will be partly right, because the Dewoitine 790 is essentially its naval version, and was developed in 1939, but as in the case of the Dewoitine 750, it was developed for the aircraft carrier Joffre

VIII - Skokaku (1942/1944/1944)/Lexington(1943/1943/1943)/August von Parseval(1941/1939/1939)/Pobeda(1943/1943/1941)/Implecable(1943/1946/1946)

Here you upset me very much, like the developers, by pushing the Americans in again. I was wildly upset to see the Vindicator at Bearn, while they had quite big plans for naval aviation (and there were quite a few projects during this period, such as Bréguet Br.810, Latécoère Laté 299, S.N.C.A.O. CA O-60 0, Dewoitine D.7 50, Bréguet-Latécoère Laté-675, De woitine D.790. Also, if Bearn has Ranger bombers, then you decided to put Ranger fighters here. S.N.C.A.O. CAO-600 agrees, it was developed as times for Joffre.Due to the fact that France capitulated in 1940, it is naturally better to take aviation from these years.

Х - Hakuryū (1945/1944/1944)/Midway(1944/1944/1944)/Manfred von Richthofen(1943/1945/1945)/Admiral Nakhimov(1946/1942/1944)/Audacious(1946/1946/1946)

As you can see, the aviation of the end of the war / post-war period is located here. In principle, you put Vultur and NC 1070 quite well here (although I personally like Nord 1500 Norclair more externally, but this is my personal preference)
