Looking for a premium light cruiser

Hi guys, first things first, I'm credit starved most of the time in this game, what's the benefit of premium ships credits wise?

Second off, I like DD and CL playstyle best, what would be a good ship with fast firing guns and high maneuverability?
US preferably, I'm interested in the Atlanta, not sure what it's worth.

If this helps, I'm mostly a light/medium tank player in WoT.

Cheers.

I would stay away from Atlanta these days, she has just been powercrept really hard and uptiers very poorly.

To fix credit starvation, T9 premiums are the most profitable ships.

Also, Atlanta is an awesome ship in Narai. No clue how she performs in PvP though.

If you like fast firing gunboats, save your freeXP for Groningen and your coal for Marceau.

If you don't mind lower tiers, there's quite a few fun boats available for coal in the armory. Although perhaps not the best long-term investment, they're relatively cheap.

T9 premiums earn the most credits. But they are quite expensive and there no really good light cruisers. Groningen is probably the closest to the playstyle you like. T8 is quite close in that regard and best CLs there are Bayard and Mainz.

Weimar or München for Narai. Mainz if you looking for T8. Maybe the Tulsa or the Salem for coal.

Tier and intended use of the ship ?

Money making and loads of fun!

No matter how hard I try, I find myself snoring at the keyboard when playing the Congress that I just bought.

"Light cruisers in most cases fall under target practice. "

I get your point but for now I can't stand the Battle mode, the run-away style of play put me off that mode so I'll stick to PvE for now, we'll see in the long run.

Aptly named then.

Funny thing about the Makarov BTW. Originally I really wanted the ship because it felt like an interesting upgrade over the Nürnberg. PLUS, both ships (yes I know it's the same ship) were historically real existing ships. Now though... not sure, maybe because I've seen how badly I perform in cruisers I mostly play DD's and BB's unlike in the early years where most of my cruisers battles come from.

that's unfortunately mutually exclusive. best money making tier is T9 and there are no premium CLs there. myself I'd take the Mainz or Weimar. I don't think the US ones are any good.

Atlanta is a lot of fun, but it is also hard work to extract that fun.

To get a sense of comparative profitability, have a look at this:

1652878142_PremiumIncome.thumb.jpg.6fc0765582ce3df2dba67bd6b7f7d00d.jpg

If you aren't already familiar, it's worth reading the 'economy' section of the Wiki: https://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Economy

The crucial point is that the key driver of income is *relative* damage, rather than absolute damage i.e. you're interested in the percentage of an opponent's hp that you remove, not the absolute number of hp (at least as far as silver earnings are concerned). So, 1,000 hp of damage done to a DD will be rewarded more than doing exactly the same damage to something tubby like a BB.

So, in terms of credit income, perhaps think along the following lines:

  • First, are you running premium account? If not, that's probably the single most effective thing you can spend money on in the game (in terms of earnings).
  • After that, for maximum silver income, you want something that you can reliably do lots of relative damage with, and - possibly - inform your pick based on the comparative profitability graphic above.
  • You also want something that is fun to play; if you buy a premium for silver grinding, you want something you can thrash the nuts off, and not get bored with.
  • Importantly, don't forget that you can get a bunch of ludicrously profitable (and fun) ships for free via things like Coal (and Steel/RP if you have access to them), plus occasional missions.
  • If you haven't used them yet, don't forget about the coupons in the Armory [sic]; they lop a quarter off the doubloon/coal/steel price of one ship; they get renewed every six months (I think).

Atlanta fun ship for PvE, both in co-op and Narai. Can recommend :)

I hear Weimar is good for PvE too. München might also be an option.

Specifically a light cruiser?

De Grasse (t6) is IMO a very good choice, go fast shoot stuff with HE.

Boise and Perth are also very good choices but struggle a bit with their gun range. Perth gets crawling smoke which keeps you a bit safer and a spotter to help with range.  Boise hits hard and has a very nice heal.

Murmansk and Marblehead (and Omaha) are effectively the same thing at tier 5 and very prone to explodey death.

If you're feeling confident, Mainz is a very good light cruiser at t8.  Or Munchen at tier 7 (better than Weimar IMO).

As an alternative, I'd also suggest Atago, not a light cruiser but is a solid all round premium ship choice.

+1 to this. For a start, the engine boost is extremely helpful - in Coop (particularly), speed is essential for maximising returns per battle.

I'm another convert from WOT; I've found (for me, anyway) that the sorts of ships I like in WOWS tend not to bear much resemblance to the AFVs I get on with in WOT. For example, I tend to play a lot of heavies in WOT, yet find BBs really rather tedious in boats; my 'main' in WOWS (against real people anyway) is DDs by quite a large margin.

BTW as a general point that may or may not be relevant: newer premiums can (in theory - only one has so far, that I can think of) be directly nerfed, whereas older ones can't. In practical terms, it doesn't make much difference, but it's perhaps worth being aware of.

Sad Atlanta noises :Smile_sad:

I mean she is a fun ship on paper, but when all you do is get shatters, while having some of the worst ballistics and poor range along with it, it's not a strong boat.
I have her myself and would really like to play her more, but atm I dont see the point unfortunately.

I wonder if I'm not making a mistake and shouldn't go DD instead.

*scratches head*

I like speed and punch and don't care about survivability, speed and tactics is the only armor I need. If I get reckt, learn from the mistake, rince, repeat :)

I can't see your stats, so can't offer informed advice; I'm also spectacularly biased in favour of DDs. With that said:

  • 'DD-hunter' DDs can be ludicrously profitable, if you know what you're doing e.g. Cossack is excellent, as are Lo Yang and Kidd. Orkan is worthwhile too, but you really need your 'smokeless DD' kung fu to be properly developed.
  • To rack up the earnings, you do need to get good at hunting and killing opposing DDs; this can be lots of fun, but is also high risk.
  • Not all DDs are good at hunting their own kind e.g. Asashio is a monster against BBs, but pretty hopeless against smaller targets; she can be a great earner, but you need to consistently get Dev Strikes against BBs for this to be the case.
  • Furthermore, there are - broadly speaking - two major types of DDs: sneaky bar-stewards, and 'stealth is for wimps'; they both play very differently, and it's worth playing silver analogues to work out where you prefer to play, on the spectrum between the extremes, before you spend any money.

Quite a few gunboat DDs available for coal in the armory. No need to spend a penny.

F it's credits you want I'd suggest going premium account and play ships like Fiji and other tech tree ships that align with you well. It's a more sensible option if you are not specifically looking for a captain trainer. You just missed a 50% off offer that is on display around new years.
