PA cruisers have Poor armour, massive citadels, low health, DD calibre guns, teeny-tiny Smolensk style smoke screen. They make Neptune look tanky.

Issue 1: Smolensk was released, quite changing the standards for "normal"

Issue 2: nowhere do the british light cruisers mention that HE would be too strong, instead they are advertised as having 'only AP, be it special strong AP' (freely).

Issue 3: PAs have short duration smoke screens, and i think worse concealment, in smoke concealment etc, though not sure

Issue 4: while existing lines only need to "keep up" in the meta, newly introduced lines need to squish in- meaning they generally need to be a tad on the strong side or especially interesting to make them viable.

Plenty to say, i think theyll be fine, not very strong but fun enough to make interesting

Cruisers aren't really my thing, but - besides the points that @invicta2012 makes - don't the RN CLs get hydro, which the PA ones lack (or at least, I think the ones I've unlocked so far do)?

RN CLs do get hydro, plus the option for radar instead of smoke.

They don't have hydro, as far as I can see, or radar. Or the insane acceleration of RN Cruisers, which makes exiting a smoke screen under fire vaguely possible. I think anyone who expects to sit in smoke and dakka things is going to be disappointed.

It starts short, but by the time you get to the Tier IX you can get out to 16.2km, which is Smolensk range. Only 12 guns rather than 16 but there could still be quite a lot of HE spam to deal with.

What changed ? The game has already so much HE spam that the P-A cruisers will be a spit in the ocean. And with how difficult are they to play you won't see them often. Austin level rarity ...

That costs you firepower. Neptune goes to 16.5km without sacrificing firepower or 19.1km if you do. And Neptune has a higher DPM with bigger guns.

I completely agree, the RN Cruisers have some significant advantages.  But 16km is a decent range for some HE spam, if the player can find decent cover. And BB drivers will wonder about pushing in with those nasty Deepwater torps likely to be on their way. The PA CL line looks technical and not for casual players... and that's OK, surely?

The mind of WG....?

 

Which has happen over and over and over again.... so is anyone shocked? If there a buck and a half to squeeze out of a new class/ship/Mechanic that will ruin the game some more they will implement it .... over and over again. .... and player base will take it .... over and over again.

 

Thats the sad part, and even sadder part is many pay for the privilege. Seen how many Sejong's were in Battle first day of release? And that a grindable ship that will be free for everyone in a few weeks?! So if player base throw money at WG for doing this to their game, why should they stop? Subs were NEVER making it into WOW according to WG back in the day and they are coming back, for sure! And then we will all enjoy WG trying to balance that class as long as they tried to balance CVs which still is such a CLustefaaak.

Release Spähkreuzer that counter light cruiser but nobody play light cruiser so ???

Release Italian battleship that sucks so you have to play it up boarding plank ranges so nobody plays it because it suck so having more push in meta accomplished (?)

Release dutch cruiser that counter islandcamping and pushing with no armor battleship but only petro is islandcamping and nobody is pushing so ???

Release soviet carrier with slowplanes that smash broadsides with rocket/bomb or battleship bow with torps to punish pushing which nobody is still doing so ?

Release KM battlecruiser that has to push to do anything so everybody can focus the one ship that ventures too close without kurfurst/kremlin HP or armor so that meta has more pushing (lol ok)

Release pan-a cruiser to punish the possible pushing that might be happening by a few suicidal KMBC that didn't get the memo yet (???????)

 

How about release something that hard counters CV, sniper battleships, torpedo sniper DD and/or nextmap kiting premium ammo spam CA? Without being just a better CV, sniper battleship, torpedo DD or nextmap HE CA?

This is ironic, as the dutch cruisers are IMO the biggest island campers in the game right now.

PA cruisers have AP, but it's quite worthless. They have issues penetrating light cruisers with it.

Yeah, a bit put off by that. The T6 has even less range than Leander. And no tools for finding things. Not very attractive. It has FXP SINK written all over it.

Well, the British CLs still have better DPM, stealth Radar (thats like the Big +), superheal and "normal" Torps (so you can hit DDs in smoke for all what its worth) that can be singlelaunched. This is a potent package.

So I would not say they are powercreeped by the new line. In fact, at T10 I fear a Radar Mino, not a smoke mino. The smokeplay with Minotaur is all but a onetrickpony, with the amount of Radar nowadays.

 

And to answer your question: Lack of Radar/Spotting was a big thing why smoke+HE on Crusers was considered OP 2016, the effective range of the British CLs is maybe up to 12km, well there was no 12KM Radar+Railguns at the time, the likes of Petro/Moskwa/Stalingrad were introduced later.

Regardless of how strong the line will be, it seems to combine everything players have been complaining about. HE spammers, smoke farmers, torpedo boats...

 

Considering all the other questionable ideas we have seen so far, WG either has a really good connection to the 'silent majority' (LOL) or there's some higher up who pushes these ideas while no one dares to tell him how trash they are. In that case WG really needs to find a way to move him away from the command chair before it's going to blow up in their face.

If the RN Cruisers are better than the PA then I won't be stressing myself out to get any!  The whole of the RN line was a waste of time as they were terribly hamstrung because of the Russian influence in the game nothing else,  only kept two, Fiji and Minotaur for missions. Never even bothered with the RN BB's cos I wouldn't give them the pleasure and I was right.  Even the one-trick pony Mino has had its day can out ranged and lite-up by 4 or 5 enemy cruisers per game.
