To those who run TXAA in combination with MSAA and FXAA: don't do it!

TXAA is a budget combination of MSAA plus FXAA. Means you put more stress on your GPU without actually improving the image. MSAA is a real Anti-aliasing while FXAA is a post-processed Anti-Aliasing - actually it just blurs the image without improving anything after the image was rendered. Edges appear less jagged because they are blurred. If you run MSAA you actually don't need FXAA and certainly not TXAA because MSAA is kinda the big brother of TXAA. TXAA was invented for low-end GPUs that are too weak to run MSAA or SSAA.

So... are these settings good, bad, or ugly?....

And why has WG allowed all 3 of those to be enabled at same time in WoWs settings is beyond me... I have been asking this since the introduction... :Smile_facepalm:

I have updated my first post and added a recommendation. To enable AMD FSR makes no sense if you don't scale the image, which you don't according to your Monitor and Resolution settings.

Why do sound settings/sound preset change when you change the GFX preset to low or max? Why do they think we want Super ships, CVS and Subs in Randoms? Why do we play this game still on a 20 year old engine? Maybe it's laziness, maybe it's incompetence, maybe they don't care, maybe it's an oversight. Only God and WG knows why.

Ok I tried few things out I guess this is the result...

If I put the 8 pass it yields 10 fps less without much if any visible change...

Pretty much the same settings as the high class machines here:

image.thumb.png.fe829d6db22e355989704ce92723643f.png

running windowed 3440x1440 so I can use the right hand side of the screen (5120x1440 @240Hz) for browser and discord etc.  Depending on the map, it runs between 122 - 160 fps

SPECS:

ASUS Prime X399-A MB | AMD Ryzen™ Threadripper™ 2950X Processor | 64GB Corsair VENGEANCE RGB DDR4 3000MHz | Palit GeForce RTX™ 2080Ti GamingPro | Samsung 970 PRo Plus NVMe M.2 1Tb | COOLERMASTER MC500M Case | 49" Samsung Odyssey G95T Curved DQHD, 240Hz, QLED Monitor 5120x1440|

Thank you for an interesting post :Smile_honoring:

FSR is useless for you. Also, wtf is that resolution? Never seen 1920x1040p :cap_wander:

Nor sure... :Smile_unsure:... the monitor native resolution is 1920x1080... maybe running the game in a window and not full screen somehow takes off those 40 pixels....

Thanks! :Smile_honoring:

BTW, I again see all 3 Anti-Aliasing options enabled at same time... you should not do that... :Smile_hiding:

If OP is running Windows 11 - I am pretty sure the taskbar at the bottom messes with max borderless resolution.

Oh yeah, I though you were running borderless, not windowed. That could be it then

BTW, I tried both the MSAA/FXAA and the TXAA options in the same battle. The only visible change I noticed was that the MSAA/FXAA seemed to take a few FPS off at times. Visually, I did not see one or the other as being any better.
