Most certainly this weekend for the Doolittle Raid Anniversary.

Because WG has also announced a Doolittle Raid Camo for the update that is coming out this Thursday:

Or maybe even this week (at Friday) as anniversary is at 18.04. if I am correct...but then again it corresponds with Easter in big part of the world so maybe it will be relay  next week and this week it will be some Easter crate thingy...great news in either case :)

This Friday is when it would be released for the weekend, yes. That's what I meant.

EDIT:  Friday for doubloons confirmed.

It's entirely irrational, but I'm actually quite stoked about this; despite the fact I almost never play CVs against real people, the ship's history (and the fact she has actual Mitchells parked on the deck) makes this ship far more interesting than the fictitious stuff we more usually see...

I agree, the history is a powerful draw - but I have the enterprise…

Me too, but *Mitchells*!

(I need to get out more)

I've had a soft spot for Mitchells since I got given a kit for one when I was a kid...

As a complete aside, the local aircraft museum has a rather splendid flying one (apparently with a rather laudable approach to 'moar dakka'):

I mean the problem for me is that US CVs are fairly similar…

It’s basically a scaled down USS US…. I have literally only bought one ship, so I have to be a bit picky about what I buy… I have 10k dubs burning a hole in my pocket from the last twitch drop, but I’m certain the hornet will be very expensive, and the Kaga and chkalov both have good reviews…

Very temping though…

I have all the T8 CVs and I would recommend Chkalov, probably even over the removed Enterprise since the rocket nerf.

You're absolutely right: there isn't a *rational* reason for me to want Hornet; for a start, I'll almost certainly never play it in 'proper' game modes.

Depending on how unusual my reaction is, it might provide a salutary lesson for WG though: a proper historical ship that I'll never even play properly, and I'm interested - quite a contrast with my reaction to all manner of made up stuff, which I might occasionally play properly, and can be summarised as 'meh'...

Same, real historical ships that actually existed and have a history are way more attractive to play.

They can shove their super ships!!

It’s so strong.

Some say that Kaga is stronger but IMO Chkalov is far superior against cruisers and especcially destroyers. The dive bombers are excellent against most DDs as their angling does  nothing.

I have both, would say yes Chkalov is strong but less influential.

Mainly this is because I like to use torpedoes to "steer" enemy ships (...broadside onto my mates).

...note that the damage that Chkalov puts out is quite good - but the options for co-operation are quite limited (IMO).

For example you cannot keep a DD spotted AND drop him with torps so he needs to go straight (or a certain direction).
BUT I quite like Kaga... which probably skews the numbers, as I like to use torpedoes - and with Kaga, you NEVER have to use anything else.

Because you'll NEVER run out of torpedo planes with that plane-factory... but you need to be GOOD with torps,

as they only give an advantage if you manage to hit ALL FOUR that Kaga has regularly.

This mostly concurs with my experience as a target: non-Russian CVs present a much greater spotting threat, because they don't have the 'one and done' attack that the Russians do.

Always amazed by how many battleships turn full broadside and a get blapped by my team to avoid my skip bombs....

Good for the win, bad for the damage numbers

If anyone is interested, this is Daily Bounce on the subject: https://thedailybounce.net/world-of-warships/world-of-warships-final-review-u-s-tier-viii-premium-aicraft-carrier-hornet/

"The truth is that… I can’t really call her bad but at the same time, I can’t really recommend her. Of course, I’m sure that people will get her on day one because of how important she was historically but for pure gameplay… yeah, she is far from what her big sister can do."

So, apparently not a monster; that's no bad thing if we must have CVs in the game...?

Thanks that’s interesting.

To be fair though I don’t think most people will buy this to be a damage farmer to sweep all before them , there are better choices for that, sometimes it’s enough to stare at the great modelling of an historic ship (you have paid around €40 odd for), the one department in WOWS that consistently delivers.

Will be a fun ship when you need a break from the serious stuff I would think.
