Just to add, some of the hobby coders I knew in university were capable of making all sorts of very-much-against-the-rules gaming programs for a laugh (thankfully they were more interested in ruining peoples' Call of Duty/CSGO experience and not into WoWs). I wouldn't doubt the idea that a bunch of script-kiddies with nothing to do over the summer could cobble something together to do the railgun thing for them.
