Hi all,

If I read this correctly the "Wargaming Belgrade" (Serbia) will become new development studio for both WoWs and WoT...

Wargaming Opens New Studios for World of Tanks and World of Warships After Exit from Russia and Belarus

By Christina Gonzalez

Jun 14, 2022 2:30 PM

After the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, Wargaming announced in early April that the company would exit both Russia and Belarus and would sell its stake in games like World of Tanks and World of Warships in those countries to local companies. Now, Wargaming has announced the opening of two new studios, Wargaming Belgrade in Serbia and Wargaming Warsaw in Poland.

These two new studios join the company’s other six locations across Europe and a total of 17 locations worldwide. The Belgrade studio will have international and local talent and be focusing on the  World of Tanks and World of Warships franchises. This location will also be “an important relocation hub for Wargaming staff from multiple locations” and potentially develop new products.

The new studio in Warsaw will be initially focused on publishing, but there’s more to come there as the relocation and opening of these new studios continue the adjustment process.

In a press release announcing the two new studios, Wargaming CEO Victor Kislyi described the process. “Warsaw and Belgrade were logical choices for these new locations, both are fast developing technology sectors with enormous potential. We look forward to working closely with both cities’ IT communities to build best-in-class game development and publishing units,” he says.

Wargaming’s decision to leave Russia and Belarus behind after committing to help some of its employees flee war may have come as a surprise, especially as at the time, the company’s statement also confirmed an expected financial loss as a result of the move and foregoing business in those two countries.

With the new locations, it seems that they’re continuing to be a work in progress, but the World of Tanks and World of Warships franchises have a new hub to grow into.

Yep... since Serbia is not in EU most programmers and developers from Russia and Balarus can transfer there without problem...

Mhm Serbia and Russia had close relations for centuries, its a pretty decent way to solve all this actually, lesta can do the heavy lifting of developement and once or twice a month a transfer of data can be done to publish the needed updates, although they might just move the dev team over

No... they can't... I think that they (programmers and developers) will actually move to Serbia (i.e. “an important relocation hub for Wargaming staff from multiple locations”)...

Doesnt really matter which direction the transfer goes the dev team prob has less issues moving to Serbia then most other options inside EU and prob have good logistics options there, prob even goverment sponsored to a degree… One way or the other its a decent way to keep all servers in sync

Of course nothing will change.

They have to move due to sanctions on Russia, so they'll go nearest non-EU place there is.

Locals will merely provide office space, internet connection, electricity etc etc - all the "fantastic" new ideas are from a core RU team from St Petersburg,  now living and working in ____________ (insert any country/city you want).

Nothing will change.

So we can expect a complete fleet release of OP Serbian ships that dominated the seas from the 1800's to present day, striking fear in to the capitalist western and the Communist East to their cores.

Nah, what we will see is the same Russian faces in a new country. We will trade new lies for old.

Nah, everything stays the same. The Lesta crew from St Petersburg, Russia, is simply moving office to the nearest convenient location. Going to Belgrade with their families 'n all, running from the sanctions.

But something much more significant was announced yesterday - WG is shutting down WorldOfWarplanes in Russia. Closing the CIS server for good. No more Planes in Russia/Belarus etc.

If they close the Ships too for CIS, only that might be a sign that our (EU and US) complaints might be heard, if they remove RU oligarch ganker clans demands for haw-haw.

Warplanes was almost dead already. And AFAIK developed from Ukraine.

Nothing will change for WOWS. Unless politics makes running the servers in RU impossible.

So WoWP just about meets the minimum requirement for an online, multiplayer game.

No worries though, they'll probably just switch to CVs in WoWS.
