Personally, I feel that Ranked (Bronze, anyway) is vastly superior to Randoms at the moment - most importantly, due to the lack of submarines. CVs aren't generally very common (at least when I've been playing) too, which is usually a bonus as well.

Wait until WG's matchmaker decides that you're going to lose 10 in a row. That's really fun and there is nothing you can do about it.

I usually have avoided ranked (too much whinging for my liking when compared to randoms ) however as they are at least for now submarine free I have done some ranked but I intend to stay in bronze.

It’s the lesser of the two evils.

Whilst I don't generally subscribe to the notion that WG's MM is some deranged AI that occasionally decides it's out to get you, that's basically what happens with Randoms anyway.

On a related note, Ranked is probably better for good players (so, not me, alas) when MM decides it hates them - they have to carry fewer potatoes than in Randoms...

The problem with ranked is it only takes about two of your fellow teammates to take you down with them. You really need almost everyone on board or you lose.

Yes, it is really good for grinding Alaska skills! :cap_like:

Unfortunately ranked does not allow two man divs. That's when it'd become actually fun.

The MM does not play the ships.

Ranked is great when you are surfing a victory streak and cashing in that nice Steel. But then you hit the wall and see those stars starting to detract. Not a great player here by any means but sometimes its like you want to start to cry. AFK team mates, Kamikaze team mates dashing solo with their Cruiser towards the enemy, etc.

You again... Does WG pay you to write this kind of rubbish?

The streaks are just too specific to be random (winning 10 in a row, losing 10 in a row; that's just not possible by the laws of probability). I do agree however that Randoms are no better.

A few months ago I followed the WR and PR of each player with a little soft, because I was feeling some days I would win 80% of games, even if I play like a giant potato, and other days I could do whatever I wanted, when half of your team is dead within 3 minutes....

I found out that there seems to be a strange balance mechanism and  I was pushed back from one extrem to the other extrem.

Teammates stats confirmed that, for example when you are in the losing steak, you are against unicum division and unicum CV, while your team is 40% WR and your DD yolo, while your CV is farming damage on BBs.

2 days later, like to counter this, you end up in the team where the unicum division is...even if you play badly, you will win most of your games.

Happened to me recently with Riga, I had a very difficult start....but 65% WR. I started to play it just when WG decided I needed to be in good teams.

I was not very efficient, PR was really really low...but I was in the good teams.

I really really believe the MM is totally broken in this game...and absolutely not random....At least when you play solo in randoms.

That’a how I play it now. I pop in. Play a random and a ranked or two. Exit. Stay sane. Repeat a couple of hours later maybe or the next day.
will i ever reach gold? Not in a million years!

Do I care? Not in a million years!

I paddle about in bronze. Maybe I rank out, maybe I wont. I win cammos and a bit of steel. Bronze, maybe silver. 🤷🏻‍♂️😊

No subs. I play cossack, z46 and Ägir mainly. Mostly cossack in these last sprints. 80% wr. 100 with cossack. (I think!🤔)

But as I said, will probably not rank out bronze before the next sprint starts.

Couldn’t care less!

Happier camper! (NOT in a match of course!!😁😬😌😇)

Wait until you decide it's a conspiracy against you, rather than that you should just get a DD and win regardless of what the mod says about your chances.

I think this is the key to having a good time with Ranked (much of WOWS, come to that?) - if you take the mode too seriously, or rather take ranking out too seriously, you're going to give yourself an ulcer.

Play as long as is fun, take any rewards you may get, and get the hell out *before* you have a stress-induced aneurysm...

From what little I know of the laws of probability, I'd say that winning or losing 10 in a row in this game is solidly within the realm of probability (i.e. not indicative of any tampering or ill will on behalf of the matchmaker). The fact that losing 10 in a row - or worse, losing with precisely enough regularity to not move up through the ranks - feels like a personal and very deliberate insult on behalf of the matchmaker, is something that I believe most of us can readily attest to. Alas, far from being the result of sinister machinations it is merely due to a common psychological effect related to confirmation bias. We remember painful losses far more vividly than any fortunate winning streaks, and then the next losing streak comes along to reinforce this effect, and so on and so forth. :fish_book:

At least, this is what I choose to believe. But I admit that i find the alternative to be far more intriguing. Because... if Wargaming had actually invested the kind of time, effort and above all money that would be required to develop a matchmaker AI, and if this AI had then managed to become sufficiently self-aware to be capable of exercising sadism and forethought in relation to us players... then I'd be impressed. And more than a little flattered.

I think ranked is just being used be people to blitz grind their way through Tiers VIII and IX tech tree ships.

People just do not try on the teams and yolo as much as possible. I would say they pop in, die, rinse and repeat.

Did you calculate it? Because I did and the probability is well below 1 percent (for 10 in a row it is even less than 0.1 percent). So yeah... that is more than 0 but that's about it...

It's not conspiracy, it's math. And if you watch the Thursday's stream regularly you know that you shouldn't believe a word these mods say. Also: I am playing DDs (and much better than you).

That's exactly what I experienced ever since I started playing this game (which is quite some time back).

I did not calculate it. I don't have acess to anything coming close to the amount of statistical material in the form of battle results and other relevant information, that would be needed to even begin trying to calculate this properly. I only have some pretty vivid recollections of a large enough number of personal losing streaks to tell me that long losing streaks are nothing out of the ordinary. :Smile_Default:

But if you say that you have access to enough information to do these calculations, and that your results point to some form of matchmaker algorithm that can kick in and decide that "you're going to lose 10 in a row", then I'm honestly more than a bit amazed. And also, to be frank, a bit sceptical. Why would Wargaming have any interest in devoting resources into setting such a thing in place to begin with?
