Yes, a minute or so into the game, first you had to dodge the impossible wall of skill thrown your way. It was atroicous. Just like CVs today.

This. The only reason to get a T9 is ranked in that bracket and for that special purpose, I have a Musashi or a Yolo Emilio, TRB Yugumo and whatnot.

that's ok, I didn't have a regular tirpitz. Atago B mighta been smarter though :P. I guess I can buy a regular atago with a coupon if it comes to that.

Yes. Even subs can't reap BBs like Asashio.

 

Plus while she's a little bit toxic, she's not sub level toxic.

Asashio can deal with DDs due to superior spotting and "good enough" guns. It's not great at it, but it can manage, especially if you have a division shooting what you spot.

 

Asashio is not good at dealing with cruisers, ngl.

 

But Asashio is the rider on the pale horse when it comes to BBs, no other DD even comes close. You can farm every BB in the game, higher tier is just better than lower tier as they have more HP and XP to give you. It's not just that ASashio has 20 km torps. The point is that it has fast, low detection, 20 km torps that it can fire vast numbers of due to reload booster.

Her torps can also hit CVs, which is more common than you think since the range is 20 km.

 

I got Asashio B on Black Friday 2020, and she's a fun ship. To this day, almost 2 years later, she has my Tier 8 damage record:

It always is. I play Assashio close up, and when my torps miss I'm already doing something completely different. It always cracks me up when after a minute or so I hit something invisible in the back for free ^^

 

I fully agree with the pro Asashio sentiment.

Asashio's guns are no joke - to a good player Asashio is even a pretty competent against over half the DD's she can face even at higher tiers, and she can succesfully content caps early on with some backup due to her insane low detection range. She's a kiter like no other, and despite her slow firing guns, the alpha is pretty discouraging for ships chasing after her. I even had cruisers give up on me, and high tier DD's that didn't get the memo can choke on her.

 

Love it. I bought the B a couple of years ago. The only B ship I bought for gold. No regrets.

I take the  chance to ask an opinion to the most experienced players.

Currently I have around 17k dubs. I was thinking to buy Massa and Atago/Mainz (all B) but now I have the doubt if instead it will be better to take only Massa and then the current premium battlepass (if and when completed the chain)...

Any suggestion?

I suspect only you can answer this question, but:

• Have a look at the rewards, in detail, that the battlepass will give you; besides the T7 premium at the end, it's mainly resources (well, the useful stuff is) - will those resources do more for you than the extra two S&M premiums will?
• You don't have to decide now: see if you get any of the S&M ships from the containers you'll earn just by playing - the 'B' ships will be on sale for a while yet.

I get the urge to get stuff *now* (as a quick look at my 'new ships today' section on WOWS Numbers will illustrate), but a little patience might be sensible, at least for a few days until you've cleaned up all the free containers? Just check the closing date for the BF promos (I can't recall what it is).

 

Atago and Mainz are both very good though (I think I currently have three of each, along with spectacular impulse-control issues)...

 

(This assumes that recent changes to the game haven't significantly changed the value you'll get from premium ship purchases, or have changed it in favour of the proposed ships you're after; for example, I'm playing a lot more cruisers than previously, now I've dropped out of Randoms.)

Well Massa is the only one you need to buy now if you really want it, as Atago and Mainz are available in non black variants all year round. So I don't see any particular need to get those now. Battlepass is prolly worth it if you can get the 50 stages without too much grinding.

Presumably, a) they don't expect to sell that many, but it does boost the perceived value of any that fall out of containers, and b) there *will* be whales that'll pay that, no matter how ludicrous the price appears to rational folk...
