TomBombardil Beta Tester 176 posts 18,711 battles Report post #1 Posted June 15, 2015 Hey All i was wondering what the Acquisition range of all the different planes are. and the vision obstacles? eg. smoke, island (heights), planes spotting planes? Since (as of patch 0.3.1.4) it is more and more important to hide your direction of approach till the last minute. since broadside a player who pays attention (in or out of a group) takes longer and longer. and why does my "spotted" captains skill (only lev3 skill that works for cv) not work for my planes? And even then the Dtships is showing from parent ship not selected plane squad. how can I find out how far they’re away from the other ships? I tried estimating distance of the raster lines, but it seems they are not the same over all the different maps?! THX

I think it does answer which planes are hindered by obstacles the most ( think scouts can look over islands and such, but bombers can't ).

(i think i labeld the topic wrong) and what influnces this: type of plane? type of ship that is spotting them? surface or Air based spotting? Obsticals? can a DD look up through the smoke but a plane can't See the DD? (AA off)
mtm78 Alpha Tester 19,378 posts 6,105 battles Report post #5 Posted June 15, 2015 Well planes can spot my destroyer before I can spot them, I often get the situational awareness going off without being able to see the plane which spotted me. This is usually fighters at the start of a match, I don't think I ever seen it happen with dive bombers which should have the second longest detection range? Sharana Alpha Tester 2,271 posts 1,040 battles Report post #6 Posted June 15, 2015 Well all CV planes are spotting the same way, I tested that (0.1.3.1). I parked DD and tried to spot it with fighters, DBs and TBs. All 3 planes spotted it on exactly the same mark, so even if there is difference that meters and because of the game scaling you can't notice it. CV planes are spotted from 8km (both air and surface) and you can't lower it. 8km is ~25sec fly time to the ship however, so it's not so far away. I suggested such 6th sense for the planes too back in the alpha (as captain's perk), but I doubt they will make it and I rarely would see a use from it to be honest. Scounts act as proximity spot only on 4km and see behind islands (only not in smoke), but from 4 to 11 km they need clear line of sight. Carrier planes don't have such clear line of sight check, so they actually should spot better, as they fly higher and see better even behind islands. The scout's advantage is in the fact that it's detected from 4km, while it can see up to 11km.
