This is not how probability works my friend.

1-(1-p)^n where p=probability and n=number of rolls/tries is what you use to calculate your chances to get a drop.

 

So for this example it would be 1-(1-0.16)^20 = 96,9% to get one ship from 20 crates. (Ignoring the pity mechanic of course)

Your calculations are completely off. Don't forget that after 15 containers you get a guaranteed drop. But, realistically you can expect 3.2 ship drops in 20 Mega gifts on average.

He literally mentioned that " (Ignoring the pity mechanic of course) " and I think you mix up average with probability. He did not say anything about how many ships you can expect, he said that ignoring the guarranted drop, you can expect in 96,9% of the cases when 20 containers opened to get at least 1 ship. For two ships you can make the same calculation. For 3 also. For 3,2 you can do that, I guess the figure will be around 50%. Which means there is a 50% chance you get 3,2 ships from 20 crates. Ignoring the guaranteed drop.

Wow this year was the worst drops i have  had sofar. 35 tier X , i bought 7 of the large container with the tickets ... 0 ships, 0 doublon, 0 prem day , only trash.

So. Used the 30% Coupon to get the most dubs. And got 40 of the largest and 20 of the medium. Was really wanting Benham. But I am not gonna complain at 13 ships.

Nope, you can get 1 ship in some extremely unfortunate cases, but also something like 6 drops as well. It averages out to 3.2. If you check unboxing of streamers or do it yourself you will see similar average drop rate (works better for large quantities).

Nice  drop , 13 ship, and 5k  doublon+ some coal. Make sure you try the Scharnhorst, that is one of my favourite on T7.

Unlike the rest of the year you actually can get a heck of a lot more value out of these containers (relatively speaking of course) than you invest.

 

So you buy 20 Megas, running up to about 61 euros. This means, plain and simple when compared to shop prices for ships, if you pull just ONE T10 or T9 ship out of those you already got better value for your money than if you bought such a ship directly, not even counting the chance on more ships as well as the relative value of the other content.

 

Of course, this is only valid if you basically don´t care WHICH ship(s) you get as long as you get any.

 

 

EDIT also wants to inform you that the Santa Container ships tend to come with a 10 point commander in tow.

Just finished this years Satan crates haul. With only 20 T10 it was only 4 mega.

 

I got the Perth in the last one. Was the lowest value premium ship ( non rare) remaining. But out of only 4 Mega’s can’t complain about receiving a ship in the first place. Only other remarkable was 500 D from one of the  3 free small Satan containers.

Will now focus on coal and steel. Will get Bourgogne ( coupon) and 2 high tier coal ships. Plus Renown 44 and Dido ( have Canarias) with the future campaign.

 

Its all free ( with some grinding) so..

Nice haul but….Lazo, Hill and Rio de Janeiro could have been preemptive sniped for coal.  Might have resulted in receiving other, not obtainable by ingame free currency premiums…
