Ahum, in many ways it is just as arrogant to expect everyone to understand English - something which in my experience quite a few native English-speakers expect. Even though within Europe they are in a definite minority.

ok.

if it is arrogant to expect it would be a good idea to use the language that most people on EU server know....

well then lets all use our native language in ingame chat!

what a desaster!

no communication possible at all!

what do you wanna say with that statement??

you really suggest everyone to use its own language????

If someone write to me in the chat in Danish my reply will be in Danish. Don't expect anyone else to understand it since its not aimed at them. To me it looks like a big fuzz over an non issue.

Its the EU server, people have been typing in german, french, italian, spanish, polish, turkish, whatever other european language etc in game chat since the game started 7 years ago, apart from english.

You starting this whole thread is just to bash on people from CIS because they are from the "enemy" country. Russia bad. Russian bad. They no use english bad.

Like what the heck, this isn't the NA server where they mostly type in english. People here have already been using their native language in game chat for 7 years. Just goes to show how xenophobic you are.

I'm not Dutch, however I do recognize your name and avatar from WoT NA old days (years ago) !

Thats a lot of bull @Viridem if you look at the last 4 numbers in my ingame name you will see that i am close to be 60 years old and a lot around my age do speak, write and understand english.

I thought this was supposed to be some sort of punishment for Russia and WG distancing themselves.

You thought wrong. This is supposed to allow Ukrainians and member of other countries that gained independence when USSR fell not to play with Russians on Russian server that will become separated from "main fork" of WoWS (there are also payment issues, as Russian server will only be able to accept Russian payment processors). Also not every time you see cirillic alphabet in the chat actual language is Russian. Some countries are making move to drop cirillic and move to latin (eg. Kazakhstan).

so nobody of you has faced 1 or 2 player chatting whole time in kyrillik...?

nearly all player on WU server can speak english, but nearly noone fron CIS server can!

and short commands are NOT sufficient to communicate in a match

Not "nearly every match". It happens from time to time, as it did before.

Heh - that account still exists, but I've been mainly playing WOT on the EU server lately (purely because that's the one that currently has premium time)...

Ah! Suddenly everything becomes clear...!

(That's not the derivation I used to get to 'Verblonde': in my case, it's an oblique Blackadder reference, specifically the Red Baron episode.)

I will start writing in Japanese since today. I wonder if sbd will gave any troubles in communication - if yes, then ... ふざけるな :)

Myself and every single person I know that is between 40-50 in my family, friends and colleagues. I think you'd have to start pushing into at least 60s to find someone who really can't make a reasonable communication.

Such a reference is way over the level of the players of this game...

I'm fairly confident I'm not the only old git around here, although in this case one does need to be an old git who was watching Blackadder Goes Forth in the - what? - late eighties/early nineties...

I based it on my coworkers, which have very varied levels of education (from no education to PhD) and ages, the number I met is in the triple digit...

Any lower than a master degree, and very few know english enough to hold a conversation, let alone write it.

Then again, I'm in a rural area of one of the European country that speak english the less. I forgot to take that into account I suppose. The population I met is not representative of the average European...

Well i dont have a high education either i only have a ninth grade education and started in the military when i was 16 years old and have worked myself up through the rangs and at August 1 i retired after 43 years of service to my country as a captain but in my opinion it is all up each country how much they can get their students to be interested in learning another language. Take me i speak english, write and read english and i also do to some degree speak german and to some degree read german but writting in german i do not @Viridem. For me personally english has always come as my second language so by saying that people over +40 hardly dont speak or understand english is bull for me if you had said that in your sourroundings they hardly dont speak or understand english that would have made sence to others hope you get what i mean :Smile_Default:

Most of europeans learn the basis of english in school, but a lot of them neither need to interact with english speakers, nor need to use english in everyday life.

Oh dear gods, no!! Mind you, since my 'no :etc_swear: submarines' change of emphasis, I've been playing rather more of the things - they're a lot less tedious when playing them manly is a viable approach.

You're not - it is a bit oblique: you'll recall the Red Baron going on about responsibility for the deaths of some of his finest and blondest friends? This was around the time of some ancient computer game about the battle of Britain, where you could either fly RAF fighters or German bombers; anyway, I needed a name for my German save games and 'Very Blonde' (i.e. a typical friend of the Red Baron) wasn't allowed, so it got contracted to Verblonde; subsequently, my actual nickname (as such) is usually already taken when I'm picking in-game names, so Verblonde has kind of stuck, thirty-odd years later...
