you can earn 2.500 tokens in the campaign, so you need to buy another 21.500 tokens for 17.500 doubloons to get the possibilty to buy the Black for 19.300 doubloons, in total 36.800 doubloons (without using the coupons)...

Im a returning player and got exited by the oportunity to get Black. But this is just too much to pay. You are actually paying 2x the price of a T9 DD. Yes, you get a few other things too, but its just cosmetics.

You mean Fletcher is still gold standard of a do-it-all destroyer, and this one rocks unique combo of smoke and radar? Though Black torps are bit of a meme, but they should be very much functional with their low detection and very fast reload.

Aren't the PA ones better these days with TRB and all? They're all US designs.

If you're looking for spotter/torpedoboat, perhaps. Certainly Aliexpress smoke is much more flexible, though I'm not fond of losing ability of torping DDs and/or convincing them out of smoke. And if US DD gunpower is becoming outdated, it applies even more to PA ships as they have universally slower reload than US counterparts.

Havn't really used Fletcher much since they changed the torpedo angles (by accident, not even sure if they changed it back or made it a feature), but that severely reduced its steeper torp angles for full drop, making it far more prone to taking damage and harder to use in a DD duel. Not sure if I would consider it the gold standard at this point.

 

I think Benham takes that now.

While I personally think that fletcher hasn't been the gold standard for years, I don't think you should count one of the most overpowered (and rare) DDs in the game as any sort of a standard.

Around 19k doubs for Black permacamo.... That's crazy amount, plus requires to buy 12 skills commanders, which most of dont need.

 

Going to get those 2 Distant Voyages containers for free and that's it. Last one dropped Le Fantasque permacamo for me

Ugh :(. The USS black is cancerous, I wish it wasn't in the game - and now there will be many, many more of them. DDs with radar are bad enough, but DDs with radar and smoke are just stupid.

 

(I have the ragnar and will ttly get this cancerous POS as well; still don't feel it's good for the game at all)

Obviously nobody will pay that for the camo. It's just an excuse for WG so that they can sell a tier 9 pixel ship for € 114.

I agree with you in general, but the radar duration was nerfed and needs a good teamwork to kill the DD in that time. In  most cases you will take half HP of DD and will be vulnerable in smoke by superior torps of opposite DD

For me the biggest problem with the DWTs is that they are useless against other DDs - so you''re slightly compromised in DD on DD action.

A Skane or so has a field day with torps against any smoking DD, but DWT DD can also be overwhelmed if you can outangle them in the gunfight while they're busy with dodging torps you don't have to worry about.

How do you rate Black compared to other T9 DDs? Is it a great buy? I have a great time playing with Groningen. Would you rate Black as worst than Groningen or same?

Average (at best) player perspective:

• Black is certainly worth having, although - unless you find yourself in a 'more money than God' situation - not worth paying significantly over the odds for in real money.
• The radar is still a very effective tool (despite aforementioned duration nerf), provided you know how to maximise its usefulness; use a coal mod if at all possible.
• The torps take some getting used to; they're spectacularly slow, but quite hard to spot, and they make quite a mess if/when they connect. They're useful tools for making areas of the map undesirable to be in. They also reload reasonably quickly; by the time your last launch reaches maximum range, you're about ready to launch again!
• In other respects, she's essentially a Feltcher - one of the better T9 DDs.
• So, better or worse than Groningen/Friesland? IMO, it depends a bit on your skill-set in each, but I find I do a lot better in Black - mainly due to the radar, and having torps (albeit weird ones). Were I to pick one of the two, it would be Black, without hesitation.

It was great ship years ago, when released... I have her years, but she is doomed by many better DDs now... Radar is very short and torps are funny :). Common Fletcher is better tahnks to usable torps. Nice queen od my port.
