How to become better in reading of the map?

I generally tend to go maximum size, and then 1 smaller. That also seems to be the most common for the people around me, but in general making the minimap bigger and enabling all the details such as ship names is always a benefit.

Depends - if you scrubs play on a Commodore 1701 monitor, having the minimap cover your whole screen is not helpful, I agree.

What's the rationale behind for not having last known positions and ship names set to "on" as default?

I read something about a laptop, as with any competitive game, equipment matters. At home I'm playing warships on a curved 32" 4K monitor, I tried playing it on my 15" laptop and I couldn't pull off half the stuff I usually do. A 32" curved 4K screen is probably overkill but I can't play on anything less than a 27" 1440P screen.

And then in the middle of game I question - where is half of my team on other flank?! I will try to implement all your's advices what you write here :)

just to clarify:

Having half your team on the other flank is actually a good thing. Because if you lemming and go all to one flank, you are likely to get slowed down by a defending force and you are giving up mayor parts of the map, allowing the enemy team to position much more freely, get the majority of caps and encircle you.

Make your minimap larger

Look at it often, both when you're winning and losing, try to understand why you're winning or losing,

Tnx, both works. Other will need time....

In short, never fixate on a target for more than a couple of seconds unless you can absolutely confirm NOBODY else can interfere.

Ok, can you please explain why? Tnx. Usually do exactly that - when notice "good" target, I don't give up until or he run or I sink or he sink...

You can live without being good at WoWS or playing it. Did you know that?

Ofc I know that and I am not write here of "being unicum or similar". I am just aware that I have lack of even some basic knowledge, also don't like to feel stupid and I wanna correct all that. And from somewhere I need start to learn...

unless in close quarter combat obviously

And to many times I end in closer combat (sometimes on purpose, but very often just get in the trouble and haven't even clue how to get out from the trouble - is there any way to correct that?)

installling matchmaking monitor

how this thing work? I will need one more monitor for that (I play on laptop, 15,6" and if I split my laptop monitor - one side for game, other for mm, then I will see nothing - literally).

The start of a battle is probably the most important time to read the map, look at what your team has on your flank relative to the enemy teams, in terms of numbers and threats.

That works in some case, but I can't force someone in bb to go on other flank which haven't any bbs, only cruisers and dd and on the other flank we had 3 bbs (I was in cruiser also so coudn't help).

try to build the habit first of looking at the minimap every 15 seconds, 10 seconds, 5 seconds.
Then once you have this habit of looking at it every 5 or so seconds, you can start working out what information is available to you on the minimap. Check to see which enemies are spotted, who is spotting you, who you can shoot, who can shoot/torpedo you.

Then you can start making conclusions. If I move there, then I will be able to shoot these enemies and do XYZ etc.

And then after you have that down you can start using all the experience you built to start deducing information. e.g. I'm spotted at the start of the game and no enemies are spotted yet. OK this means there is an enemy DD spotting me.

This works, thanks Sera :)

in simply taking a couple seconds of rest and just ask yourself "ok, what now" and thinking about it for a couple seconds.

Definitly I should try this. Maybe even don't sink in first 5-6 min of game...

Thank you all guys :) I will still try, from basic to complex things :Smile_honoring:

There is so much Mods as well that should be either On by default or at least an option under settings but still missing after 7 years.

It's not that you shouldn't finish off that target if possible. It's that you should not constantly stay zoomed in on it with your view, eyes glued to the enemy ship. At the very least check the minimap every few moments and use freeview to take a quick look around between salvoes (or while firing when on something with short reload). Keep aware of your surroundings is what was meant here.

@wildwind 84, i'm not quoting all of that and editing to reply so I'll say this and hopefully you will get the gist. You cannot decide what others do in their ships, always assume it will be the stupidest play possible, and you will generally be right. Your actions should be shaped by what is happening on the map, not by pinging some clown and pinging a square for him to go to. You are not an admiral and he is not mentally capable.

I am usually chat banned for calling senile halfbrains exactly what they are. WOWs players by an overwhelming majority are completely useless.

Look at the minimap - if there are a lot of red dots on one side and only 2 green dots, that side is going to fall and needs bolstering. Tada!

Anything else?
